I just had my 24x30x12 metal building insulated with 3-4" of open cell on the walls and 5-6" of open cell on the roof. This building is going to be a woodshop. I live in deep south texas, basically at the border. There's also a 10x10 roll up door which is not insulated but I will put refeictive lining to help keep heat out even though its in the shade 90% of the day and faces north. I need help figuring out what size minisplit to buy. The peak of the roof is about 15ft. Also where should I position the head of the unit? I'll include some pics. Thanks!

my shop is 24x36 with 14ft peak. Insulation is whole building wrapped in double bubble radiant barrier, I put up 4" Vinyl on the roof and framed out the walls with 2x4 and r13 craft faced insulation and 1/2' sheet rock. I have 24k BTU Mini Split. Cools the shop down fine on Hot days. I dont keep it running all the time, only when I am working on things. The heat pump portion is ok during the winter but I run a propane bullet heater for 20 minutes to get it comfortable out here and maintain with the Mini SPlit.

IMHO, you will need 2 air handlers. If you want to stay cool and dry on those hot, humid days, buy two complete systems.

You don't need two systems. One MrCool 18-24000 will cool you just tine. Mine is 30x40x12 with 6/12 pitch, 22 feet tall, with 7 3x5 windows and 12x12 door. Roll insulation with double on the roof. A 36k MrCool has turned out to be a bit of overkill.

So you have a 36K MrCool...is it a single unit or do you have multiple zones or just one? Pictures?

single head unit, mounted at the midpoint of the 40 foot wall in a 30x40. It's mounted 9 feet off the floor. I allow the air above the unit to stratify, leaving the heat up in my loft. It keeps the building very comfortable. The first 2 days after install it ran pretty hard (July) cooling down all the cast iron machines and slab, and sucked a ton of water out of the building. After that it just idles along even on 100 degree days. In the winter I will run a simple box fan upstairs to push the heat down when I'm in there. My walls are 12' but with my roof pitch its 22 feet to the peak.

Oh my God that Jointer is awesome. Love the I beam winch too. Appreciate the feedback!

That hoist on a trolley is the single best thing I did when I had the shop built. One ton lift capacity engineered into the building and travels from the main door all the way to the back of the loft. Jointer is a 16" Northfield patternmaker build in 1942.
