On sale this week at CTC for $14. Comes in a "French fitted" case and measures outside, inside and depths. Good for measuring drill bits and wrenches (In/MM) as was asked here previously. Makes an instant unit converter too.

That is what I wanted to hear . . . How far off do you think this thing is at the extreme range?

Mind you if this is just for none critical measurements it will let you know if you're in the ball park.

I have never had a problem with mine being out at all, but I only use mine for reloading ammo.

Well I won't lie to you I am always looking for a good bargain and if it has some nice value along with performance with little money in . . .

Who am I to so no!

My intent is to have another reference material on hand just to verify my measurements.

I have a torque tester for my torque wrenches, and I use this to ensure that the torque wrenches I use are always in spec. If not I ship them out for recalibration.

I figured if I bought this little unit along with the cheapo one I received as a gift at X-mas, it would serve its purpose . . . But, if you have two POS units, how will you ever know?

That's were I don't want to get caught were both are just as ****** . . .

Well, that's it. It's fine for something quick like sheet metal gauge or measuring an exhaust pipe without having to crawl under the vehicle to read it up close, but for precision, I'd look for something better.

I actually picked one up at Princess Auto a couple weeks ago for $9.99.I took it home thinking I'd use it just for rough measuring.I compared it to my Mitutoyo and it was dead on.Surprised the hell out of me.

That is the one I borrowed from a friend, the one form Princess Auto. It appeared to me like it was accurate.

Would you mind later on just pulling it to the extremes and compare it to the other caliper and tell us if its in the same ball park.

I bought 4 of these from Princess Auto when they were on sale for about $20. I kept one and gave the rest as stocking stuffers. We all agree they work just fine for general measuring.

That one looks identical to the Matco caliper I bought for $30 or $40.

If it's the same, it takes a #357 battery.

Takes a "LR 44" button cell, measures .450" Dia. (with that caliper). Had mine a few months now and have not found the inconsistencies (non re-peatability) in measuring that others are complaining about. A lot of it is in "the feel" that you develop. I checked it against a dial caliper and a mic. on drill rod and it was dead on. Think it is good value for the money.......that's why I posted it initially. My guess is that it comes from one place with many names attached to it, at least from the ones I have looked at, at various places, that's the way it looks to be.

These appear to the be the same as the digital calipers that Harbor Freight sells.

They are awesome instruments, especially for the $10-on-sale price. My oldest is at least a decade old, and it still works as new.

You can even pull the displayed data via a CMOS-level serial data stream, although you'll be spending far more on the cable than on the device.

It's far better than the $8 toy-like plastic one that H-F sells, although the one I own stubbornly refuses to break.
