Hello everyone! I've been off-planet the last few weeks taking care of my Dad whose health took a sudden dramatic turn south. My brothers and I have been rotating in to the piney-woods of NC to make sure he made his appointments and took his meds, but then he went further south to the ICU for nearly two weeks. He's back home now (I'm here, too, on my rotation) and he's improved to the point I can actually spend some time on my favorite thread.
I see I'm about five pages behind so I've got some catching up to do!
I hope everyone has been crushing those sales and keeping the posting encouraging, congratulatory
and civil--I'm looking at you Outlaw and Gidge!!

Good day at the season opening Delaware, Ohio flea market. $13 scored me the used dewalt grinder and a new 14 gauge triple tap extension cord. $5 scored me the Cornwell Ratchet, Wilde gasket scraper, and Stanley No. 25 Angle Bevel finder. The plvmb 3320 5/16” ignition wrench and new Stanley Fat Max utility knife were $1 a piece.

There wasn't much action at estate sales this weekend. I usually find that that's the best place to pick up "non-junk" tools. My wife was able to score a bunch of cookware at great prices, so she was happy. Having struck out on Saturday, I was determined to find find something today, so I woke up early and hauled myself over to the San Francisco flea market. Although it can't compare with what it was pre-COVID, there are still some interesting things for good deals to be found.

The first item I found was a Goldenrod oiler. It stands 19" tall, measuring from the base to the tip of the spout. It needs a bit of cleaning, but otherwise almost perfect. Not bad for $10. The next item was a VERY large DOE wrench. It's a 40/46 mm. I need to look up the manufacturer, It only has a logo of a W within a diamond-shaped line. Of course, it might be an M, depending on the orientation. When I asked the seller how much he wanted for it, he replied, "Well wrenches that size usually go for 15-20 dollars, but I'll let you have it for three". I was so surprised that I hesitated for a moment, and then he said, "OK-two". If I hung around any longer, I probably could have gotten it for free.

Are those craftsman adjustable wrenches particularly valuable or desired?

My guess is those were pre 50s. Most of the ones I have found are =Craftsan=, circle y.

No, nothing too crazy I don’t think. I was just happy to find a bargain on it.

According to AA, mid to late 30’s era. I have an earlier 30’s Craftsman 4 incher in my collection that was manufactured by Diamond.

Funny, the 4 incher came in handy to break the ears off an electrical outlet yesterday. It was within reach unlike any pliers.

I helped the in-laws have their moving sale yesterday. I brought a load of tools I no longer want/need and made $250. So....this morning I got a lead on an older lady who's brother died and she's cleaning out the garage. About 4 Cman stacks loaded with tools. I walked away with all this for $100.


Baldor bench grinder, 1957 NYS license plate, VACO SAE nut driver set, empty Motorcraft binder.
Ann interesting Williams socket set(wish the decal was better but it's a complete set), Klein (I think) pliers, CMAN 1/2" swivel, older SK 1/4" extension, CMAN 1/2" extension.



Dewitt Peterson Vise Grips, Kraueter 3/8" ratchet,

CMAN USA bent handle ratchet, Proto LA & PLVMB wrenches, KD carb adjusting tool, a very old Snap On 1/2" square tube extension (can't find a part number on it anyone have info?), Long C CMAN 1/2" impact extension, KD brake bleeder wrench, Wright 1/2" Tootsie Roll ratchet, MAC 1/4" ratchet, CMAN -V- long breaker bar, Husky USA breaker bar, Snap On small extension, ARO blow gun, Blue Point flare nut wrenches, and a Snap On alighment wrench.

The Baldor works great. She also had a larger Dunlap but I grabbed this one. There was a ton more tools but I just didn't feel like buying them just to flip. I'll flip some of these but keep most. I'd like to see what the Baldor is worth. I don't need a bench grinder so if I can make some $$ I'll let it go.

Here is a CL find from mid week, a bunch of dust collector goodies that I can use to upgrade my portable WW machine setup. They were located about 8 blocks away, and chatting with the previous owner was a blast. Lotsa overlap between his likes and mine, he's more of a wood turning person, and thinning the herd a bit. Lots of nice stuff, including a Craftsman by Columbian, a bit above my bottom feeder prices, but still better than retail. Also Lots of turning blanks, wood and higher end tools coming up soon. This included 2 sweeps, 2 hoods, 2 gates, coupel of swivels, a Malco pipe crimper, and misc other goodies.



Saturday's haul included a few Heyco wrenches, and a unique to me looking Superrench, and two vintage looking but unmarked screwdrivers.


Today netted a couple of saws, a 36" tree saw, tree trimming combo saw, and an Atkins hand saw. Plus an extensible hoe / cultivator from Corona.



And finally, the other shelving I mentioned last week, just picked up today, all knocked down and ready to store until I can create space. 1x metro 18" x 36", 6' tall, and 2 2' x 4', 5' tall, and a couple of extra thick particle board shelves. The metro wire shelving is buried under the particle board, only the uprights are visible left, and the clamps in the bag right..

Hit a local Estate Sale that I knew the family. No tools, but always keep my eyes open for classic or decent Audio Equipment. Sometimes, I buy it to rescue it, as I know that if it doesn't get sold, it gets trashed. $35 got me these 2 pieces....

Yes, the flea market on Alemany. It's not what it used to be, but hopefully it will get better. It's best to go early morning.

Some screws have square openings, but that is more common on older screws. It seems like now most screws are hex or star(torx). I am pretty sure that “acorn” is the Synthes logo, a company that makes ortho and spine hardware. This is one I have that’s hex. I saved it from going into the trash at work after it got kind of worn out and replaced

Former Synthes employee here and that is definitely a Synthes screwdriver. I worked in Spine, but that driver I think has multiple applications for various Ortho systems. Not sure what material the handles are (I probably knew at one point), but I always thought faux wood was a curious choice for surgical instruments.

Btw, the logo is a stylized portion of a skeleton. Spine-pelvis-femurs.

A buck there.
I built up a goofy eclectic accumulation of them.

Then on Sunday, we run into a Flea Market Dude selling a handful of S-K Wayne combo wrenches.
Hey I thought, I can complete my set now!

I bough all that he had and now have most of the sizes from 1/4 to 1"
Just missing C-10 (5/16) and C-14 (7/16)
When the smoke cleared, I ended up with only one repeat (double)

Not the greatest looking set nor perfectly matching....
Certainly not going to be displayed in the living room, but they're ready to go to work!

That’s the way to get good quality American made tools at a reasonable price! Love finding old good stuff at the flea markets at a good price. I keep a box in the shop and when I have cast offs when I find a tool I like better at the flea market I put them in there. Have built a great relationship and friendship with my favorite tool dealer. I take him a box every couple of months, he asks a price, and I give him a good price. He in turn gives me good deals on tools I buy from him. I’d rather just trade for a set value, but he’d rather pay out and then recollect from me. It works.

Couple mystery tools in today's flea finds (Lugz 2022_22). The lady's foot pry bar is a Blue-Point and the tire gauge is a Yankee (Lundquist?). The strange pliers are marked but inscrutable so far. The other thing with the antique wingnuts appears to be some kind of flaring or crimping kit with a cutter. The mickey mouse wingnuts have Williams logo but the block itself says Chicago. I'll have to clean it up to decipher the markings and figure it out.

I know it aint great for the hose, but back in the day, clamping off rubber brake lines was normal operating procedure when opening a system. like when changing or rebuilding wheel cylinders and calipers, or changing a line.

Saw a wheelbarrow on the side of the interstate today, both handles broken off, obviously fell off a truck. I don't know what's wrong with me lately (I never would have done this in past years), but I turned around to check it out. Of course, there was much more damage to the steel tub when I saw it up close, so I left it there, but I was definitely eyeing it for spare parts at a minimum!

Picked up these Equipto cabinets, couldn’t leave them behind for $50 despite the fact that I have no room for them



Also ran across this practically new Wards PowerKraft set, unfortunately I think this stuff may be made in Taiwan. There is no USA markings and a small “T” subscript on all the pieces. Same with the 1/4 rat and extension. Interestingly the ignition wrenches are marked USA. The square is a Starrett so I had to grab it for a buck.




Finally a few SK wrenches, about a buck apiece for these.



Oddly I ran across an Equipto “tool bench” today, it’s way to big for me to bring home but it was pretty sweet! Should have taken a pic, they cut the original asking price of $125 to half off.

For sure Thorsen. That’s what the T and H in the part numbers indicate.
We hit the estate sale of a car and tool hoarder in Concord, CA this morning. It was really a mess and very dark. There was an old S-K two drawer box rusted shut in a dark corner. My co-pilot held her phone while I grabbed all of the worthwhile tools I could find. We checked out and mentioned to the seller that the bottom drawer was rusted shot but I really wanted to know what was in there. When I got back from taking the first load to the car, he had dragged the toolbox out and finally pulled out the top drawer so we could access the bottom. There was a bunch of 3/4” drive that looked to have been sitting in water for a while. It’ll be interesting to see how much of it will be salvageable after a couple of days in the evaporust.

And managed to get quite a bit of the rust out of the often missing S-K tray.
