Honeywell thermostat with remote sensor

I just installed a Honeywell 8000 series TH8110R1008 thermostat to control zone 2 in my house. I also got the C7189 Wireless remote sensor so I can locate the temperature sensing in a better area than where the old thermostat was sensing temperature and always prompting the furnace and zone dampers to send more heat to the less used part of the house. I tested this before buying the stuff, by temporarily relocating the old thermostat with long wires to an area in the dining room. The zone dampers worked better and the heating in the house was more stable. Because of all the brick inside my house, and very difficult access to simply route wires to the best location for the thermostat, I went for the wireless sensor and new thermostat.

Got the thermostat wired at the original location and wires; red, white, green and blue (for yellow, whoever installed it back in 73 did it that way). Red to R, White to W, Green G and Blue to Y, which also matches the connection at the PerfectTemp panel on the furnace. At the thermostat I added a jumper from the R to the C, because the C connection requires 24v for the Redlink remote sensor. But so far I cannot get the C7189 remote sensor to link up with the thermostat, I keep getting the "24vac required". So am I right that I need to fish another wire up to the thermostat from the 24v transformer so the C connection has a complete 24v circuit? I checked at the R wire and i have a steady 27vac signal.

You can not jumper the R to C. You need a common wire from C on the furnace to C on the thermostat.

If pulling a wire is a huge hassle you can buy an Honeywell Equipment Interface module, THM5421R1021, then all you need is a two wire for power at the thermostat and the 'stat communicates wirelessly to the EIM. all you zone board connections go to the EIM.

Another think that people just don't think about is the thermostat can be pretty much anywhere. I have have people just put the thermostat in the basement next to the furnace and run a wired or wireless sensor. The only downside is you need to walk farther if you want to change a setting.

Usually R/RH are the one leg of the transformer 24Vac output at the furnace and C is designated the common (the other leg of the transformer output) I think doing the R to C jumper you might have effectively shorted the two.

I should correct myself, you have a zone control. There should be a C connection on the zone control to the thermostat.

Thanks all. I can run another red and white for the C connection at the thermostat,to the control panel.

Now, the old thermostat, which also signalled the zone 2 and zone 3 dampers from the Perfectemp control panel, only had three wires to it, connected to the panel in the picture at R, W and Y. But the new Honeywell thermostat, to use the wireless sensor, must have 24 vac to the C terminal. So I'll need to run another red and white, or just a white, from the control panel 24ac red and white. Everything shown below is as it has been since I owned the house in 2002, and its just as the HVAC company had done when they installed the furnace back in 2012.
