Hi, I’m installing a misting system for back porch. It has a high pressure pump driven by a 1 hp 120v motor. I’m looking for a remote control switch or outlet to turn on/off the pump. 10,000 outdoor remote plugs on amazon and just looking to shorten my search. Wondering if anyone has experience good or bad with something similar? Thanks in advance!

I don’t have the answer to your question, but I’m in for the specs of your misting system. That’s one hell of a powerful motor to run a residential misting system.
What flow do you need? I assume just a couple of gallons per minute.

Do you need full remote control, or just a timer? If it's a timer, I had good luck with the Woods outdoor timer when I was setting up a Stenner pump system to automate chlorine for my pool.

If you're looking for "remote" on off capability through a phone app, or via Alexa voice commands, I'd look at the "Kasa" branded smart plugs. I have about 10 of them controlling lights throughout the house. I set them for on/off times on the app, and can also activate them with Alexa commands. Not sure if they'll work with the amps your pump will draw though...

We use Wyze outlets inside the house and will be looking to add this outside soon:

We use the app and program to run the schedule on our water heater circulation and on-demand functions for some other devices in the house.

that switch or most of the wifi switch only handle less when it comes to inductive loads... if you click on spec it says only up to max of 1/2 hp motor.

so basically saying for the OP, he'll need to find something that can handle inductive load of 1HP motor or 1000Watt inductive load. Not just blindly trusting the 15AMP spec.

if all else fails find your favorite switch and drive the 120V coil contactor for your needs... 1HP make it rain make it rain :) Dunno , anything personally in the consumer market that does > 1000Watt or 750Watt inductive loads.

Holy smokes. 1hp? How big is the system?
I know, right? I ran a steel cable across my back yard, and hung a 1/2" drip irrigation mainline from it with fogging heads on it, and it works well enough for me off city water pressure.

As for remote control, I have an outdoor outlet on a dedicated circuit that I plug snow melting mats in over the winter. I have it controlled by a relay I installed in my panel:
This is rated for 20A or 1HP @ 120V, which puts it way beyond any of the "smart" relays I've seen out there. I then use a low voltage smart relay to drive the dry contacts.

I like those ultrasonic misting heads better... always wanted to get one of those 12 or 20 head ones for Holloween, but then I hate kids stopping by.

With mist? No. It works to cool off the occupants, if the humidity is below 100%. Or create a jungle theme I suppose.
Never heard of that before. Not much of an issue here I suppose. Have maybe 2 weeks of "hot"... which might be in the upper 70s... maybe touch low 80s

Thanks for replies. I live in Tucson, dry desert and hot. A misting system can make the patio nice for a dinner, etc. Not something to run all the time. I'd feel bad about the water use.

I have to put on jacket when it get's into the 80's. That's winter weather to me. I'm a desert rat.

So I want to be able to turn it on/off when outside easily. Pump is big and needs power so it's around the corner by A/C and fusebox for ease of power + sound isolation. Not easy to walk around and turn on/off at pump - especially after a bottle or so of wine at dinner...

I was looking at aeromist for the system. You can buy stuff ranging from $50 connected to your hose to stuff like what I'm thinking. It's one of those things where I'm thinking the cheap one's will be a constant irritant, dripping, splattering, clogging, etc and the expensive one hurts but hopefully only hurts once and I'll forget about it.

I was wrong on pump - it's a 3/4 hp https://www.aeromist.com/misting-pumps/direct-drive-1000-psi/direct-drive-pump-1-0-gpm-120v.html 1gpm drives about 70ft of misting pipe/misters.

I want on/off from phone or some remote control as want it "on demand". I have alot of Kasa and Wyze remote plugs but not something I think will handle a motor.

If I can't find something which will work (haven't looked very hard yet) I could use a std, low power remote plug like a Wyze, etc. and power a relay, mag starter, or control box like I have on my swamp cooler for garage - but that would be kind of a pain in terms of time/messing with it and much more expensive (though I'm already throwing money at this project, so maybe I should care).

Thanks - I'll check this out!

Commercial systems are often seen at theme parks where people are lined up outside in the sun. Also in grow houses.
Last time I went to a theme park in the US was around 1996 :ROFLMAO: Bush Gardens in Vargina

I would appreciate thoughts on my plan. This is a bit outside my experience.
I want to turn on/off pump from phone as well as automate/set timer on it if desired.

pump will be outside by fuse box, AC, swamp cooler. I’ll add a 20a breaker and a weatherproof box for a plug for the motor. I was looking at this relay to switch on/off the plug.

I already have a muli-wire cable for 24V running from inside house in utility closet to outside at fuse box. (I have a thermostat controlling the swamp cooler driving a relay box outside by cooler/fuse box). There are extra connectors in that cable so I can run a separate 24V per to control the above relay/misting pump. I will use a std indoor plug that I can control from my phone to power on/off a 24v transformer to the relay above.

as for the plug - there are a bunch of options. I have a Philips Hub hub (zigbee) for lights around house so plan to get plug for that system. Then I could tell Alexa or Siri to turn it on or off also…
