I got 15 of these which were included in a lot with other electrical stuff at an auction. They have great switches if nothing else. But does anyone know what the purpose of these is/was? Obviously ex military but just curious as to what they were used for if anyone knows. Thank you!

Sort of like a Spider Box, but not, they have a 50A locking inlet, & outlet, 20A 120V locking receptacles, a 30A 240V locking receptacle for construction site power, yours is some sort of power distribution box with Hubbell Safety Shroud Twist Lock® NEMA 4X outlets, doubt they are military though.

Those wires look awefully small what are they 16ga. Seems undersized for such robust twist lock outlets.

Lightweight Water Purifier Cold Weather Kit... You've got the power distribution box...

That's someone selling one. This is the product page:

It appears to be a truck/helicopter portable reverse osmosis plant, and this is the kit designed to keep it running in freezing conditions. The military has well built toys. :)

What sort of certification did that setup pass? They're clearly using the twist locks for that purpose rather then normal power but you'd think at the very least they would have removed the 20A tags from the covers and put a warning that they're 2A max each or whatever it is.

Well for starters someone removed the 20A input plug and replaced it with a 15A plug. Each of the five 20A plugs is rated at 2A based on the breakers inside the box.

Weird for sure and don't see much utility in owning this. Looks pretty.
