Who makes a good wheel ramp

Hi all.

looking for a set of wheel ramps to do oil changes at home. Rhino has bad reviews so I’m looking for something else. I should add my driveway has a bit of a grade in it. I’ll be alright?

I've had a set of rhino ramps for 20 years. Dad has had his for ~15. No problems from us. I even slipped and drove the wifes car over the end one time and the pinch weld put a divot in the raised stop, that ramp still works as intended. In fact, my Chevelle's front wheels are on them right now with the rear on jack stands. Been that way for a month now.

I store my ramps outside and didn't want plastic ramps due to risk of derogation from UV. I opted for the steel ones from Napa

For oil changes, I only need about 3" of lift, so I also made a DIY ramp out of 2x12's - similar to what is shown here.

Yes, not sure what exact recipie. Mine are black, IIRC dad's are a dark gray.

Neither pair have ever been stored outside.

I've had my 1T CCLB chevy on them, dad's vette, all the wife's dailys, Chevelle, 96 Impala, various friend's cars, 2010 F150, 96 Chevy 1500 ECSB, and I'm sure others that I've forgotten.

Steel here as well. They too sit outside on end. Our larger dog used to water them until I placed them behind a chain link fence section of our back yrd.

Make it as tall as you need. On my '11 F-250 I needed this much so my elbows didn't get burned on the catalytic converters. On this '17 the marketeers held sway and I can play basketball while changing the oil.

The 1500lb capacity (per ramp) for low profile cars is on sale for $359.

Following for ideas. I can't bring myself to try Rhino ramps with the bad reviews. I really want a set that have a long lead up for modern cars and don't cost $300 or $400. My wife's Saturn and my Hyundai can't drive up my steel ramps without an additional 2x6. And that can get hairy and kick out if I give it too much throttle.

Personally I wanted to build a set like this. They seem sturdy enough.

I have a set of (assuming home-made by my dad or grandpa) car ramps made of about 7 2x12 boards (skinny side up, bolted together in multiple places horizontally) and shaved down at an angle, about 8 feet long overall). They are heavy as hell and pain to store, but you probably could park a tank on top of them without failure.

I know wood isnt cheap lately, but if you had a bunch of blemished or useable "scrap/cull" you probably could make some on the cheap.

I've got a rhino ramp with a semi-crushed corner due to an oops I made moving my truck while working (ramp got wedged under the truck).

It still holds my car just fine if it happens to be the one I grab to use (I have two sets).

I don't know what bad press they've gotten but they're really sturdy in my experience, and they don't creep or chew up the driveway like sheetmetal ones.

I have Rhino ramps at home. The f250 might be a bit much for them I think. They dont really inspire confidence even though the truck is within their weight limits. No problems with cars.

Ive worked places with the "mobile" OTC HD 20 ton truck ramps and theyre wicked (wicked heavy too unfortunately). Too bad theyre like $1500. Been tempted to make my own versions.

I was gifted a set of Rhino Ramps back in 2004, they are the grey ones, I have had no problem with them and had them outside under one of my cars in the elements for over a month still with no issue. I do store them on end in the garage otherwise.

I did actually kill a set of Rhino Ramps. Put the back wheels of my Dodge 2500 up on them with the open car trailer hooked up. But the failure was gradual, not sudden.

In the USA, Rhino ramps are likely the most readily available ramps. I have used and abused mine for at least 20 years. Where are all these bad reviews? How many people were killed or injured using Rhino Ramps? Rhino Ramps don't rust, don't gouge asphalt surfaces and are relatively lightweight.

Mustang picture they are solid one piece. I’ve had roll back trucks on them and can trust it. The corvette ramps were made for it because it’s so low I could not get the jack under. Also have another set that are just a wood stand for the tire to sit on. I trust these more than any manufactured ramp.

I have 2 sets of Rhino ramps, going on 15 years. 1 black and 1 grey. I zip tied the rubber foot into all of them, so they don't get lost. I haven't had any problems with them.

That's what I have, worked fine with my 4Runner, Flex, and Honda Odyssey

I made a set of four that are pretty compact, for maximum access behind the tires. Downside? Steep ramp. The punk studs (lag screws) help, but 4-low is still the ticket for hopping up on all four at once. No issues with just two wheels up.

I was skeptical about Rhino ramps but I finally broke down and bought a set last summer. I needed a set to do oil changes on my new car. I usually use a jack and jack stands when changing oil on my truck but that seemed like overkill for changing oil on a little four cylinder front wheel drive car. The Rhino ramps work great for my application and I am glad to have them in case I need them for other vehicles. My only complaint is I wish they had another few inches of height. My car is still pretty low when on the Rhino ramps (plus I'm a large person) but it's JUST enough for me to get the job done.

They've also had a Ford, Chevy, and Dodge one ton diesel 4X4's on them at one time or another. My only complaint was when I had an ****** and a Subaru Impreza. They weren't tall enough for me to be able to get my fat carcass underneath the car all the way. Trucks, no problem.

A couple points, first, where are all these "Bad Reviews", are they even real or is this just an urban legend that keeps lingering around?

Second, unhappy people are much more likely to post a negative review than happy people are to post a positive review. If 10% of the reviews somewhere are negative it doesn't mean 10% of customers are unhappy, it's very skewed.

And finally, I notice so many folks that post negative reviews either misuse the product or don't know what they're doing in the first place, and often complain about something not even related to the product's performance like damaged box/packaging or a smudge/scuff on the finish.

Reviews can be very useful, but you really need to look at them subjectively. As far as I can tell from this thread, the claims Rhino Ramps have issues is much more myth than sustance

I made these Redneck diy ramps. They work great. When you drive up on all four, you need 4wheel or AWD though.
