Very nice, hopefully the owner doesn't look up those amber handle Craftsman pieces on eBay!
No apparently he didn't. Garage was very neat, big Snap On box, vintage Honda motorcycles and some car under a blanket. I said I was a fan of the Proto Flying Lady logo. He says "I'm a Snap On Guy" A quick look at the sockets I see Wiiliams, and others. its all still in the car ,we're getting hit with ice n snow right now.

Even though I have several Porta bands, this Milwaukee deep cut, worm gear for $25 was too good to pass up. So I pick up the saw, and I see one of those small acetylene tanks that go to the Porta torch rigs. I ask him if that’s for sale and he says, “I’ll just throw that in for free“. Damn! Thanks!

Thanks, LS!
And we HAD to take these Bell System things.
My shears with wire stripping back are also Claus, with sheath. See Bell Systems thread. Hope to see yours there.
And an eclectic assortment.
The crate tool is Bridgeport.
Somethings I've found in the last few weeks.
Nice Heritage "lunchbox"! Also nice big pebble fields DBE with the class Plomb electroplating rack burn marks! Believe it or not, we have a thread for that. See Index in Sticky.

I hit three estate sales and a couple Restores today. None of them were tool-specific sales, but I think I did alright:
51888860095_3c44dfc2de_c.jpg
From the first sale: Dunlap bp, Grey combo's, and from the free box a beehive driver and an endmill. There is also a Snap-on DBE but that seems to be on my front seat still.

51888863800_39e06681ef_c.jpg
From the second sale: a zig-zag ruler, Thorsen socket, Stanley brace bit, Ritter and Mossberg offset drivers and some Stanley hinges. The Mossberg is interestingly marked:
51888542739_d5b6fd6e8e_c.jpg

The third stop was a barn sale, not much in the way of tools, but I found a few things:
51888292033_417fc31428_c.jpg
Some old hardware, including Schrader caps and cores in half-full boxes, silver solder in the tube, a Shrader gauge leather sheath, a box of grease fittings, friction tape, misc. electrics, wire brushes, and valve grinding paste.

51888286168_8a22038006_c.jpg
a Triplett 310 (rebranded Jensen) in the case with all accessories, a fifties book on electrical blueprints, and a leather cosh.
Interesting story on that. It was inside the house, and I only spotted it when I did a final walkthrough, as it was in a glass case. I asked for a price, and she said "I was telling people $75, but I just want it gone. So, $40? Or, what do you think?" I offered half that, and she said "why not." I have no idea what I am going to do with it, but it is kinda cool. Lugz and I can show each other the next swap we met at.

The Restores yielded the following:
51888865375_cbc77971f1_c.jpg
Wooden plane, Tru-fit combo from the thirties, and a Walden spinner.

ARE YOU TEASING??!!
Of course, I am. But, I really don't know anything about it, other than what it says. I don't really collect military stuff, so, is it worth something to someone? Is it interwar? GMTK?

Oh, and that cosh is something else. A piece of spring with a lead weight at the top, handwoven. You could really give someone a headache with that!

It is not GMTK spec. Too short and round. Spec called for 8-1/2" x 3/8" octagonal stock. The OAL is max, so guys (including me) will use that to justify shorter, but yours looks real short. Like maybe only 5" or so, right? The blades are correct, though. My guess is some other purpose, and prewar. The first GMTK spec was 1938. I bet it's earlier than that. It looks like Mossberg to me, not APCO-Mossberg. But it's cool as hell. Anything with an Ordnance Dept marking is, and I have quite a few ORD DEPT tools. It being Mossberg just makes it cooler. I PM'd you.

Yes, I got the Atlas at an estate sale of a Chevron gas station owner. He had taken it home to use as a toolbox. It had a piece of plywood on it so I upgrade to butcher block.

The butcher block most certainly takes it to a new level. Very, very nice!

+1!!!

I have a modern/longer one. It gets used at least once a year. Don't think I ever knew it was called "mechanical fingers" (which is a correct term), I think it just said something like "pick up tool" on the package when I bought it.

We were just expounding on the utility on the Bonney thread. Pickerupper, mechanical fingers, small parts holder, mechanics' best friend, they have many names, formal and informal. I have several, some short, some extra long, some rigid, some flexible. Bonney called them Handy Holders. Most of my vintage examples were made by Aircraft Speciality Corp in Lapeer, Michigan, and I suspect they are one of several good bets for OEM for the big boys. Magnets and mirrors are also very handy, and I collect them, too.

I'm constantly amazed at how so many tools we use today were actually invented long ago.

I would list each of those amber handles for around $125 each on the bay. They should disappear quickly!

I’ve missed out on a few deals on VarageSale, but not today! Big Snap On toolbox set. Upper, lower, and side piece. All in rough condition, but hey, it’s a Snap On! $60! Six-oh! F3535A2B-85FF-4B7E-862F-8C6D3F4FB0AF.jpeg

haven't scored many tools lately - can only offer pics of some of my other successes. some may recall components picked at last month's estate sale. before and after of the grommes 15pg amp; after of the fisher 80r tuner - which was initially much worse.

I hit four sales today, the first two being dead-enders, but the second seemed to be pretty decent.

51889827843_852082fab4_c.jpg
The third stop was a farm estate sale, and there were some interesting things in the pics, but sadly, the toolbox was marked as a single unit, with a rather high price. High enough that unless it was packed with brand new Snap-on sets it was overpriced. Anyway, I did manage to find a None Better ratchet, a few punches, a set of SK raised panel wrenches (1/4" to 15/16") a cabinet lock, a Boyt rifle case (40"), and a socket box filled with misc. hardware.

The last sale was a combination of a few sales apparently, which I dislike, as it means you don't get to go through things in situ. But, needs must.
51889747901_0d4bbbb1a2_c.jpg
Most of a Proto 10ton puller (and I probably have the remaining parts) and a Challenger wrench set.

Oh, that socket box I showed earlier?
51889741621_c45bf87f0d_c.jpg
51888779482_83b7d51af4_c.jpg
That cleaned up a heck of a lot better than expected.

My first decent day since New Years Day. Hit an estate sale here in town, and was fortunate that most of the regulars were at a bigger, nicer estate sale outside of town. Was more fortunate that the folks running the sale had their late teens/early 20s daughter out in the shed making deals and taking money for the tools. She named what I thought was a fair price for the first handful, and by the 3rd she just asked what I thought was fair. Ya wins some, ya lose some...

cmccuist1 you ****! I took the afternoon off to hit a couple sales. Nothing particularly eventful or interesting about the sales themselves, all pretty much run of the mill estate clean outs.

First stop, $18 got me this batch: most of a Herbrand metric 3/8 set, I mostly grabbed it for the SK ratchet. Also picked up random SK and Craftsman sockets and a Craftsman 3/8 extension. The Craftsman adapters are kind of interestingly marked, the "V" is between the measurements for the drive numbers (1/2V3/8 and vise versa). The Proto driver is LA, I always grab the little SK boxes when I find them and the small driver I was hoping to be Plomb but it's Fuller. The punches are Enderes, there are still 3 in the box coated in that black goop (cosmoline)? I figured one of you WWII guys might want them. Last is a Snap on punch and big SK DBE.

Next up was a privately run sale and there were a bunch of old guys out back pricing all the tools so I figured I'd pay out the nose. They were reasonable though and even let me bargain a bit. $22 for this lot. The metric theme continues as both the Indestro and New Britain sets are metric. Unfortunately the 19mm Indestro socket is replaced by a Craftsman but otherwise the set is complete. Below that are Walden and Bon-e-con ratchets, Plomb 3/8 extension, Snap on adapter, and a little Armstrong DBE. The long skinny DBE is a mystery to me, and under that are little P&C and Proto DBEs. The long 3/8 extension is Proto, the 1/4 inch extensions are Herbrand and Wizard, and the 1/4" breaker is also Wizard.

Last stop didn't have much in the way of tools but there were a few things laid out in the garage. Picked up a brand new shop apron, Plumb bp, random Snap on socket, Starrett dividers, Worthington roofing hatchet, and a cool little VlChek punch/chisel set. Not sure if there's supposed to be another piece in there or not. I think this batch was $16.

Not sure I'm following...are you asking if the Plumb logo is raised? If so, it's not, just stamped. There also appear to be some marks added, C W D I believe. Looks like a pretty run of the mill hammer to me but I've proven myself ignorant on many previous occasions!
