I've been out of touch for the last few days. Sorry if I missed any commentary or questions. It's been three pages since my last post.

Yesterday, I serviced my sister's boat. It was a speed job so no pictures or videos. Completed the following: de-winterized the engine, AC and water system, changed the engine oil , replaced the fuel water separator filter, installed two batteries (one new & one used), replaced the water pump impeller in the lower unit.

The few days prior I was testing and installing some rubber mulch around my daughter's new playset. Nuscape rubber 'nuggets'. They are made from used tires. So far I'm super impressed. I need to save up some more money to complete the entire play area. It's a little pricey, but affordable. If that makes sense.

Well, this one was a long time coming.

Went out to the garage and gathered my tools. Milwaukee fuel impact, fuel drill, fuel circ saw, fuel sawzall, and Milwaukee hole dozer hole saw kit, rigid shop vac and my inspection camera.

When I bought the place in 2019, I had a brand new hvac system installed. And this part in the floor was always warm with the heater on. I intended to fix this way back then, as evidenced by the missing linoleum. I was hoping for a patch job (panel cut to fit the hole, framed out for something to anchor to) but no such luck. The whole panel had been replaced. I’m guessing that since the previous owners used the wood burning stove and not the furnace, he covered the vent to keep the bathroom air tight, and used a space heater as I was doing.

So, I grabbed the inspection camera, then pushed it through another vent on the other side of the wall. The camera wasn’t “quite” long enough, so I guesstimated the distance.

Through some precisely misplaced exploratory holes, I found the edge of the hole in the ductwork. Measured it out, used the hole saw for the corners, circ saw for the long cuts, sawzall for the short cuts.

Now have heat and AC in the bathroom, and one less giant duct leak pumping climate controlled air under the house. Still have ductwork leaks that’ll be addressed this spring/summer/fall.

It’s the little things lol

Moved the trailer out of the carport to make room for the travel trailer we're picking up tomorrow.

Then I took down the paint booth. Next time I use it I might need to add another set of vertical supports. The 1.5" pvc was pretty bowed on the long side.

Then I spent the next 5 hours with 1000 grit sanding out the orange peel on the motorcycle parts.

Next will be 1500, then 2000, then buffing and polishing.

Wife walked in while I was working on the last part and asked why they weren't shiny anymore, so I had to explain to her what I was doing.

I'm sure cutting in the parts wouldn't take so long if I was better at putting down paint more smoothly. I need to go get a bumper or something to practice with.

You can see my sanding bench in the background. I have a spotlight in using to help see rough spots.

Spent most of the morning in the attic of the detached garage - much like yesterday - but today was to run the permanent wiring for the GDO remote receiver and get both openers attached. I got all of the attic work done by noon but it was 99 up there by then so I'm waiting till later this evening to clean up the mess I made and reattach some OSB pieces I had to remove to run the wiring. I have the whole house fan running on high and it's already down to 90 so it won't take long.
Two additional LiftMaster remotes were delivered this afternoon so I have them programmed to the remote receiver as well as the GDO in the attached garage. It is nice to have one remote now that will operate the two different openers in the garages as well as not being affected at all by the LED lighting in the detached garage.

Pulled the boat out and drained 16 gallons of 2-year old gas into containers to burn in the mower. Then swept and blew out the dust with the leaf blower. Then I made some hangers for the universal attachments I bought for the Dewalt string trimmer. The O.D. of the attachments was exactly 1", so I used some 1" SCH 40 steel pipe and some 3/16" rod from an old trellis. Drilled a 1/4" hole for the detent, countersunk it, then widened it a little more with a 1/2" ball burr chucked in the drill press so I could release it with my thumb. Came out OK. I need to make a couple more for the other attachments.

I was able to drill holes and put bolts through them to bolt my new Honda engine on ti's mounting board. The first attempt was an embarrassment because I failed to allow for the blower housing overhang. I worked until I felt tired and my hands began to shake. I sat for while, drank some water and ate a light snack.

Somebody backed into the kid's PT at work, breaking the taillight. It flopped out while he was running an errand this evening.
5 minutes ago, plastic welded it back together so he can still drive and wait for a couple new ones from Crapazon.
Did you know that the not-quite-PVC, they make composite deck spindles out of, welds really good to abs, pp and pvc?

Started sharpening chisels, but decided it can wait for another day as my bench stool spar varnish is still sticky from yesterday. It will need sanding & more coats, so chisel sorting will likely resume about two weeks from now when I can sit down at the bench.

The lower right drawer of my main toolbox has been a repository of bike parts for many years, in fact the stock ZRX11 cams were in there from when I fitted the ZX11 cams back in '00, several parts from the '05 wreck etc & many new parts.
Today I emptied out & put all the Kaw stuff in this (new parts soon to be fitted):

And this (mostly old stock parts):

IMG_20220605_181000841.jpg

Which allowed me to put these four cases in there instead (Capri Torx set, Capri hex set, HF lug nut sockets & GW O2 sensor etc socket set)

I assembled a NOS Harbor Freight pressurized sand blaster that I bought off of FB marketplace.

It's all together, but I need to find a drain fitting for the water seperator. Any leads/suggestions are appreciated 😊20220605_190945.jpg

** 6-Jun update: I had another filter/dryer sitting in one of my toolchests and I rigged that up to the blaster, instead. I was not able to find a source for only the drain valve, despite some time spent searching.

Went out after dinner and finished sanding and buffing the air cleaner for the motorcycle. After all the work I did this weekend on these parts, I felt the need to 'finish' at least one.

There's still a few swirl marks in the finish. I may go back after those after I get all the parts mounted on the bike. It's easier to buff some of these parts after they've been installed as they tend to be hard to hold while buffing.

Started off trying to use my little 3" buffer, but decided quickly it'd be easier to do it by hand.

More of a 'to' the garage -
This evening I finally got around to mounting a 24" smart TV on a moving swingarm in a temp location. After I get the storeroom built it will move to the new wall to the right end of the hobby bench, which will effectively put it in the corner of my 'workshop' area in our 3-car attached garage.
For now it is connected via wifi, lot of free streaming, Amazon Prime and it also has a USB port, to which I can plug a thumb drive with several favorite moves.
I even found our AppleTV device, missing for 18mos since we moved, amazingly enough in a box with 'Apple TV' written on it. So I could attach it and be able to stream 800+ movies which I previously digitized and put in my iTunes library on my PC. So I can play my fav movies as background noise while I toil on furniture building etc in the garage.

Finally finished up this project. We wanted to upgrade our on-deck herb garden from some little window boxes I had slapped together a few years ago. I happened to have some salvaged deck boards in the pile so I fired them through the planer and put together this little ditty. The box is about 2' x 2' and 10" deep. I left some room between the bottom slats and threw in some dollar store weed barrier to let excess water run out while keeping the dirt in.

I called Geni Garage Door Opener Customer Service and described the symptoms of my GDO and what I have done to try to fix my problem. They are sending me a new motor control board and will dispatch a technician to install it. The garage door opener was purchased from Home Depot and has been in service for about 20 years. I had Home Depot’s contractor install it for, if I recall correctly, $50 and it came with a Lifetime Warranty on both Parts & Labor, those Geni folks have been nice to deal with. Because of my past experiences with their products and service they are the preferred opener for my rentals.

Parked a travel trailer under the carport... Or what would fit at least.

Then shared some butterscotch beer with the son (non-alcoholic)

I am assuming there is a story behind why you took a torch to a plastic drain pan.
There's always a story....I didn't actually use the torch on the drain pan. I dripped hot sparks and metal slag into it. It was poor planning on my part 🙄. I should pick up a tin one like Kay suggested!

I put this nice little ride in the garage is what I did. Present for my wife this spring……winter storms prevented me picking it up in April so in early May I drove to Manitoba and finished the deal. 69 Dart, fuel injected 318 from a 95 with the overdrive auto. Custom interior….pearl white with pink accents, sure grip and mini tub. Perfect car for her. Good from far but far from good.

Kind of a combination of "in my garage" and "at a buddy's garage" yesterday: I ground down the old welds from a previous owner's repair to a tow-behind TracVac frame, and then took it to my friend's house to get re-welded. Next steps are to blast it clean, prime it and then paint it black.

Ok I will bite - what does the tool do and how is it used?
It's a smaller version of a stair tread jig. Patterns a not square space for fitting, in my case, a shelf. This space is so far out of square that the back measure is 16.5in and 17in at front. But both walls from back are not square in opposite angles that it would need 16.25 shelf if cut square... Leaving huge gaps on the sides.

Bought a Troy Bilt rototiller at a garage sale over the weekend. Today I finally got around to freeing up the one wheel that was stuck on the shaft. Cleaned and greased the shaft, changed the oil, checked the gear oil, new spark plug, and new air filter. Ready to go.

Hooked up our range to my compressor outlet since our kitchen is dysfunctional during remodel. Yes 4-wire feed 50A to range. I went GJ overkill on the compressor rough so it was just enough.

Oil/filter (& THREE O-rings) change on the ST.

Installed a doodad to make the next change easier....

Sliced a finger open on the edge of that goddamn cross-member.

There are three different types of fastener that secure the cover that hides all the gubbins.. WTF Ford?? Could probably shave 25lb off the weight if I took a grinder to all the weld spatter on the front & rear subframes.

Broke out the plasma cutter to cut some 1/4" plate into 3 1/2" wide strips. But the plastic air regulator had air blowing out of the back of the housing, so I had to bypass the internal regulator and use an external regulator left over from my old air piping. Spent an hour hunting fittings and getting it installed, then tested and it works fine now. Then the ******** my cutting goggles was all stretched due to the heat and hanging it by the strap. So I begged some 1/2" wide elastic from my wife to make a new head strap. Got everything fixed and cut the strips, then ground the edges smooth.
20220607_175912.jpg20220607_175906.jpg20220607_175839.jpg

EDIT: Here's how much the original strap had stretched. It was no longer elastic. I won't be hanging these from now on.

Pulled out a whole bunch of cement cutting tools in an attempt to beat the rain. Left everything I didn't use on the floor with the rest of the mess. I really need to clean up.

You know, a few months back you could have bought that from Woodpecker's for a measly $300!!
