yeah its a nasty cold rainy good way to catch hypothermia day out. I went to split firewood, and gave up quick.

I am too stupid to give up. Got everything loaded and decided not to strap it down, I backed up a bit and I could see that I needed to strap them down, it was too icy and they were sliding already. I got out, pushed the stacks back, went inside to get some ratchet straps, came back out to this:



Luckily it was only one stack. Needless to say they are all getting straps for the rest of the 60’ trip. Dang ice, I should have cleaned off the trailer deck last night, it was warm enough that to wood deck would have been exposed instead of a slushy ice layer.

Yes, they can be adjusted every four inches.

I am back at the Hill now, got myself out of my wet clothes. I am going to do a couple little things up here, but I am about done for the day. Everything is back to normal at the SG.

That's going to be some nice racking when it's setup. I hope it doesn't get too snowy there. We got about 3 inches and the temp dropped out the bottom. 10F tonight.

I am official calling it a day, I got most of my temporary shelf loaded with supplies that have been scattered everywhere.

I just needed to do something, hopefully I will have some of the Lista storage wall up tomorrow, that will be a huge milestone. I am scaling things back though, I need a bunch of the uprights for over at the SG to make my new stockroom project work.

Thanks, I actually spent another couple hours up there cleaning things, I wanted to leave, but I just kept going. I have help tomorrow and I wanted things to be a bit cleaner than they had been. I think another two hours and the shop will be good to go.

I should be doing some inside work the next couple days, it is about 20 out this morning, but tomorrow looks like it will be more like 10, I would prefer not to be too cold (or too hot). I would like to swap out the bad LED lights at the Hill, then I can get that stupid scissor lift out of the shop and into the quonset hut. That would make a serious improvement in that bay. The Lista stuff is pretty much top priority, but you know how that goes. I also want to fix the little dump trailer, probably get that done tomorrow.

Slow start, I am wiped out from the last four days, my back is already telling me that I am stupid. I should still be able to get some things done as long as my help shows up and if not, I will continue to put tools and supplies away. I can see a lot of floor so far, that must mean I am doing something right.

It looks like the best approach for my storage wall setup at the Hill is to still modify 2 more uprights, giving me two bays of drawers/shelves. I can see no matter what I will need to order more uprights once I get the new setup started over at the Salvage Garage. I am sure there will be other drawers and shelves I will want as well, so it won't be like I am just buying a couple uprights. I will probably have to figure that stuff out in the next few weeks so I can get them ordered, I am sure it will take a couple months for them to be fabricated, I think the stockroom at the SG will be a spring project, so timing should be good.

Just think how much easier it would be on that project to just move a bunch of shop items outside, really clean good and not have to shuffle / jenga inside.

I know i keep thinking about doing that, but the logistics of the inside only / outside only forklifts stops me.

Things are still moving, but my back isn’t happy. I almost have everything cleaned up enough to get the lights swapped out, then the scissor lift will get put in the Quonset hut, that will be awesome. My Buddy is working on the trailer tongue now, once that is done, we can pull the dump trailer outside too.

Of course the dump trailer is going to take longer than expected, but I want to get it done. The new hitch hits the frame before it lines up with the sides, had to cut the rails back and rework the bracing, also have to move the chains and lower jack stiffener. I will be happy once it is done, probably finish it after lunch.

Didn’t get to touch the Lista stuff, but we are set for next time, the dump trailer is done for now and I changed out two of the lights and hauled the scissor lift down to the Quonset hut. We then went to the SG and took some measurements for ideas in the Stak Rack, looks like we can setup a temporary 3 bay unit and a semi permanent 4 bay, these would most likely be more like pallet rack as I think a regular forklift will be difficult to get the shelves in and out with one person. I won’t know for sure until some of it is set up. Right now I feel good about where I am headed and how far I have gotten in the last week.

How come you can't set up the racking permanently? I thought the rack system came with a picker, will you need to use a fork lift for the racking?

The Salvage Garage is in "transition", I need to move things around, a lot, before I can assemble the "final" setup. This temporary setup will allow me to use some of the racking as storage, but I don't have enough room to setup both sides, so I can't use the bridge crane portion. The end goal will be to have Lista storage wall supporting one side of the bridge, then the Stak Rack supporting the other side, essentially a hybrid meld of the two units. In order to do this, I have to move my Bridgeport, Lathe, Air Compressor, and Furnace, not something that can be easily done right now, that is why I am thinking a spring project. I also think it will be the time to redo the walls, yes remove and rebuild, then the garage door needs to be removed and a wall built, electrical will need to be reworked, air compressor plumbing moved, chimney pipe and oil line plumbing moved, ceiling installed, place new lights to fit the area, then a divider wall and door to access the stockroom. It is not a one day project.......

The temporary installation will give me a trial run for the final assembly, I am basically replacing the existing pallet rack along the sidewall with the Stak Rack, it is only 8" deeper than what is already there. The smaller section will be in the current stockroom area once I pull out the last three Lista cabinets so the drawers can be installed up at the Hill. There will be more details on this as I get things closer, I am going to need to draw things out as it is going to get complicated and I don't want to screw things up by skipping a step that makes me go backwards.

Thanks X, as for alterations, it will probably be me and a helper, I think what I want to do is too specific to let someone else run with it. It shouldn’t be too bad, except for the cost of materials, everything just went up again.

bleh yeah... building in the spring, was looking at prices and thinking damn i should just get a bunch dropped in my driveway now.

Hopefully it will go back down, by the time it does, I should have a handle on what I need. I will be saving and reusing the lumber that I remove for sure, not going to be wasteful when wood is more expensive than ever. I hate to say it, but I may resort to sawing some lumber, assuming I can get Dad's sawmill to cut straight boards instead of the fancy tapered ones it does now.

I haven't even left the house yet, but I need to drop off some things at the SG, then go back to the Hill and assess some things. I know I need to order some supplies, but I want to make sure that I get what I need. The little garage attached to the house needs to have the lights rewired, I took the fluorescent bulbs out and have LED bulbs to put in, but I think I need new tombstones to make it work. I have to yank one apart to see.

I have one I bought the conversion for. If I remember right, you just have to remove the ballast then redo the wiring.

I bought and installed these lights a couple years ago, they were in the office at the Hill. When we started the remodel I pulled the bulbs out, as I remember there was something about shunted or not shunted tombstones and I feel like I had to swap them out, I forgot to keep them and the old fixtures are long gone. I will have to do a bit of research again, once I pull one apart I should know if they work or not.

I think I am going to repurpose a couple things that I recently got, I will need to do a bit of purchasing to get it done, but int he end it will add some great storage that will be movable (casters). I will show pictures as I figure things out, need to pick up the main pieces at the SG when I go over there. It is still pretty cool outside, so I am lingering inside, got to get things rolling or I won't get anything done today.

Went digging in the deep storage, found some wire I needed, then a couple other things, I grabbed a bin to see if it will work for what I want to setup, also grabbed a big hydraulic C press, my neighbor is trying to get some pins out of an excavator track and it may help. Now to commence shop Tetris.......

I don't even know how many tons it is, I think it is only 5 or 10 tons, but it looks like you could use a larger ram on it. I will have to bring it inside and look, it is still in the Burb.
