I bought a set of these for my trailer's toolbox a long time ago and they work well. Just picked up a new toolbox for the shop and am looking to buy something similar. Figured I'd ask if anybody had any suggestions before I ordered.

These work pretty well if you have the room for them. Craftsman socket organizer set, 1/4 through 1/2 sae and metric. Easy to see what you're looking for even for those needing glasses with 1/4 lenses. Only issue with them is they're designed for 6 and 12 point instead of shallow and deep and need some modification for some brands of sockets if they're a bit bigger than Craftsman.

Those tyoe of holders probably hold more sockets in more boxes than any other socket holders in the world.
Perfectly satisfactory
But usa made if you can...just because
Mac and Snap-on's are USA and there are others too.

The only thing I don't like is that they take up a bunch of extra room! I've got some odd sized sockets, so they may or may not fit.

The thing is the smaller the footprint the more bland they are.
If you dont care about such ok...but if you look at the mumber identification those arent for you.
Im talking about the flat magnetic boards you can hold all drives together on one board.

Cornwell has flat magnetic trays that are really neat (finding a driver to buy from is the hard part)

The Hanson trays and similar work so long as you have the space, height for the tall pegged/vertical deep sockets ones and so on.

I have the same Hansen rails as pictured in the link you listed. Hands down the best way to organize sockets IMO. HF has a set you can get for pretty cheap if you're on a budget.

I have a couple sockets that don't fit on the hansen/HF rails, I haven't tried the OEM ones.
I really like the VIM magrails, but they have doubled in price since I got mine.

That Cornwell tray is really cool!
I'm kinda torn on trays like that. I have a few of them, and it's nice to grab the rail while you're working on something. But I get annoyed when I have to take a socket on and off. But, at the same time...I guess it saves me a trip to the toolbox.

I use rails. Can grab the whole thing and not play the 48.12 trips to the toolbox and back game. Real fun when working outside 1000ft away. Usually end up grabbing a few metric adjustable crescent hammers at that point.

Ernst rails all the way! They take up less space and you can configure them however you like. 
Another vote for Ernst! Did a lot of research and found many recommendations here on Garage Journal. You can mix and match any drive size on the same rail. 1/4",3/8",1/2",3/4" and 1". Reconfigure at anytime and any size socket fits as the pegs slide along the rail.
Just a very well thought out design compared to the hole version or the pin versions with all the wasted spaces.

I just painted some hardboard white and bolted down three HD rails. I used t-nuts with the prongs flattened for the nuts on the bottom.
