Went to use my Craftsman lawn tractor the other day and discovered this. A cracked axle weld at the point where the spindle mounts. I ordered a new axle and spindle mounting kit. Axle should be in today but will have to wait for the spindle kit until Monday.

That's one of the reasons I bought my Cub Cadet at a dealer vs the big box. The dealer models had a forged front axle.

Bought this used craftsman tractor last year. Been running and cutting good until this. New axle came in the mail today, so I'll be replacing the old one this week. Should be good to go after that.

Serviced the wheel bearings. Installed bearing buddies on the trailer. Put on the new tires. Tested all the new lighting. Strung the wiring harness. Made a license plate bracket and light mount. Welded it on. Spent a lot of time drilling holes, tapping threads, popping in grommets, soldering n shrink wrapping wires. This trailer's getting a marine harness. Hopefully it's done tomorrow.

Brought home ANOTHER scrap mower. They also had a push mower engine they were selling.

The riding mower is junk. Seized engine. No deck. But it has a kohler that has the missing linkages and stuff I need for the Ariens *******. $25 for the mower with the parts I need, vs $40 on Amazon. $15 for the push mower engine. Pulls and sounds like it has compression.

But boy, let me tell ya how this went down. Messaged the seller and someone was on their way already. That was LAST weekend. I told them if that person backs out or flaked, let me know. I’ll be there. Wednesday, I got a message that it was still available.

I drive there today, and there’s a KID waiting for me. 10yo boy. “You here for the mower?” “Yeah. You selling the mower?””yeah, it’s back here on the side of the house”.
Followed him to the side of the house (where I had visions of Chris Hanson waiting, while I’m frantically thinking how the EFF could this be mistaken for anything. Is there street code/slang for “mower for sale” that means totally different things to different populations?!?? And ****. I was messaging a middle aged/older woman!! She looked to be in her mid/late 50’s!), and sure enough. There was the mower. In the back of the house, was the engine for the push mower.

Wasn’t going to buy the push mower engine, but for $15, why not. I’ll find a free push mower needing an engine eventually. There HAD been a deck for free a few weeks back, but it’s not on FBM anymore. Oh well.
Now here is where I’m impressed with this kid. I’m talking to his gramma. She has custody. Kids dad and mom are out of the picture. As I’m talking to her, after a few minutes, he walks out with his guitar, her purse, keys to the car, shoes (she was barefoot), and a hair brush. Basically sayin “get ready”.
I’m thinking, he wants to buy a video game or something.
NOPE. Lil man says “harbor freight, tractor supply, and the music store”.
Turns out he wanted to buy a toolbox for his tools. AND he told ME that US General boxes are good boxes!
His gramma said to him that if he wanted something, he’s gotta earn it! The neighbor gave him the riding mower to fiddle with. He turns around and sells it to buy what he really wanted.
That’s just badass right there. AND HE IS TEN YEARS OLD!
I’m bummed though. Had I known he needed a toolbox, I’d have brought him one, so he could keep the cash for something else.
They’re moving, and still have a garage to go through. They took my number, so when the time comes, I’ll head down there and see what else I can buy from them to put some cash in lil dudes pockets!
I don’t know who lil dudes mentor is. It’s a small town. I’m betting one of YOU degenerates are his mentor! How else at 10yo does he see importance in tools and tool organization?!? His dad was briefly in the picture but was an addict and verbally abusive. Now in prison for a while. I doubt he learned it from him(?). Dunno. But. I. Am. Impressed!

I won't say I have never been in Indiana, but I was last there in 1969. No way am I connected with the 10 year old kid who will someday be influential in his community.

Figured as winter should be done by now that it was time to swap the snows off the car. Garage was sweatshirt-cold despite it being 27°C outside, so I left the door open while working cause winters are long!

Next job is to get the batteries for the riding mower on to charge and see if it will start.

Sanded the garage door frames, they're redwood & the paint is failing. Discovered that just had some latex paint on them, no sign of sealer or primer etc. Wood is a bit wet from rain a couple of days ago, they'll get sorted after they dry out.

Cleaned. Not much... Just enough to feel like I did something. Also put a bit more bondo on the gas tank. Having a hard time getting a part of it smooth.

Kay, you are probably way ahead of me on this, but make up a couple of sun shields for the tires on the trailer -they will last a lot longer.

I've spent the last several days moving out old toolboxes to make for my new to me Snap on box, also had to clean all slides and give the rest a deep cleaning. Had to put several bits back together on it also. And then spent the rest if the time organizing and reorganizing the drawers.

This is what it looked like when I got it. I scrubbed, shined, and relined all the drawers then went to organizing.

The boxes it replaced, plus two more that I don't have pictures of.

And in its new home put back together.

Wasn’t gonna do much of anything with the ******* today. I done wore myself out on the yard. But decided to get some wrench therapy in.

The newest scrap mower has more parts to offer than I originally anticipated.

The wiring harness was just about a drop in. I ran it on top though to see if it would work. It does. So now tomorrow after work, I get to run it in the chassis and get it squared away.

Got the linkages and throttle controls swapped over, so now I have control over choke/throttle.

And the most pleasant “surprise” was the exhaust. It’s exhaust sat low in between the frame rails. Which meant that I could reattach the bracketry for the original Ariens hood.

Besides the engine swap and the non factory wiring, I guess without the hood swap, it isn’t much of a ******* anymore. Hmm.

Gave the 07 Explorer it's first bath of the year and pulled it in the garage and waxed it. Don't want it to think we don't love it anymore since we got the 22.

Dragged out the welder n grinders. Did stuff outside. Put them away.
Popped the seats on the Burg, to install the maintainer lead. A couple days outside in the cold did the battery no favors. Put away all my toys.
Prayed to the shop dogs to let my battery live again, so that I can take the Burg to Smallbany tonight.

The Craftsman Lawn Tractor's replacement axle came in the mail along with the spindle sundry kit. Went right to work jacking up the front with one of my motorcycle lifts which worked great and had it all done in an hour. The last pic is of the old, cracked axle where the spindle goes thru.

After that I change the oil and filters. Now I just need to raise up the front of the tractor high enough to get off the blades and either sharpen them or replace them altogether. I'll need to raise it higher than this MC jack will go.

Changed the oil in the rototiller, got out the wheelbarrow and cutters for some yard cleanup, potted up some small berry bushes, and got the mower deck ready to go on the Wheelhorse this week.

Cleaned the pollen/dust off my ‘08 Tacoma using my original California Duster which I’ve had for 25 years. I think I have only washed it once or twice and it still does a great job. 512B992F-C3C0-48B0-8BD6-16C605D2AD0C.jpeg

That is vintage!!! wood handle and all. I still have one from 1998 but plastic handle. Works great.

Mine is newer, but still has a wood handle. The 'fade' is amazing; mine is still so red when compared to this one. They are great for 'dusting' off my wifes' "off season" vehicle. lol

Pulled the deck on the rider to inspect the pulley bearings & belt. Blades seem to be spooling up a bit slower than they used to since the leaf/stall incident last weekend. Everything spins freely. The two idler pulley bearing could use replacing and I will throw a new belt on. That should take care of it.....hopefully.
