I broke the brass adjuster on the left hand VM, so had to make a new one. Instead of a hex head I knurled the head so I don't have to mess around with an 8mm spanner when adjusting. As you can see, the thread isn't much chop, the only M6 x .75 die I had was a non split die and carbon steel so the thread is a little undersize and a bit ragged. I've ordered a HSS die, so as soon as that turns up I'll make another, plus one for the right hand carb. Might make them from stainless though, stainless is bit hardier than brass. So much for the brass sleeves I made.

WTF is a "VM"?? U must be in the UK somewhere, cuz here in the US of A, we call wrenches either an open/box end,
or a socket if we are using one....a "SPANNER"...here, is usually a "C" shaped wrench with a tab on the end to
locate in a slot of a part we want to tighten.

It may come as a surprise to you, but there are 195 countries in the world today, the US is but one of them. That aside, you need to brush up on your reading skills, the VM is a carburettor, not a spanner.

I was baffled too ... must be something with the "inside circle" things.. no body associated VM with carburetors until you looked up "Mikuni 2t carb" and it says VM series. LOL, apparently it wasn't just me :) or is there a trade secret thing with VM.

VM is virtual machine if you are into computers.

VM = voice mail, voice messages

Virtual Meeting?

Virtual Meat ?

Well the point is/was... out of all these acronyms, nothing says it's a Carburetor. or brand of carburetors.

VMs are a series of Mikuni carbs. The VM model name is a well known carburettor, Mikuni makes the carbs and a number of outlets put together kits for different bikes: Harley, Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Triumph, Norton and Yamaha, the TMs and VMs being very popular. Mikuni make many different carb series: TM, BS, BN, RS, CV and of course VM, plus a few others. I've never seen a left handed spanner with a brass adjuster. However, when I started work it was a widespread joke to send some of the 'not so bright' newbies out for left handed spanners and screwdrivers. A few got caught a few out here, and I wasn't even trying!

Yep and dog is a four legged animal that lives and works with us. And let's not forget TV: Total value, transvestite, transport vehicle. The fact is these carburettors are commonly known as VMs, flat slides are known as TMs. Now, can you go and get me a left handed spanner, some fallopian tubing, some elbow grease and a glass hammer.

Regardless of what you call whatever you're working on, did you use a lathe to make that part? I've always been interested in machining/fabrication, but never taken it beyond that passing interest. I'm jealous of people who are able to just make things whenever they need to.

That said, I have to be honest... I don't know why, I can't explain it, but I can't watch tool box tours (for example) on YouTube from people in other countries. Whenever I hear the word spanner (one example of many things that annoy me), I have to end the video...

LOL you are pretty much assuming every one works on carb for bikes here in this forum, even though a many are mechanically inclined, but not necessary be in your line of hobby/business of doing carb for a living.

No need to get your ******* in a bunch. I used to chuckle when the Brits co-worker says cheerios, then when he is being an ***, I always ask if he needs to go smoke some lols...

Nice machine work though.

I do NOT need to "brush up on my reading skills"....I don't care about any hot damn VM carburetor....[YOU need to do some reading bout how to properly spell "Carburetor"....whoops....never mind...I just did some READING and found out that in your part of the world the spelling you have is correct.....] and I never implied that it is a "spanner"....Obviously I'm not the only person here that never heard of a VM carb....and I could care less about reading about it!!

Calm down Francis. Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean you need to get upset about it. There's plenty of us that knew what he was talking about. I hope you don't act this way everytime you come across a new subject.

Reads like you're calling a VM a spanner to me. Yep, you most definitely need to brush up on your reading skills. Left handed spanner, hahahahaha! Now go and get a long weight!

After wading thru all the personal insults (I can get enough of that in daily life - back it down people!) I can get a word in here to ask: do you think there could be a problem with the knurled fingertip adjusters moving in use and requiring frequent tweaking? Or is your thought to use a locknut on the new adjuster thus requiring only one wrench instead of two to adjust?

Whoops, should have looked closer at your photo - I see you do have a locknut under the knurl. I have to stop looking at pics on my phone (or get better glasses).
