I hit a few sales and Restores over the last few days. Here is the plunder:
51935765132_4e9b037209_c.jpg
On Thursday I hit one sale, getting a Williams 1/2" speeder and a Pebble 17" breaker.
51936765051_e65973ab8f_c.jpg
I also stopped in at three Restores, picking up a military ignition set, an unmarked 3/8" speeder (I know I have seen this style before), Wright 1/4 extension, Lufkin folding rule, Plomb SOE, and a Proto hex key tool.

I wasn't planning to go out on Friday, but I was drawn to a couple sales:
51937080349_b3c6ddaa89_c.jpg
Goodell Pratt 188 with bakelite handle, misc. lamp parts, SK and Herbrand wrenches, a Goodwrench ratchet (early), and one other thing
51937062314_2f2bc442c7_c.jpg
a Snap-on puller set inbox. I talked them down to $40 on that, but I didn't realize it had extra legs.

On Saturday, it looked promising but was mostly dead ends.
51935784737_cc8f33ff2c_c.jpg
Lufkin 18" rule with a kinda junky head (already replaced with a Starrett), two large Williams sockets (1-3/16 and 1-1/4), and a Plomb driver.

Sadly, Flicker doesn't want to show a few extra pics of some other stuff I picked up. As soon as I get a chance I will put that up.

Took the day off on Friday, thought I'd conduct a little experiment and see what it took to get to the front of the line on a big tool sale. Long story short I got up at 4 AM, was at the house 12 minutes after the address posted at 5 AM, and I was #19 on the list...tough crowd around here. I wasn't too invested as I didn't see much in the pictures that interested me, but the sale was massive and I thought I'd find some stuff I liked. Turned out this guy bought a lot of high end machinist tools but pretty much all of the hand tool stuff was either V era craftsman or harbor freight junk. After all that I bought a Giller box for $2...wrench for scale.

IMG_3847.jpg

As luck would have it I then stopped by a random CL sale and the old guy had some decent stuff, was digging through some sockets and wrenches when I looked over and saw this box. Got the box and the assorted tools for $22. He said he bought this in high school.

IMG_3845.jpg

Most of this stuff is pretty obvious, the DOE tappet at the bottom is circle X though no Duro Chrome anywhere that I can recall...
IMG_3848.jpg

Was pleasantly surprised to see a few old Snap on sockets and a Husky, along with a few other bits.

IMG_3855.jpg

Last notable sale of the weekend I spent way too much money, I think I dropped around $150, most of which is in the planes. I don't see Baileys in this nice of shape very often, they're newer but I bought them as users so not too worried about which type they are. #4, 5, and 7. This shop was small but packed full of stuff, every time I looked in a different spot I saw something else interesting.

IMG_3842.jpg

Here's the other stuff I bought along with the planes, Starrett auto punch, SK 1/4" rat, little Williams DBE and VlChek DOE, the Fulton I grabbed by mistake as I thought it was long C from the other side, the 1/2" pear head I don't see very often, and then a completely trashed None Better set. Hoping it cleans up ok.

IMG_3840.jpg

And finally a few left behinds. I was tempted on the Wilton but $250 was too much for me, no swivel base or anything else. The Coleman 200A was in decent shape and had the box, but I don't know enough about them to take a shot.

Suakit, I thought about going to that first sale you went to but I knew there would be a big
initial surge and would be picked over by the time I would get there. I just can’t get motivated to go to most estate sales because if you aren’t in the first group through the door you might as well stay home. I’m not a ******** picker like most of you...

@bmwrd0 You thought you'd just bury that Snap-On puller set into the middle of your post, and no one would notice??? Is it missing anything?

You ****, especially for $40 with extra parts and a box!

Heh. The box is dated '77, but looking through a '79 catalog it shows a bunch of different puller options, kind of a choose your own system. So, it has a lot of stuff in it, but no bearing washers or second lead screw. So, I guess it is all there, but only time will tell. I have enough Proto pullers that it is going on the 'Bay as soon as I get back in town, about a month from now.

Nice stuff, @alinc100. What is the proper name (or model number if anyone has one) for the thing in the middle with the black handle (looks like a speed steering knob)?

Mike

I'll pull a model number as soon as it arrives. This will be the 1st ever one I've seen in person, ever.
I found out today there is no model number. The breaker bar is a 1/4" dr =v= ,without part/model number as well.

When the price is right, I'll always pick up consumables whether they be Dawn or WD40 or steel wool or aluminum foil. This last sale had bulk paper towels but I would need a dispenser. Thanks to ebay:

Didn't even have to drill any holes. Just used the existing holes on the side of my Hammerhead SS box.

Picked up this old sharpening stone for $5. Apparently there is a demand for these.

Some was the very last of my dads tools plus some she had, But first I stopped at a sale not far away from her house. Some cool stuff but almost everything was Eprey BIN $$ I did get this:

I picked this Mossberg Complete-est set this afternoon. The box isn't in the best shape and needs a bit of work, but the condition of all the parts is insane. It is missing the ratchet and a couple of the wrenches are wrong, but it is complete outside of that it is in great shape for a 100yo socket set. I found it on a listing on FB marketplace for an estate sale this weekend. I won't be around, so I sent her a message offering to buy it. Offer accepted.

^ wow. first #14 set I've seen with all the holes filled in the lid - even if they're not the correct wrenches.
Sorry, I don't have any Mossberg to fill any holes.
Let me know if we can work something out on the little Niagara. ;)

Nice Beemer! Suckage! Do you have the correct ratchet? I think I have an old Mossberg that I'm not attached to but no idea of the age (or where it is!).

It is missing the ratchet
I have an extra No. 350 for you, Beemer. I'll have it with me you know where. ;)

The No. 14 sets had some minor contents variance over the years. Some have a cotter pin puller, some have the offset screwdriver, some have a No. 470 alligator, and some don't have pliers. None of the ads are completely helpful on storage in that lift-out tray (which came after the lid storage). Quite a PITA, actually. Other sets and other ads and info in our Mossberg thread here. I've actually never seen it branded a "Complete-Est" set in a catalog before, but that same picture has been used for numerous No. 14 set catalogs, and all the figure numbers on that page are set numbers.

Nice find!

I picked up 5 cool NOS Napa metal signs and a clock over the weekend.
The clock is dated 1976. The signs might be from the 80's but not sure.
I did dip into the wallet a bit and paid $400 for the lot, I just could not
leave them behind. The signs came with a hanging bracket for each.

Thanks,
guys. I have the correct ratchet, and right now I am doing some re-gluing on the box. It was a little more beat up than I thought at first. I also have an incomplete #10 set, so I was borrowing some pieces from that one.

I like the clock Marty, cool find. (y) I have a sign with that windshield/lady/car theme.

I went to two estate sales and one Restore today. The first ES was the dregs of a move-out, but the second one has some good stuff:
51945289759_7d292a2691_c.jpg Stereophone viewers, Crowntop 4-drawer, Weaver tip-off rings, various sockets (Snap-on, MAC, Par-X, Proto, Plomb, Challenger, Williams, Stallewille, SK), vintage torchier, leather satchel, Western Field cleaning kit, 6" Pyrex, Craftsman push drill and driver, shorty driver, Craftsman chisels, and a Herbrand combo. The Restore was only good for a bathroom break.

My local ReStore is a waste of time. I haven't seen a hand tool in there since I can't remember. But I still keep going for some stupid reason. Hitting a different one today by my office, but I've never found a single thing there either. What MAC socket(s) did you score?

...and over here in NOVA, if you do find a tool, it's ridiculously priced. Usually retail....

The Restores around here are hit and miss. Some are great, some picked over, some don't carry anything but nearly new furniture. But it is a game of how often can you get in there. I have found Plomb and Snap-on ratches, all sorts of socket boxes, Starrett, and so on. You just have to be there at the right time and at the right store. But I have time, which a lot of people don't.

It's a MAC 1/4" 8pt, Sabina era.

I never even heard of Restore until I came here to GJ, and still haven't stepped foot in one. Might be fun on a rainy day.

Not sure that I've ever seen an advertisement for it. Maybe once on TV years ago.

Picked up a few things (Lugz 2022_17) at the flea this morning.

2022_17.jpg

Wartime Imperial Brass flaring kit, a Colchester Lathe Co wrench with an inordinately large major jaw, a GE Electronics 4-way nutdriver, a partial set of Bonney tappet wrenches, a Kraeuter checknut wrench, another SIMANCO "S" wrench (the small one), another 41-W-2068 Indian 741 cylinder base nut "S" wrench (the larger one), a Cornwell ignition wrench and a little screwdriver I picked up purely for its COO marking ("MADE IN HAITI", believe it or not).

Here is the only LEFT-BEHIND worth snapping. They definitely went together in terms of the business end, and, even though the handles look different in color, they are both also the same kind of dense fibrous composite (probably fiberglass) and of course shape. No clue on make or use case and I wasn't curious enough to look up the stock numbers yet.

I'd be betting on canvas phenolic, not glass.

Probably right. It actually looks like the stuff I used to patch fiberglass boats with when I was a kid. Which was literally fabric and some kind of translucent hardening compound. We would patch and sand and repaint.
