I broke the cable on basement garage door
Off to horrible freight for some wire rope
Cancel horrible freight, $10 for wire rope
Need heavier springs since I have insulated door to the max.
120# spring set with cable $25 at lowes.
Spring set installed and I'm still alive.
Easy, 20min job

What? Nobody uses propane down the hole and an ignition coil? Gets the gopher and plows the garden at the same time. Your results may vary.

A local exterminator covers new holes with a weighted plate connected to the exhaust of a small engine, the Carbon Monoxide gets them. A little oil fed into the engines air intake helps identify other tunnel openings.

Heads back from the machine shop, started reassembly.

Came to a parts stopage due to FelPro packaginf 2 individual intake runner gaskets instead of 2 siamesed intake manifold gaskets.

I had 2 of these...

Thats why you don't use customer supplied parts. (or FelPro)

I didn't see any activity last year, but I found 2 mole hills the last time I mowed. Looks like I've got a new pasttime.

Thanks for the tips.
Again - you don't have to devote hours watching - just go out every hour or so and spend 5 to 10 minutes watching the ends of the runs. If they are feeding - you will see them. If they aren't - come back later. No need to spend hours watching and waiting.
Some people claim that noise will cause them to hide. One time I was mowing and found a new tunnel - I ran over it and continued mowing. On the next pass, it was back up and moving. I backed the mower up - put the throttle at idle, and went back to the shed and grabbed the shovel. Came back - watched it move a few more times - and dispatched it.

Lost power yesterday afternoon/evening.

Luckily in the garage I had a couple charged car batteries and an inverter. Was enough to run the router so I had internet.

Last year or so I bought this adapter for the Milwaukee batteries. Has a single USB port and an older style round pin plug on the other side. I have like 10 Milwaukee batteries, mostly 8.0 and 5.0 but they are sufficient to keep a phone charged as long as you’re not using the phone. Plug it in and forget about it. Let it charge.

Helps to get through a power outage.

Attached our old weather vane to the new weather vane stand we bought the other day. Had to lightly sand off some rust and paint from the bottom of the old weather vanes pole so it could slide into the new stands pipe.

My modem and router are 12V DC, no inverter needed. Jump pack or car bat is all that's needed and the correct size barrel connectors to alligator clips or lighter power plug. More efficient if you are down for long periods and no generator to fuel up/run for just those items.

I’m not there just yet.

I may have connectors and parts laying around I could make something like that work, but the quickest and easiest in the moment was the inverter setup.

Thank you for the ideas though!

Two coats of sealer on the floor. Started prep on Sunday with a washout, Monday was a day of fans to dry, last night I blew out all the bugs and dust. First coat cut in and rolled before 8 AM today, 85* already. Waited 4 hours and rolled on the second coat. I think I have a buzz from that stinkin stuff.

Measured a shaft I want to put a pulley on, the measured diameter is 0.672"
Determined that a 47/64" drill bit should make an appropriate sized hole in an existing pulley; ordered the drill bit.

I have a smaller UPS like you use for a computer on my network gear. One outage was >6 hours and a 450VA UPS carried me through.

The real issue is will the Internet provider Co. gear stay up for a large outage (or cell towers for that matter)

The old LL phone companies were big on battery power and keep them charged. then new stuff, not so much...

For the "Personal devices" (USB) I have two solar charged battery setups I made for hunting/camping, and could set those up for a really long outage...

Stuck the replacement exhaust gaskets in the ZRX cylinder head using some painters caulk. Any sticky goop will do the job until the headers are fitted & tightened down.
Trying to remember how I hung the headers before, think I laid next to the bike & kinda supported the collector part with a leg.

Got ambitious...
Remembered I used some wood to support the collector while I got the headers in the ports & the clamps aligned/tightened....

AFTER I was already laying on the floor & had 1 1/2 header nuts on the studs, luckily that was enough to support the system while I grabbed some wood from across the garage & got the other 5 nuts on the studs.

IMG_20220614_201641646.jpg

Decided before hanging it on the bike to fire up the bench buffer & sort the lower/front of the header pipes where they had some sand damage. Bizarre thing happened... Garage is carpeted, I wasn't wearing any shoes, just socks... got static shocks through the bottom of my feet into the carpet.

Header nuts all tight on the studs, will snug them down in the morning, then tighten the rear mount by the PAX foot peg & fire it up.

IMG_20220614_202231548.jpg

Front of the engine etc is now looking rather spiffy... which was the entire reason for pulling the pipes in the first place. You can see the spot where I welded up a hole in the cases several years ago.

I've used a bungee cord or two to support the exhaust while I'm fiddling with the bolts.

With your attention to detail I just can’t believe you didn’t paint over the weld.

My ten year old harbor freight damaged compressor gave up yesterday with the motor seizing up. The legs on that old compressor were all twisted like pretzels but the price was right as I got it for $149.00 back then. I just used chunks of metal to level the thing out and used it as is until yesterday. I knew the compressor was on its last legs and knew I just go and get a new one from HF when it went. Today I picked up a new one. I was able to wrangle a 10% off the price.

I do not need anything larger as I have transitioned to battery operated equipment and this one will do the job for anything I mainly need compressed air for.

After I got the compressor slide in I then serviced the my 2004 Dodge Ram with all the fluids except the anti-freeze as I replaced the anti-freeze last year when I did the water pump and thermostat. Sorry no pictures as I was motivate to get the fluid change done so the Ram has fresh oil in the engine, ATF in the transmission and the recommended gear oil in the diffs and transfer case. I also did a complete under vehicle inspection and tire rotation and checking the brakes, the brakes are good at around 90% on the fronts and 95% on the rears.

Last day off for 10 days, raining outside so I guess after errands and loading up the beer/energy drink fridge, I shall get back on the ATV. Hope this new starter fixes my starting issue. Old one is kinda crusty…..

note for self, if it is the starter, buy a spare for annual maintenance, what’s a whopping 70$!?

Had a small project for which I required to drill a hole length wise through a 2.5 inch section of a broomstick. As my lathe does not have a tailstock, I made an adapter to hold a drill chuck that fits on to the cross slide.

Edit: Not 2.5 but 4 inch long broom stick

Did some mowing around the pole barn. Got almost “done” with what I wanted to get done, when the mower went CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK.

Checked it out in the field and found nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled it in the pole barn, pulled the deck, and found this. What are the effing chances?!?!?!!!

That’s ok. I’ve been wanting to pull the deck to wash it out and swap to the mulching blades/mulching kit. That way I can weld up the other deck. Getting tired of these big windrows. I’m hoping the mulching kit helps. I know it will, but still…

The mulching kit/mulching blades on mine are a world of difference versus the high lift blades. Doesn’t look like I’m trying to bail hay anymore.

That’s what I’ve noticed.

I have 2 decks for this mower (actually, have 2 identical mowers). One has the mulching kit and one has the side discharge.

Depending on if I’m clearing overgrown brush or mowing depends on the deck I use. If mowing, mulching deck. If clearing overgrowth, side discharge (mulching deck clogs), then go over it with the mulching kit when mowing.

But a weld cracked on the mulching deck and I haven’t been up to fixing it just yet. So I’m gonna just swap the mulching kit over to the “good” deck.

What a pain lol

Subaru engine back together and in Yesterday.

Filled with oil and coolant, performed 3x 30 sec cranks (over 90 minutes) w/o fuel pump fuse to prime oil system while waiting for Owner parts delivery today. Owner finally dropped off exhaust flange gasket which was the last piece. Installed Exhaust midpipe, fuel pump fuse, primed fuel rail and lit it off.

Fired right up (as I expected) but a pretty high idle, which the computer quickly tamed. Should have caught the clue but I cleaned the throttle body while it was off and thought that was it. Noticed a rough idle, picked up a #4 misfire.
Didn't have a misfire when I bought it in, but I figured what the heck, 181k and fresh plugs, maybe it dropped a coil. They're easy, so I swapped #2 & #4. Misfire stayed at #4, Idle getting lower and misfire getting worse. Really seems like a vacuum leak, hope those FelPro Intake Gaskets aren't gonna bite me. Blasted the throttle body and intake manifold base(es) with carb clean, no rise in idle.
At this point it dies, I look at data and fuel trim is +35. Gotta be a vacuum leak.

Oh jeez, while filling the radiator I noticed a very clean plastic port on the intake manifold, right above #4. I told myself 'remember to plug the brake booster in'. Of course myself didn't listen. Plugged it in and fired it up, smooth as a 4cyl boxer can be.

Heat cycled it and rechecked fluids, everything is looking good.
Ran it again up to temp to watch the fans, they didn't kick on until 205. Manual says low comes on at 203, thats pretty close.
I continue watching, high finally kicks on at 212. Supposed to come on at 207, but it holds 213 as long as I wanted to watch it, so I shut it off.

I'll test drive it in the morning, then talk to the owner to see if they want a full AC recharge or just put the 1/2# of refrigerant back in that came out. Of course 'It was working fine'. They ate a snowbank last winter and are lucky the AC works at all. Neglecting the crunched radiator cost them head gaskets.

Yeah that sounds like more trouble than welding the dedicated deck up. At least you have options though
