I have never researched where the name came from, always thought it was an odd name for them.

My sample of the plastic fender showed up last night, now I can see if the blue color will work with my blue frame on Perk, if it looks terrible, I will probably go with black, they do have a silver color that I should have gotten a sample of, oh well. The material feels rugged, plus they have lifetime warranty on the fenders. When I saw that the company only had two product lines, the other was dumpster lids, I figured that they have to be tough.

The airbags for the Muv-all showed up, but they have the same part number for two style bags, would have been nice to know that before ordering them. Hopefully we can get the other style quickly, I really wanted to deal with those next week. Also will need to replace the shocks for sure, two are rusted quite a bit, the other two look ok, but are still going to get replaced. I had to remove all the bolt on deck covers to get decent access, I think that I would like to make them on a hinge or something, they are a pain to take off and I bet they will be a pain top put back on. Plus they used 5/16" bolts, why??? There are a couple already broken off and some were bent. I feel like a 1/2" countersunk bolt would have been much better to deal with. I also see several braces that were bent, then someone "fixed them by adding angle iron and the steel plate, they were originally wood planks, I actually like the steel better (technically this is where I wanted aluminum), it just needs a bit of a rework. The "new" braces may actually make getting the shocks off a lot more difficult.

For now, I need to see what my pieces and parts for the sandblast cabinet look like, I think I already found another oops, ordered the wrong size on a reducer. I figure I can come up with most everything else local, I just want to see what I will have to get so I can pick it up tomorrow rather than having to get it after the fact. I still haven't had a chance to see if the blue material will work for the fenders on Perk, I am going to make that a priority in the morning.

Back in my Air Force days I had a 1Star General on my plane who actually gave me the time of day. While talking with him I brought up a training problem we had been having for too long. Our discussion allowed me to finally solve it. I'll never forget though when the pilot reduced power, meaning nearing landing the General's demeanor changed completely. The last thing he said to me "I gotta get ready for the gripping and grinning". Same thing as glad handing, all fake.

As for the spit wads and snails I would bet you caught a lot of them and threw them right back. Probably didn't realize it at the time but that was a form of glad handing too.

I am thinking a half inch bolt, so the head is probably over an inch, I could probably get a hex or torx style. The equipment doesn't really run over that are very much, so I suspect it will last longer than a protruding 5/16" bolt head would.

I am messing with the blast cabinet, got to vacuum out the rest of the media so I can get the knock out punch in there. Had to relearn how to use my hydraulic punch, it has been a while and there were some damaged parts, plus parts that don't belong with the kit. I am bringing those parts to the Hill where the rest of the hand operated knock out punch kits are. I also ordered some high strength rod and nuts to add spare parts to the kit. It is a hollow center ram and it can also be used for my exhaust pipe expander kit, I am sure there are other things it will get used for too.

I have all the parts I need to get the siphon blaster working better than stock, all except the hose barb, they came in a two pack and should be here tomorrow. I am contemplating add casters to the cabinet, that would make it better for blasting (increased height) and it would be easy to move around. I just don't know if I should spend the time yet, I could easily space it up on wood blocking for right now, then get my parts done. I think for this round it is more important to get the parts done than it is to make the cabinet perfect. Besides, I will be most likely upgrading the gone and adding a foot pedal soon, so I have to do more reworking later anyways.

Practicing imperfection, more like exposure to failure, that is how my brain perceives it. If you never do it, you can't fail, boy is that a hard one to wrap my head around, but it is one of those irrational things that goes around in my head.

Of course right now I am being out fumbled by the lack of a vacuum, apparently both of them are at the Hill, go figure. I tried blowing the stuff out, just made a big mess, then I tried sweeping it out, not happening. I could probably wash it out with water, but I don't have running water at the SG, plus it would just make a mess. Luckily it is late enough that I can probably safely head home and deal with it tomorrow afternoon. I have a few more things I can do, then I will head home and start over tomorrow, at least tomorrow I don't have a bunch of mundane things to do, so maybe I can get out of the house earlier than the last couple days (I left at 2:00 today). I shouldn't knock my time spent at home the last couple days, it was generally productive, just not in the situations I wanted it to be productive. I will keep trudging forward, I haven't completed my "have to get done" list yet, I am going to shoot for tomorrow.

And some expanded metal, I hope!

That is just out for access purposes. I did actually have it out when I was dealing with the rims, it made it a bit easier, the rim would sit at an angle.

This is exactly right. Everything doesn't have to be done to absolute perfection. Your issue was the blast cabinet not working. Make it work so you can cross off more important jobs. Then whenever you have the time you can do blast cabinet 2.0 and put it on blocks or casters.

I have this same issue. I hate touching projects multiple times. I like to go all out and do everything I want in the first version.

Sadly that is not always the best way since I have very limited time. Therefore, I make a list of projects from most important to least and I do my best to stick to it.

The concept is easy. The execution is hard. Once you can lay out your priorities, it really helps in the moment. It helps keep your mind on the bigger picture and helps you let go of the smaller distractions.

I look forward to seeing these projects moving forward, you've got a lot of cool stuff planned out

I just did this with two projects for the first time and I don't regret it at all. Now there's less pressure to do them properly and I can take my time without feeling stressed.

The blue fender material is one of those close but not close matches, I knew it wouldn’t be the same color, I think I had hoped it would be darker. I also wish I had the silver color sample sent to me. At this point there is an off white (national boom), white cab, blue frame, blue rims (matching frame), black hydraulic tank and hoses, black tires, aluminum fuel tank, stainless steel tool box, and the wrong color blue control box for the remote control on the boom. I am not sure if it matters what color the fenders are, they won’t match anything. I suspect that when I put aluminum rims all around, it will not clash as bad. I think even the black won’t match the tires or hydraulic tank. They have black and silver that would be an option as well.

I am going to test fit the 17.5 trailer rim I bought for the black tilt trailer, it looks like it will be fine, but until I bolt it up, I am not going to be positive. No way am I ordering the rest of them without confirmation, if it fits, then I will have to start worrying about another project. Seems like right now most of the unfinished projects are trailers, at least I am consistent.

The rims fit, but they aren’t as tight as I wanted them to be, I may have to do a bit more research, the way the lug nuts are, I would suspect they keep the wheel from shifting. No one seems to be able to tell me what will fit, the old wheels are stud pilot and no one sells them anymore. The new wheels are hub pilot, on a normal truck wheel they are not interchangeable at all, but the studs are totally different. In this instance the studs are the same bolt pattern and size. As far as I can tell, the hub portion is tight, the stud holes are a little loose, so the rim can turn a bit one way or the other, but I can’t get any perceivable up or down motion. This would hold true for any hub setup since the lug holes are a bit oversized on purpose.

After doing a bit of research, I think they will be fine, these same rims are designed for both 5/8" and 9/16" studs, the hub fits as tight as any of my other aluminum rims, as with any rim, they can get damaged easily with loose lug nuts, so I will just have to make sure to keep them torqued properly, the nut actually says 140 on it, but I have seen 150 as the standard spec for the 5/8" studs. Guess I could keep it at 145. The rest of the rims should be here next week, then I have to get the tires mounted on them, after that it is just a matter of swapping them over. Well, I do have to replace some brakes at the same time, but basically it is an easy job overall, but I still have to shorten the trailer, then it will be much more useful to me. We can deal with that in June........

They are sending me all the color samples for the fenders, so I will wait for those to show up before making any decisions. I think the blue would look decent enough, but I would like to give the silver a chance before I make up my mind, the black just seems to plain to me. I am also looking at two different fender styles, I am leaning towards the open rear, but I haven't totally made up my mind on that yet either.

Well, it won't matter as much now, but when Perk 2.0 hits the shelves, it should be as close to matching as I can get.

Headed out to get some sandblast media, then hit the bank, then swing by the house to pick up the parts that arrived, then I get to go to Home Depot and get a few more odds and ends. The vacuum is loaded in the burb, I have the glad hand seals, the small blow gun, but I have a few other things to grab from the Hill then I will be ready to go. Right up until I forget something, but that is SOP.

I got the garnet, hadn’t bought it for a while, 55 pounds was a bit over $60. I know everything is up in price, but I can buy a yard (3000 pounds+) of just about anything else for less.

I just ate lunch, now I am headed to the bank, then stop at Home Depot to get the rest of my parts. Then on to the SG!

Get the blue fenders. It will be easier to paint to match later when Perk 2.0 is being built. Less bleedthrough problems with the paint.

I'm with Kay and Jim. Who cares for now. Silver won't match anything, but also won't clash with anything. When Perk 2.0 hits, paint it all the way you want, including the fenders.

THe Orphan is similar to your blue on blue, and it bugs the 5hit out of me. If I had to do it again, I'd pick black or silver, since neither color is already on the car.

Black will make the fenders go away, a non issue where it's not given a second thought and completely just a "utility" item. A color will turn it into more of a component of the truck and highlight it - subject to judgment or taste.👍
So two votes for the blue.

I am leaning towards the silver myself, it is more of a gray color and I think it won't clash as bad, the blue fenders would be nice with a white frame. I am not sure I want black, the colors make it feel less like you used a cut up piece of drain pipe for the fenders.

I have been swapping my air fittings over to prevost high flows, I wish I had just gone with them in the first place, the Milton high flow are the same standard, but they wear out so quickly. I have replaced several that were on impacting tools, so they aren't rated for impact use, then I have replaced three of the couplers, they get to the point where it takes two hands and my full force to get them coupled. I use the air tools so limited in comparison to my mechanic buddy, he has had the prevost for years and hasn't replaced one, not even the tool end on his impact tools. I just placed what I hope to be the last order for that style couplers, this should allow me to have both the Hill and the Salvage Garage reworked, I even should have setups for Perk and the portable compressor. The good thing is that the Milton tool ends will work with these couplers, so I can still use those as needed, I will say that the prevost couplers have squeaked out a bit more volume, you can see the size difference, so all my tools are getting new ends just for the extra flow. To give you an idea, my 1/2" line that has a 3/8" NPT end had much larger quick connects on it, the prevost ones are essentially the same size but have higher CFM specs do to the coupler. Later I will upgrade a few tools to even larger ones as needed, but for now these should be fine. If anyone is looking to upgrade to higher flow and easy connection and disconnection, just go with these and be done with it. They are the black body with green push button, I think they are considered 1/4" bodies. They also have 3/8" and 1/2" bodies, but those are for much larger setups, I will eventually need some, but for now the 1/4" are fine.

I want these but it seems they are now discontinued now WAY PRICEY but these would be the best flowing fittings period!
