Last Fall, I attended an estate sale of a hoarder who frequented garage sales, brought home the stuff, and just packed it randomly in his garage. After he died, his family was stuck with cleaning out the house. They had not sorted through the tools yet, so I told them I was interested in Plomb and P&C tools. The son promised me they would separate out the tools I was interested in.

Last night I noticed they were having another sale, so I showed up a half hour early. The son brought out a box of Plomb and P&C tools, and we settled on a price. The first photo is the wrenches.
You ****!............nuff said............

New to the thread but I've seemingly caught the garage sale-ing (?) bug this year. Today's catch... Add to these a 3½ inch Prentiss Bulldog a similar Columbian, a rusty old tin cabinet with shelves, 2 milk crates of wrenches and misc and of all things 2 suits, 2 sport jackets and a black wool driving coat for $80. Spent the afternoon and evening degreasing and lubing the desk and drawers. Oh and a really really cool chair for the desk.20220523_012819.jpg

I went back to the Books estate sale adn they had more books; as I walked up, my "cashier" from the day before told me she had put out more hunting books... and As I'm looking through the books again she came by, put her arm around my shoulders adn said 'anything you get, its half off!" - Sounded good as I had come back looking for a couple of over priced items! - And no it was not generally"Half off" day...

The books:
Wire Book for my eldest daughter: Cook book could be home or camping:

I thought this photo might be relevant.
Not from a garage sale, a woman's club remembrance.
Purl anyone?
A passed late 80yr lady's hobby.
Supposedly she bent wire up too her passing.

Couple good scores this week end.
Older Toledo well drillers pipe vise for $20.00. Not keen on another stand alone pedestal tool as space is a premium, so threaded it to some thick walled 2x2 for clamping in existing vise.
3 Burner Coleman for $25.00& nice stainless scale for $3.00. 06F05B12-54ED-42EF-8EAD-6F060D3B0DA7.jpegAE1073C9-0873-4AFF-9CBD-450761666FCD.jpegBoth will augment my hombrew operation.E34E07BA-7BEB-450E-96F4-3DF819FE63F9.jpeg

0DBEAD2C-0457-4022-B3C9-90850D6049B3.jpegJake’s Flea this morning netted two Bonney ballpeins and (I think) a Germantown ballpein with a broken handle, plus a pitted but readable No3 steel screw PSW C-clamp, all for $6. I had my hands on a crowntop machinist chest with serious rust, but all the pieces for $20, but let it go. I circled back but the vendor had sold it for $25 to a guy who wanted it for his grandson. That’s better anyway. I’ve got a damaged one I’ve already pulled apart, and it is a chore. Still…
But there is a finite amount of space in my trunk, and I had a reason to reserve it.
Friday night, I carelessly flipped through CL, having had no time to GS for the past few weeks, and spotted a blurry, low-res red time capsule that had had its *** hanging out there for 27 days. I contacted the seller, who said he’d had it in a yard sale for two days. Guys looked it over, suspected it might be a Craftsman, but no one wanted to pony up the $60 asking price, despite all the tools in it. We made an appointment for today, and though I think there was room to negotiate, I am content having paid full price.
I present to you, the mid-century Bonney MB82:

You get a YOU **** as well. All those tools and I'm pretty sure that's a Snap-On compound leverage cutter.

Thanks!
Yes - compound dykes. Have to clean accumulated crud out of them.
Only Taiwan was a twisted-up vise grips knockoff, a couple wrenches and a partial set of 1/4dr sockets. Some decent Japan pliers, but mostly USA.
-V- and =V= Craftsman combos, one C-series socket, a BE or two. One underline DOE, the heritage socket box, which is burgunday not blue. Three Dunlap DBEs, four Cross Country DBEs. Handful of Billings DOEs, a few other old brands. And some paper I teased out from under the bottom drawer. (I have since removed all the drawers for cleaning.) No sign of the torque wrench!

And I didn’t show this earlier, because it wasn’t what I was focused on. A Craftsman cabinet / bench or tool base with one drawer and no doors or shelves. It has four widely-spaced bolt holes punched out of the top. The fasteners, feet, and one odd spot on the right side panel are rusty. Not sure if I have a use for it or not.

EDIT - ha! I found a use. It’s tucked under my cellar stais, with two toolboxes in it and two A/C window units stacked on top. (LesserDaughter2 is currently living in a small apartment with central air.)

I participated in my first online estate sale/auction this week - scored an old craftsman tap and die, 2 max axess sets, a craftsman professional mini drill (had original receipt inside) some proto wrenches, some extractors (craftsman usa) an old wen buffer/polisher and grabbed this mosquito fogger attachment, $175 - most had almost no signs of use- felt like it went well.

Does this mean it was intended to fold over the new skin around the edges? It would be interesting to see a description of that process.
Yes it is. It's has a thin profile to get into tight spaces. I did door skins for years without one of them but they do make a difference.

Compare again - no bends, round head on one end - compared to the door skin hammer:

71Y2OFJwNJL._SL1500_.jpg
I've been doing this for over 20 years. There are many variations of body hammers. His has a head which could resemble a bumping hammer, also known as a donkey **** or horse ****, but they are a heavier/larger size hammer. His is lighter/smaller and is for door skins and has a round face for other metal work.

I’m way behind on posting pick ups from yard sales from the last month. Took a pick of last week’s one sale hit before going camping.
$15 for the works which included a pair of pressure solvent sprayers,
18” Williams 3/8” extension
Herbrand DOE and combo
MAC wood handle flat-blade

Quirky haul (Lugz 2022_28) today, including a W. FRIEDRICHS small adjustable die stock with a crank, unknown early ratchet, a Herbrand double flex-box wrench, Snappy midget spinner, unidentified midget spinner, odd file card, Bernard clippers I don't have in my Schollhorn collection, a very early adjustable bike wrench with a pressed steel frame that I have not identified yet, an Edelmann kit wrench with a 3" rule on the shank, and an empty Heritage era =CRAFTSMAN= DOE wrench rack.

What an odd coincidence. One of those was just listed yesterday on Ebay (not that you would care) but I abandoned any hope of identifying it when I saw it had NO markings on it at all.

I do not recognize what appears to be "A in a diamond" there, but that's a gem. Jan 1904 ????

Lugz, a friend of mine has that exact same Craftsman rack. We are trying to find out the correct stamped (codes) wrenches to put on it. Any help there?

^ That rack had =V= DOE wrenches in it originally, if I am not mistaken. I own a full set, although I believe they're scattered in different places here.

^ I've seen them on ebay.. they are quite the collector item, from what I understand. I believe one of them has been posted here somewhere in the past. :headscrat

(I'm far more intrigued by that little bicycle wrench at the bottom..... possibly Charles E. Andrews of Forestville, CT? (best wild guess at the moment Andrews / C.E. Andrews, Forestville, CT / bicycle wrench, auger bits / patent 264470 Sep 19 1882 Patrick W. Myers and Charles E. Andrews / see also American Bit & Auger Co. / :dunno:

^ That was a few years back and I find that rather puzzling considering what ebay buyers are paying for vintage tools these days.
That notwithstanding, I understand there's a museum somewhere in New Jersey that gladly accepts donations. ;)

I've had/have one listed on ebay for months. Can't hardly give it away, so I'm going to pull the listing and actually... give it away.
Did you try promoting the listing ? I’ve had good luck with that on more obscure items.

While I appreciate the props, I have no interest in collecting =V= wrenches, and I snagged this strictly for flipping.

This one is marked "PATENTED" (un-helpfully) and "2".

I didn't either, and thanks, I was excited to find it. Jan 1, 1901, I think. See my Lugzsonian thread for more.

You should do well on the rack - a while back they were bringing good $$ on Eprey. I've seen numerous of the Craftsman racks pass through GJ one place or another, for both DOE and DBE wrenches. Sadly I have never seen one in the wild.

The short blocky file card is no file card at all. Apparently it is used in the garment industry to fluff up hairy sweaters and the like!

This rack is the most common of all of them but should be around $40. There is an uncommon super tall combo wrench rack that does really well. Also any crown top badge rack does well because they had a short run.

This was likely a stand/cabinet for a Crafstman Radial Arm saw, I dismantled one a few years ago and kept the cabinet. Mine didn't have a drawer but my Craftsman workbench of the same era and design has those drawers. They were modular and you could add drawers, shelves, and doors. Nice find! I use the old cabinet I kept for my AV **** in the shop.

Lugz, assume the item circled in red is your mystery driver. I may well be wrong, but it sure reminds me of the handles used aboard Navy ships for casualty power connections. I'm guessing later WW2/post-war, but stand to be corrected on that.

Stowed near hatches, these handles were inserted in a "biscuit" to hold in pig tails of casualty power electrical cables, to extend power to parts of the ship where it had been knocked out. The pig tails were wrapped a specific way so that they could be inserted in the biscuits the correct place, in the dark. Will try to remember to post pics over the weekend :) Didn't see anything on a quick review of my Bluejacket Manual.

On Thursday there were a couple sales listed that caught my interest, but sadly they both turned out to be busts. Pro-tip, don't put pics of tool boxes in your ad and then decide not to sell them. Irritating, but so it goes. Anyway, I stopped at the Restore on the way back home, and picked up a couple things:
52101978538_1b8a970531_b.jpg
Williams spinner marked Special (I am guessing that due to the odd amber color and markings this was before they started making these a regular item) Dunlap #3, a pair of Lectrolite RP's, and a Western Giant (Herbrand).

You may be right. I thought it was a 9/32-inch drive spinner without a detent, but it's 11/32" diameter.

I almost didn't get out to the flea this morning, with a glance out the window at some dreary weather that has since burned off, but my gleanings (Lugz 2022_29) made me glad I changed my mind!

20220527_085950.jpg

- I have not yet dated the contents of the Carter carb rebuild chest, but the Registered TM symbol under the logo is NET 1946.
- The filet knife sheath is just generic but in good shape.
- The ignition wrench is wartime Williams ALLOY, just because I never pass them up.
- I am hoping the Bonney obstruction wrench is not a dupe. I only have three and they are not at all easy to find.

I plan to have some classic GS thread fun with the OD green pouch. Stay tuned.

Okay, dear quizzlings, put your thinking caps on, because it's Guessing Game Time!

This one is going to go in two (2) rounds - and I am really repressing the urge to leave some clues behind in my verbiage here.

If you get it in Round 1 you are Utterly Amazing.
