I am looking at the following garage doors. I gave each of the installers a general idea of what I was looking for:

(2) 16x10 Door
Steel Front and back
Preferably Polyurethane Insulation but would consider polystyrene
High Lift Tracks
Electric Openers

(1) 9x10 Door

No Electric Openers all other specs are the same

I was quoted the following installed price:

Clopay 4050 polystyrene insulation w/8500w openers $10, 200

Haas 680 polyurethane insulation w/8500w openers $14,200

Garaga Acadia 138 polyurethane insulation w/8500w openers $ 11,400

What do you think is the best value? It is for a detached garage (pole barn) where the garage doors will probably be raised and lowered less than 10 times per week on average.

Where do you live, what is the use of the pole barn, is it heated/cooled, why only 1 3/8 doors....

Lots of information needed to help make decision....

Maryland, Used for workshop garage, it will not be heated full time, light insulation maybe added in the future.

I would see about getting a 2" polystyrene. IMO it is the best value and shouldn't be a ton more than the 1 3/8".

Other than that, I wouldn't spend the money on the polyurethane. If you lived in MN and were going to actively heat it all winter it might be a different story.

What the hell!
I had a 8x16 replaced three years ago. 2" thick, Midland door with raised panels on the outside. They removed the old door and track and disposed it and installed the new door for $1,100.
I realize prices have gone up, but $14k?! Must be one hell of a door!

The above were the 3 lowest quotes two other companies quoted over $15K. I had looked at CHI doors and Horman both came it at over $15K for the polyurethane doors. Lead times for the doors are 16+ weeks.

Those prices are crazy but it is what it is and it all depends on what you are comfortable with. As I am older I really do not want a manually opening door and would prefer a electric door opener. It is all what you want but I recommend the electric opener with any of the doors

Overhead Door house brand.
18x10 with opener
12x10 no opener
both high lift track in shop with 14’ walls
both doors insulated ,,,, they are very nice, no rattles and the opener very smooth and quiet

Way, way more than I wanted to spend, or even thought they’d cost, but so is every single F’n thing I’ve bought for this new shop.
It will more than likely be my last and where I’ll see my last sunset, so , what the heck.

Yeah I am also in MD and already had doors quoted on my building, but I inquired about adding windows to the doors and they wanted an extra $500 per door

My bet is because they might be considered custom sizes while yours wasn't really. I was in a similar boat 2 years ago getting quotes on doors. I framed as 10x10 thinking that should be pretty easy to get. Each door came in at $3500ish, and I needed for of them. Decided to just build doors instead.

Do you have any idea what steel and labor prices are doing these days?
Sure I do, I realize this is for openers too, but seems crazy to me. Are you trying to tell me the door I had installed three years ago is over $5,000 today? Prices have not gone up 5 times in two years. I could understand going up 2x from three years ago.

Like I said before, they must be really nice doors!

What door exactly did you have installed? You said a 2" midland 16x8. That is in no way relatable to what the OP is having installed no matter what the model. OP is having 10' high doors installed, which are considered commercial doors by most manufacturers. That means heavier components all around. Those prices he quoted are with openers and high lift.

10x10 is a common door size, but it is a commercial door size. Most dock doors are 10x10. In residential doors, that makes it 6 sections high instead of 4, and bumps up all of the track and hardware to heavier components, even if you order a residential model.

Again without knowing all the details, $3500 for a 10x10 is a little high for most doors.

These were doors that were semi-decorative, and not just the stamped panels. I should've clarified that they were the standard size you see for residential, so the price jump was significantly more than I was expecting.

Might as well go with the Garaga Acadia 138, you said you prefer polyurethane.

I was leaning towards the Garaga it seems to me the best value based off of the specs and price. The only negative I have read was in reference to wooden ends but it does not seem like there is much solid evidence that there are problems only speculations. The installers for the Haas and Garaga doors seem to have the best reputations.

I'm in MD and went with two 10x8 garaga doors about 13 years ago. I installed the liftmaster openers myself. That was pretty easy. I went with garaga then because it seemed to be the best value. They are 1 3/4" thick, steel both sides, fully insulated, no windows. I have had no problems with the wood edges. Very happy with them!

Tell us what gage steel the door is made from.

If you wrap insulation in a steel blanket is it still insulation or just a decoration?

The door is 26 gauge steel front and back. I think the addition of the wood blocks acts as a thermal break making the insulation not just a decoration but preventing/reducing the flow of thermal energy between the two pieces of steel.

I am looking at the following garage doors. I gave each of the installers a general idea of what I was looking for:

(2) 16x10 Door
Steel Front and back
Preferably Polyurethane Insulation but would consider polystyrene
High Lift Tracks
Electric Openers

(1) 9x10 Door

No Electric Openers all other specs are the same

I was quoted the following installed price:

Clopay 4050 polystyrene insulation w/8500w openers $10, 200

Haas 680 polyurethane insulation w/8500w openers $14,200

Garaga Acadia 138 polyurethane insulation w/8500w openers $ 11,400

What do you think is the best value? It is for a detached garage (pole barn) where the garage doors will probably be raised and lowered less than 10 times per week on average.
With all installation factors and such being the same, the best value of the three listed is the Garaga door.

Regardless of what door(s) you choose, consider the jackshaft wall mounted openers. I had 2 Chamberlain openers on my high-lift doors and they are very quiet and take the motor off the ceiling for a very clean look.

Did you mean to say all 3 door you are considering are made from 26 gage steel?

The doors I have seen on the market have no wooden parts except for trim with the weather stripping.

Please post a link of photo of this wood.

When I look at most door the exterior steel panel you see as the front of the door wraps around and is exposed on the interior of the door. Steel conducts hear very well and it all wants to be the same temp.

Garaga Acadia 138

Above you will find the link scroll down toward the bottom where there is a picture of the garage door that is an exploded view , look at #2.

All three doors are 26 gauge steel with wooden end blocks

They quoted me for (2) Liftmaster 8500w electric openers in all the above quotes.

I think a lot of additional information is still needed. I think you could find someone who has already done it nearby. When I had the same situation, I ordered my new garage doors at https://doorsdirect2u.co.uk/product-category/garage-doors/. I've got a friend working here, so he's actually helped me a lot. It's very important to have someone who knows more than you. Especially when it all comes to building or repairing. Btw, we also ordered a kit by Versatube to build a garage for my dad. It was really easy to install, actually.
