What are the odds a NIB DeWalt 18v XRP NiCd battery is still good? Local shop has one still sealed in the packaging...no idea how old it is, but it's Made in Japan.

Worth taking a chance on for $20? I actually have a couple tools that use them...

I would buy the adapter for the new batteries. And I did. The only thing I currently use from the old lineup is the reciprocating saw.

I just sold off most of my Dewalt 18v tools and batteries.
Most of the batteries were over 10 years old and some were still good. The ones that got used regularly but not overused.
Nicad batteries will die or degrade just sitting for a long time
So how old is that battery? Dewalt dates their stuff

You can buy the adapter for about $15 on amazon and then buy a charger and battery local or I have some new 20v chargers and batteries I could make you a deal on

Pretty good odds.
There should be a date stamp on the top of the battery beside the right release tab.
The first 4 digits is the year followed by 2 digits which is the week.
If its 10 years or newer, id go for it.
It would be good to fully charge it and discharge it with a tool three times before putting it under load.
