Co-located my tool boxes in one place so I could free up some workbench space.

A few days ago, I unpacked my car care tote and loaded it onto the shelf by the garage door. Then the other day, I made room to pull the Dakota in, so I could swap out the hubs. Still waiting on the hubs (Rockauto). So, I decided to polish the headlights out now that the kit was accessible.

Then went and unloaded the 77 D100/D150 so I could futz with it. Found an old pair of needle nose vise grips on the floorboard rusted solid.

I’m having a sheriff deputy come for a vin check on the 77 so I can title it and drive it. So meanwhile, I scrubbed the vise grips with a stiff bristle brush, soaked in WD40, sprayed out with carb cleaner, sprayed with PB Blaster, and got it to move. Some more spraying with carb cleaner and then PB Blaster, and they’re functioning as they should. Not pretty, but they work.

Still waiting on the sheriff lol

@Magnum440d100 , you might want to consider soaking those pliers in Evaporust for a few days to clean them up, too.
Will do! Just was futzing with “something” to kill time until the deputy arrived.
I don’t have any evaporust on hand, but will go get some after I replace the hubs and am not scared to drive farther than 5 miles lol

Modified a customer HF arbor press to be able to accept and hold punching, embossing and bending tools. Also made it so it can be slipped out of engagement for easier adjustment to tools and materials.

Went to Harbor Freight and got a 12K winch for the steel bumper I am getting this weekend. I wanted to pre wire it so all I have to do is mate the winch to bumper then mount the bumper in one shot to the truck.

I got annoyed at the solenoid that is used as it would not bolt straight to the battery as I have the original battery terminals so I get over thinking things again and try to find a place to mount a junction block with a short cable double eyelet cable to the battery in the truck. finally after a hour of trying to find a place for the junction block I finally get mad at myself and direct wire the solenoid to the cable wrap it in shrink wrap and then have the cable all routed. All I got to do is hook the cable end to the battery now. I then put cable protectors on and then after that lots of zip ties I have all the cables under the hood secured away from anything that rotates or move. tempImageDbtmaK.pngtempImageH27k2K.png

Dealt with this lol. Customer states they have oil leak in driveway and uses two quarts of oil every month. Drain plug had no gasket and was finger tight. I told them about it they said their son changed the oil. Judging by how dirty this car was it’s a wonder you could even know it was oil leaking haha. I spilled a bit of washer fluid and looked down and thought it was like the orange GM coolant or rusty water but it was the dirt falling off this car. They said if it’s not leaking around the filter or drain plug don’t change the oil because we will have the Mitsubishi shop do that. We had to special order a gasket even though Mitsubishi is one of our franchises we don’t stock the copper washer type gaskets for them. Only reason it was dispatched to me is because it was a waiter and the two Mitsubishi guys were busy. I cleaned off the oily area with brake clean and put oil in it and sent it just what the boss said to do lol.

Also done a wheel stud and lug that snapped off on a Subaru Legacy. I was happy to do that because I wanted to use my extra long Husky ratchet it done great. And had to do a complete fuel system flush and somewhat pretty much rebuild a Subaru Forester fuel system had a customer put diesel in it instead of gas. I feel bad for them said they had never had to do it before is what the advisor told me. I thought the diesel nozzles were a different size than gas to prevent that from happening but it’s not all of them that are different sizes I guess. I replaced the plugs, injectors, flushed the fuel tank and used lots of fuel system cleaner, cleaned the lines. I spent practically all day doing that because I got it all together and it still would not fire for anything had to take the plugs back out and clean the ends as they were getting diesel residual on them still. Customer declined new fuel lines, pump or tank otherwise I would of done those too. Finally got it to fire up and then drove it around about 40 miles to make sure everything was good. I had fun doing that when I seen that in my bin and on my computer screen as assigned I was excited lol. They said this is one exception that you can drive it longer than an allowed test drive and you can take it past the test drive route if needed. So even though it kicked my tail a little bit with the plugs I got it done and am happy with it. It will go to the customer tomorrow. Good thing we aren’t flat rate anymore or I probably would of lost money lol. The customer had filled it up and it done ok but run rough then died and would not start back up and they kept cranking it with the diesel in it. So it probably was mixing with the gas at first then the gas completely ran out leaving just the diesel in it is my guess. Just glad the issue is fixed now hopefully.

That was the best day I have had in a long time I love big jobs and we seem to be picking back up so it’s always good news to hear that. Now if we could get certain parts we would be doing excellent.

Regular fuel station diesel nozzles are the same type and size. They sometimes have a different color wrap on the handle. I work with a gentleman who put gas in his new diesel truck. Oopsie!

Most stations use green handles for diesel, but BP uses green for gas!? A real head scratcher. Some other stations also utilize yellow handles for diesel. Now big semi sized fuel stops have larger diameter fuel nozzles in the semi pull thru bays.

I bought a new WeatherTech Rubber Mat for my Snow-Thrower. I don't mind the wet floor but the rust stains on the floor from the skids don't clean up easily. I've had WeatherTech mats in my cars and have always thought they made a good product. This mat is no exception. Quality made in the USA.

Damn you. Why do you keep helping me spend my money. Now that I've seen that mat I have to have one as well. Last week it was the skids. You need to quit posting so much of your cool **** as my wallet can't take it. ;)

No kidding! I'm just glad he didn't include a link also.......I can think of a bunch of useful places for that mat.

Still struggling with organization a bit. Not so much the organizing as stuffing 10lbs in a 5lb sack.

As mentioned in a previous reply, I went from a 10’x12’ shed to a 24’x30’ APPX garage. Sounds great, right? Well, the 10’x12’ shed, I was able to utilize all the walls and floor space. The garage, I have only a strip along the back wall with a bench and my tool box.

I went and did my taxes today, and then to the BMV to register that 77 dodge into my name. I should NOT have gone to the BMV ($150 later…).

Well, the hobo freight was right next door a couple doors down.

One thing I’ve been struggling with is workbench space. I bought a box o rags in 2019 when I first moved in. Been using them since I got back. And boy, does that box LAST! But it also takes up space.

So, I picked up the paper towel holder from hobo freight since the box o rags was finally running out. That moved the rags/paper towels from a horizontal space to a hanging space.

While there, I grabbed the gloves holder as well. This way, the gloves aren’t stored inside the box where they are in the way. Now they’re on the left side of the box where vehicles are parked to be worked on. Convenient.

It’s not much, but every little bit helps :/

Pulled my brand new 2023 Nissan 4x King Cab Frontier into our garage. Then I woke up... Spent time this morning breaking down cardboard boxes and crushing down a bunch of water, etc, plastic jugs for the recycle pickup next week. Got my crushed down soda (beer) cans ready to go as well. Wife says that I drink too much. But I tell her that "I don't much as drink as you think I do". But I am cutting back tho.

What I did in my garage. Part TWO lol

I had some plans that got canceled on me. No worries, as I REALLY didn’t want to be out in this weather.

So, I spent more time in the garage.

Got my grampas tools in his boxes. That cleared a cardboard box off the ground and out of the way of walking. Unpacked a couple more totes and found the tote with the hood hinges for the 72 dodge (pictured). So got the hood cleared of **** in anticipation of installing them.

And something I’m not entirely proud of, except out of necessity. My upper box took a beating on the trip out here. And got a bunch of scrapes down to bare metal. No dents thankfully.

I had a bunch of stickers laying around. So they went on the box. Can’t even tell where the beat up parts are! Hahahaha

Still haven’t cleared the work bench entirely :(

It’s dinner time now.

Until tomorrow!!!

I opened the garage door, the warm air hit the cold floor and then I had a cold, wet floor. So that plan is off

Ok wire panels cut down into their puzzle pieces, for the front yard gabion. Trying to figure how i am bending the large pieces into 20" x 16" x 20" U-channels for the main body. I have a 16'L and a 6'L sections that need to be bent like this. I think I will try to use my 8'L rolling table as an edge, clamping the panel and trying to apply a 90deg bend in increments. Multiple passes. The 16'L will be problematic. But committed now that ive trimmed the pieces down. I literally cant cut one side of the U free to make it easier. I HAVE to bend them, now. Or piss away $150 worth of panels.

I've also marked up all the 4x10 beams for the ogives and half-lap joints and notches. I might start the circular saw cutting work on those tonight. I need to break them down before i move the rolling table into that middle garage bay, anyway. But first i'm gonna take a break...

... Circular saw rough shaping cuts almost complete. I still have to make the big field of half-depth cuts at the middle ends of both main beam halves for the half-lap joint. Tomorrow. As well as the shaping of the six ogive end curves. But that's sawzall, router and beltsander work. If I focus on that, the new pergola parts might be ready for staining over the weekend.

and did a little maintenance on the old pickup, in case I get a callback about some 'free' stone for those gabions.

BP handles in green can be confusing if you are not a regular BP customer. To be fair they have been using green on their handles long before diesel cars and trucks became popular, after all green is their corporate color. I had a diesel powered 1981 Toyota pickup truck and I had to stop and think about which pump to use when I stopped at BP. The good part was that there was a gas crisis around that time and long lines at the pump was the norm, no waiting at the diesel pump.

The hubs showed up today.

Ran errands this morning. Now got the Dakota in the garage with the heaters going, to help dry it off so I can work on it “comfortably” lol

Plus letting the hubs warm up so I can paint them. Hopin that helps keep the rust “at bay”.

So most likely not gonna be swapping hubs till tomorrow. But I DID pick up some hardware so I can attach the new heat shields to the exhaust manifolds. Again, just awaiting the warmth lol

Spent a hour faffing about with FordConnect, no joy, can't connect.. & while it was telling me this, it connected to check for updates.

On the upside, got 8yr/100k mile Premium factory warranty upgrade/extension at dealer cost... which was over $2,700 cheaper than the local stealership quoted. ($1790 instead of $4500)

Good luck with those. I did the hubs on my 01 a couple years ago. Broke one breaker bar getting them loose. An air hammer will help once you get the bolts out. Not a lot of tool clearance to work with on the back side.

Decided to start early. Got 2 bolts out. Snapped the third. Drilled it out, but the hub is rust seized on there.
No air hammer or air compressor right now unfortunately. So I’m gonna have to pop the spindle off and see if the 20T press can push the hub out.
Called it a night, and got on the interwebs to order a replacement bolt. The Dakota is my only driver right now. So I can’t just hop on down to the hardware store :/

Have you ever tired the knock a stud out and use a pusher bolt method? >

I have not.

I did knock out a stud to get to the broken bolt to drill it out. I have no problem knocking the rest out. It’s 5 lug. If I could have 5 bolt puttin pressure on, that’d be perfect.

Thanks for the video! And he was right. The hub puller/slide hammer was ineffective.

Before I went inside for dinner, I did spray the whole thing with pb blaster. Gonna let it soak over night. Hopefully SOMETHING happens.

The hub bolts are a pain.

$15/each at the Dodge parts counter.

A press may work, I don’t have one. Air hammer, even a cheap one, helps.

The rust does eventually let go. A better air hammer would probably help.

Luckily, we have another car, and I work from home, so there’s no rush on the repairs. If something takes a while, I can just lock the door and get back to it later.
