Nice find on that sk ratchet! I was unaware they made something like that!

Wow Rainman! is it full?

I didn't do too bad today; 6 planned stops 4-5 TOOs, Some of those worked out - minimal tools though:

This guy listed hunting/fishing/camping - Only thing I got for $11 was a screw driver and this 7 ft bamboo boat rod -turns out it was made from 1940-1950 - its in GREAT shape, and I was stunned to see what a nice one (that still needed a repair) went for on Eprey:

Y1 7 ft Bamboo Pole.jpg Y1 7 ft Bamboo Pole a.jpg

The Driver is in this pic - and the rest was stop 2 - Pewter? soldier, brass locket, brass bell, old EverReady flashlight, vintage 3 in 1 and Craftsman (Crown) oil, and a carabeener.

Y1 Driver Y2 - Oil Bell Clip FL Sold Locket.jpg

Also this plumbers gas fired furnace made into a lamp - I'd been here a couple years ago and they wanted stupid $$ - this time it was $20 - No holes so I may get the thing running.
Y2 Lamp-Plumbers Furnace.jpg

Last item from there was this Glass from an anniversary clock - $2 - I'l use it to cover something in the collection.
The old Solar TI calculator (Works!) was from a TOO - $3

Y2 Glass Y3 Calc & Gauge.jpg

Another TOO - US canteen cup, Buck knife (1974-80 - has "Toro" Lasered in - so probably later), 4 US made General drift punches, a pair of soldering tongs/Heat Sink (Yeah, I know the residue was not flux.. I wire wheeled that off..), Mayhews chisel and a pair of Unistrut roller carriers (I've been looking for these...) and in the next pic, a Craftsman Tool box 9 the larger version - All for $7

Y3 Buck, Punces, Bit US Solder tongs Canteen Cup.jpg

And the last successful TOO; Most of a gallon of SG for a Buck:

Why do I do this?
52119204186_3cbf4c84e8_b.jpg
I was at an estate sale yesterday, and aside from a general lack of good tools, I found this beat up old '80s C-man box full of... Well, rust, to be honest, but at $2, I figured what the heck. And, aside from some rusty G series sockets (most of a metric set!) there really wasn't anything great, other than a Bonney single offset.
You do it to keep Evaporust in business.
Were all the circle x wrenches GMTK correct or just some of them?
Just some of them. Three sizes of the larger ones and three sizes of the shortys. Only username can show a picture of the three shorties.

So I went back out for a few late posters -

And I went back out early afternoon - The Candle lamp I got for the punched metal shade after seeing one last weekend on a Coleman gas table lamp, a mini "leatherman" (Coast), and a well used porcelain coffee pot (I have to stop buying coffee pots, I don't even drink coffee...)

Y5 Shade Mini multi tool coffee pot.jpg

A mini Singer in the box. Unfortunately the plug into the machine (Bakalite) is missing half, and one brass contact.. -Seems operable other than that. $15!

Y6 Singer.jpg

And $6 on Books! the 1945 printing of the first aid book may catch Lugz eye?

Solitaire is from 1939.

It's been a while, the sales around here haven't been very tool friendly and life has been busy with other stuff leaving not a lot of time for tool hoarding! I got out a bit today and also took some pics of stuff I picked up a few weeks ago. Starting with the older stuff first...

A big Plomb driver and a small one along with a Proto phillips and a 3/8" spinner. Then a set of Snap on hex keys and a bit driver. I can't remember how much this stuff was, around 10 bucks maybe?
IMG_4048.jpg

This stuff came out of a random garage sale, the guy said a lot of tools had sold already which made me wish I had gotten there earlier! The SK Wayne box has most of the sockets and some SK Wayne wrenches plus a bunch of other random stuff. Wish I could find the 3/8 SK Wayne ratchet that I know I have floating around somewhere! The little socket set is Craftsman and the wrenches are pretty self explanatory. I think this batch was $20.
IMG_4049.jpg

This stuff came out a moving sale, I thought it was a dead end initially but after chatting with the guy he let me dig through his shed out back. I should have the rest of the stuff to complete the Craftsman set and the Crosman air pistol will hopefully clean up and work once I put new O rings in it. $15 for these two.
IMG_4050.jpg

This pic is a little bittersweet, I got these at an estate sale. The bittersweet part is that this company used to have very reasonable tool prices and it was one of my favorites. I had noticed that in their last couple of sales the tools had gotten really expensive and figured it was just a one off. Not so, turns out they have a new tool guy and now their sales are full of $10 wrenches and $30 ratchets. This sale had a bunch of Snap on and Mac, and I couldn't believe how much everything was! I grabbed these pieces and left a few things behind after he priced them at the register. I went back an hour or two before the end of the sale just to see if all sold, and every bit of it was gone. Good for them getting the best price possible but I'm bummed since the good deals are over. Oh well, at least I won't be burning gas to go to their sales any more!

The vacuum grip pliers are Snap on, the big breaker is Plomb, plus the circle X and a Nicholson rasp for my knife making buddy. $15 for this mostly because the guy didn't recognize any of it, otherwise I'm sure he would have wanted $30.

IMG_4051.jpg

Now to the sales from today, the first few are from a parking lot sale at a local church: The SK Lectrolite DBE's were $5, as was the little Challenger rat. The rest of it was $2 and I couldn't leave it behind even though I need more Craftsman combos like a hole in the head.

IMG_4054.jpg

After the parking lot sale I ran by a garage sale in the same neighborhood and didn't see any tools. However I got this new Husky tool pack for $10 and bag full of fishing lures for $5 which I'm pretty happy about. More cheap spinners and spoons for my kids to lose!

IMG_4047.jpg
IMG_4045.jpg

Next garage sale had this wrench pouch, I mostly wanted the pouch but there were a few decent wrenches in it. The Husky DBE's are a full set and the Barcalo is interesting to me, I haven't seen many this style. I almost left it behind as the guy initially asked $20, but after I did my best grimace he quickly offered $10 and I accepted.

IMG_4052.jpg

Next sale had not much in the way of old tools but they were dumping a bunch of expensive stuff for cheap. Some folks in front of me bought a Vitamix for a song, I grabbed a nearly new Smith MTB helmet for $20, and then asked about the Snap on shop stool. The guy initially said it wasn't for sale but about three minutes later he offered it to me for $20 and I bought it. No more sitting on a bucket to clean tools :ROFLMAO:

IMG_4046.jpg

Final pic is from a flea market a bit north of where I'm at. This is the first time I've bothered to drive up there and I'm glad I did! It's a lot bigger than I was expecting, and I can already tell that I'll be a regular visitor to this one.

The plain finish 1150 DBE I got from a nice old lady for 2 bucks. All of the wrenches below that and the Proto 1/4 rat came from the same vendor. I can't remember how much it was specifically but I think it was a buck a wrench or so and the rat was $5. Finally, the Indestro spinner set was $2. After a long winter of really expensive estate sales I'm really looking forward to garage sales and flea markets again!

Recent Haul....I hadn't been to any sales lately, high gas prices, etc. Chicagoland has tons of sales, but the ones that list 'tools', with tables full of Snap On are always jam packed and I'm not gonna go hours early like I had in the past to be in the first group in the door.

So I've changed my approach to only go to smaller sales that are in older blue collar neighborhoods that only show a box or two of tools and it paid off. But vintage tools are everywhere here, with the large population, lots of vintage tool manufacturers, and past industry. I swear there is an S-K 45170 at every sale I go to.

Sale started a 9am and these goodies were still there at 11:30am when I showed up.

Apparently the rarest of the rares, Craftsman C-98, in great working condition, its not for sale or trade. I'm gonna hang on to it. After researching it, I realize how lucky I was to find it.
Craftsman BE 3/8th Ratchet with great chrome
Stanley WorkMaster Phillips 2 screwdriver
4inch Diamond Adjustable
Power Kraft USA made blades
Craftsman BE Swivel sockets.

Here is my tiny haul for the weekend, a set of dremel type bits in a wooden box, and a nifty strip sandpaper holder. I especially like the reinforced cut off wheels, they seem to last a bit longer.

Seller also had a Reed 105, but I really don't have space to store any more big vises right now.

Wow, that ratchet’s in amazing shape. Congrats on the find Oak, probably a GS thread first. I call it a You ****! no matter what, but man I’d love to know what they priced it at.
Tell us it was only a dollar or something.

Saukit, there is quite a following on those Crosman air pistols online. People change out the stocks, the breech, barrels, you name it! A great place to start is Gateway to Airguns

Also, nice find on the Industro set.
Thanks Beemer! That link will be very helpful, I've never even taken one of these apart.

Had pretty good luck yesterday.

First stop, I picked up a 24" and 18" Ridgid, and a 14" Craftsman pipe wrenches. Paid $6. And $1 for these unknown branded electrcian crimper/cutters. I think the Ridgids will make good restoration candidates.
20220604_234519.jpg
20220604_234528.jpg
Second stop I picked up this new in sealed box benchtop parts washer for $20.
20220604_234534.jpg
And this set of USA made MAC combo wrenches minus the 7/8" for $5.
20220604_234612.jpg
Third stop I picked up a box of taps and dies for $2, and a battery load tester for $3.
20220604_234540.jpg
20220604_234531.jpg
At the last yardsale I bought a room AC unit but don't have any pictures. Works great and is practically new, still in the plastic.

Be careful, and be sure to have the exploded-view diagram in front of you.
I disassembled a Crosman air rifle with NO clue as to the "how" part, and ended up putting the entire mess into the trash can.

(This is NOT to suggest that you are as incompetent as I am when it comes to all things mechanical.) ;)

Like our founder, I too haven't posted in a while. However, today I finally found a promising nearby estate sale and some free time to go picking. This was near closing time on the second and last day of a loaded property with tons of stuff saved over a lifetime, it seemed. By the time I got there, much was gone. I picked through the remaining detritus and came away with the following for a fiver:

IMG_20220605_151409.jpg

30-ft Stanley tape measure
Crowntop Craftsman 9-6677 drill grinding attachment
3 Lutz threaded file handles
Marco SL2 snap lock crimpers
Craftsman DBE, wounded but a =V= era nonetheless

Yesterday, MrsLS and I were involved with pressing home-maintenance projects, and missed out on more than a dozen promising neighborhood garage sales. Bummer.
4CAF6393-9721-47B8-B875-A00046CAC698.jpeg
So today at Jake’s Flea Market I was a little too eager early on, blowing through $30 with barely a thought, but managed to reign it in before emptying my wallet. That brought home an OD Union Mfg box for socket set, Stanley hardware for possible project, Bonney 4093 1/2dr rat, 4016 1/2dr 6pt socket, 553AS DOE, Zenel 3425 tappet wrench, underline C’man No3 tappet wrench, C’man embedded diamonds duckbill pliers, Utica No1-7 battery pliers, UDF&TCorp 41-6 dikes, Vacuum-Grip end nippers (too rusted to see branding yet, but I think not S-O), Red Devil Union NJ PI 1-1/4 S putty knife, 2boxes single edge Red Devil blades, 2 sm drawer pulls, 8 flex-shaft nut drivers.
The last were under discussion when I got to the vendor’s table. He was telling another shopper he couldn’t see the manufacturer on them. When they moved on to other items, I unobtrusively gave them a good look, finding Pat.Pend. on the ferrules and DURO-[CHROME?] No4587 on the bakelite grip of the 1/2”. Sizes are 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 11/32, 3/8, 1/2, with an extra 11/32 & 3/8.
EDIT - found them in the Duro 39M catalog. These are DuroGrip Spin-Flex drivers, missing 7/16 & 9/16.
DACA3B11-7EBB-4530-827A-417E17FD5C5A.jpegMrsLS bought a couple tool-oriented coffee mugs.

5C02C10D-B071-4E9B-B3D2-54FBBFCF85B9.jpegE880BA63-77EE-4CD9-90DE-0D96C0A2684D.jpegEDIT2 - Neither side of the end nippers has “VacuumGrip” on it, but both have “Forged Steel Products Newport PA USA.” No “Snap-on” or date code, either. Since it is a bit loose anyway, I’m going to take the rivet out, clean them up, and reassemble.
