What do you think about the Bendpak HD-7W?

I have a small shop a 30'X20' and I want to have a four post lift inside. Since my shop has a high ceiling a main point for me is the high rise ability of a 4 post lift. Based on my research the Bespeak 7W has the smallest footprint and offers the high rise clearance. Vehicles I will be raising will be my F150 super crew pickup 5-6k weight and maybe a muscle car in the future still less that the 7k weight rating.
I am not sure where, but I read that someone had and loved their- 7W model but it would not lift his Tahoe SUV? Does anyone know of any concerns that I should have about choosing the Bendpak 7W model? Or maybe someone has another 4 post lift that they think is better?

I have a 9XW in my 30x40. Holds my Duramaxes with no issues and leaves me with close to 80 inches underneath the runways. I usually keep my Chevelle on top and one of my Duramaxes underneath. In my mind, the extra money for the 9k is worth it..

Doing this again right now....

The 7 series is a little lite for heavy rigs, but BP will lift the rated weight in my experience.

Don’t see why it would be an issue lifting a Tahoe it’s still under the rated weight.

Bolt it down for added stability if you are concerned.

The electrical installation can have a lot to do with whether a machine will lift or not. My dad at his automotive repair shop had a two-post lift moved to a different bay which required new wiring. Before it was moved, it would lift his and customers crew-cab dually trucks and larger with no issue. After moving, it would barely lift the dually, never mind anything bigger. As it turned out, smaller gauge wire was used, and as a result the motor just wasn't getting as much electricity as it was in the previous installation. Rectifying that returned it to its previous performance.

So if your lift is wired in properly, it should easily lift to the manufacturer rated capacity.

Very good point. Thank you

I have no experience with BendPak and have nothing to criticize about them. But since you asked if anyone has a different 4 post lift they think is better, I’ll offer one competitor for consideration. I spent over a year trying to decide which 4 post lift to purchase, and read every thread I could find on multiple forums. My impression after all that deliberation and reading, was that there were more complaints about BendPak performance and customer service and parts than other brands, and that the people who were most satisfied were those with Advantage lifts. It may just be that there are way more BendPak’s out there; I don’t know. I bought an Advantage, and had it delivered and erected by a lift company that services all makes, but doesn’t sell Advantage. The lead guy told me he thought the lift I bought was one of the best available. He may have just wanted me to feel happy, but I am very satisfied with mine.

I have an HD-9XW (I think) and wish I had gotten the HD-7XW or whatever the tall version is. My garage is 24x30 and the heaviest car I have is a 5000 lb SUV though sometimes I work on family members’ suburbans that are 6000 lbs and we have a couple of E350 XL that I try not to work on. 2’ shorter would have given me a little more free floor space. But I like the HD-9.

Thanks for telling me about the advantage lift. I will check it out.

I understand, right now I am trying to order the Bendpak 7W model but dealer said they don't have a 120V motor option. Lucky I seen an earlier thread about a bendpak motor number of 5585178 for an option. so I am on hold asking Jegs if they can in fact order the 7W model with the 120v power pack.

I had a HD-7 and liked it. I don't remember exactly which model it was. I bought it instead of an HD-9 because the dimensions were a better fit for my space but I could have bought the HD-9 for few hundred dollars less. Be sure you compare prices.

It’s ridiculous they don’t offer it with a 120v hydraulic unit. My 9000 lb lift has a 120v power pack, and had no difficulty lifting my F250 at 40 deg F. It even uses a 15 amp plug, though they say you need a 20 amp circuit (which mine is on.)

Now that our garage is built I am looking at getting a Direct Lift 4 post lift, but that is 60-10 months away yet just doing research now.
I really like my direct Pro Park 8. It's definitely not a commercial model like I used to use at my dad's business, but it is perfect for my needs in my shop at home maintaining my car collection and building hot rods. Mine came with the property, and just like anything else how well you maintain it will make all the difference.

One thing to note, mine is currently on a 120V 15A circuit. It works fine, but labours a bit if you stop with a vehicle on it (not on the locks) and try to start again. The manual recommends a 20A circuit, which I'll be having wired in to hopefully solve that issue.

I think you will find there is no change going to a 20A circuit. The motor is going to draw what it wants to draw. If it's not tripping the 15A breaker, then it's doing everything a small motor with a big load can do. There will be some increased resistance as the wire warms up, but the breaker is there to protect the wire.

I've seen wire gauge make a big difference with lifts in the past, as I detailed earlier in this thread.

Hot Dog! I pulled the trigger and ordered the Bendpak 7W from Jegs. Little by little my home shop is coming together. I got it and the wheel kit for 5,900-
In 2018, the total would have been about 1/3 less. Great lift, though and you can’t stop prices from going up.

That's what burns my ***, can't believe how much prices have jumped. Wish I could have had a crystal ball on this one, would have bought one then.

Bendpak was delivered and the power unit I received was the model # 5585003 that’s the 220 motor. When I explained that I needed the 110 v motor they were happy to swap out the 5585003 motor for another pump # 5585014 this is the new model # for the Ranger pump that runs on 110v.
Really good people I met at the Bendpak facility in Santa Paula.

I am looking at purchasing the HD-7W. I like the 80" drive under clearance on the top lock. Would there be any issue with the 164" runway length when lifting a Ram 1500 Crew Cab? The wheelbase is 140.5" so both tires fit on the lift. The length of the truck is 229". Is there a max length for vehicles?. The HD-9XW gives me the 80" on top lock also with 188" runway length. I would prefer the shorter overall length of the HD-7W vs the HD-9XW if I can. The truck will be the bottom vehicle but I still want to be able to lift it when needed for maintenance.

Finally finished building it and ran it up and down. I am very happy with it.

I have a 2004 Ford F-150 4 door I will try it on the left soon.
I choose the smaller footprint of the hd-7w for my smaller shop.

I have the 9 but wish I had gotten the 7. It would do all I needed and would not have taken up quite as much space.

Some lift manufacturer manuals talk about this, good idea to check the manual before purchasing something big like this.

I tried lifting my 5,800 lb Pickup with my 8,000 lb direct lift. While it would do it, on my lift the issues were that the width of the runways is such that the outer 2" of the tires hang off the runways, plus the posts are narrow enough I had to fold the mirrors in to even get it on the lift. It was also labouring quite a bit to lift it.

With my lift it's easier to service my truck on the ground with ramps, or a jack and stands. I've got a big triple garage though, so space to work isn't an issue. Your mileage may vary.

Have you had a chance to try the F150 on it yet? Any pictures or feedback you could give? Thanks
