I paid $30 for this gerstner

Saw this on the old marketplace and sent a message. He asked $100, I offered $30, he agreed in the end and I sent him a PayPal. I'll pick it up this weekend. Gonna be some amount of project.

Once I see it in person I'll decide if it's a glue and clamp or if I'll have to have new pieces made. I'm hoping for a glue and clamp.

I think so too. I have an old chest like this already that's probably a Union, but doesn't match any of their models. I use it at work. This one may stay home. Not sure yet.

I bet you can glue it. just make sure there aren't any splinters of wood that are going to obstruct a tight glue up

Nice walnut Gerstner. Should clean up nicely. Some glue and clamps, little sanding and finish, new felt and you have yourself a great old box. Could be a "you ****". Let us see how you come out.

It looks like the screws did more damage than any thing else. Remove them and glue away. $30.00 = great deal.

I looked there but agree, I couldn't find it so I assume it's new. Smells like 90's or early 2000's to me.

What will you repair the holes the screws were drilled into? I assume those were installed to hold the frame together after it was damaged?

Get a plug cutter like these. That way you won't have end grain looking at you, that you get if you use the ready made types (dowels).

Those screws are original, so no need to hide them. They weren't used on all their boxes, but mine (cherry wood) has them.
