Hello and thanks in advance for any help! I'm glad to find this forum of like interest folks :)

I have been looking for a bench vise that is made in USA and came across the below on Craigslist. Good working order and functions smoothly. Thinking I want to clean her up and add a fresh coat of paint. Very curious about any information of the maker. Jaws measure 5". Paid $40 so I'm happy about that part.

Looks like a Wilton to me. Many of that vintage came with a "Wilton" decal that could have come off, hence the missing brand ID. Also, it's been repainted. Good deal for $40 if it's in decent shape and what you wanted.

Thanks and I hope it is a Wilton. Has those “w” marks as well and the missing label area ( I removed the old glue). Cleaning her up now and adding some new paint. Will show when done 👍

Are you keeping us in suspense on the color?
It’s metallic black and drying as I type this. I will finish her this weekend for sure and post it up!

Also I believe that's a Wilton 645 utility vise.
Thank you sir! I will follow that model and compare. Now…for that missing Wilton LABEL….elusive creatures.

Well, here she is. Ready to go back in service on my knife bench 😜

My first ever attempt to restore any thing cast iron. I’m very pleased with her.

That's a fine little vise for home use. Although I'm sorry to tell you that this is how the vise addiction begins. Soon you'll be hauling home early 20th century machinists vises as fast as you can find them posted online.
