Today’s modification to the paper towel holder.

A piece of leftover 1/4” rod from something. Welded in to a T , then bent to shape in my bench vice. Brackets from scrap sheet metal, hammered in to shape. Should keep the breeze from unrolling the roll, I hope.

Love the paper towel holder. Great idea and work.

Oil/filter change on the ZX11, detailed the right side of the engine a bit, sorted the wobbly muffler issue by making a shim for the right/rear peg bracket/muffer mount by sacrificing a (green obviously) plastic cutting board from the kitchen. Gassed it up ($27 for a ******** bike!!). Sorted the front brake issue which I thought was down to it needing bleeding, turned out the previous owner had the lever set up differently to my ZRX. Set the adjuster the same as the ZRX & all is good.

Only had one (bodywork) bolt left over. Not only can't I see where it came from, but the side I had off is the same as the other side. No extra holes. I have a feeling it may have fell out from inside the fairing when I removed it. I did find a spot on the other side that needs looking at with regards to fasteners. Will look at that today.
Still need to clean the crappy looking wheels.

Turned the license plate bracket up the other way, now the angle of the plate matches the fender angle... which I'm sure is how it's meant to be.

IMG_20220630_141155597.jpg

Swapped out the oil drain bolt for a stainless one with a magnet.

Yesterday was kind of boring and interesting somewhat lol. Not really much going on or scheduled yesterday or today. Yesterday done tons of state inspections with other state inspectors as I can’t do them on my own cause I can’t write the sticker quite yet. When we got to work yesterday morning the bosses gathered us in a circle then began going on about the tool trucks. Now each tech is limited to 15 minutes on the tool truck one time per visit and only two people from the shop at a time. They said you can’t be gone on there when we need you here. I didn’t say anything I’m just like I’ll do what I do if it takes me more than 15 minutes then I’ll tell them like I have before I need tools to do my job with and where I pretty much provide for my newbies then I need extra time. The problem is all the hourly oil guys were disappearing for 1 or more hours at a time and cars would pile up with waiting customers. They also need to understand sometimes their is a line or a problem and you can’t be on or off in 15 minutes or less.

Then there was one of our rental cars towed in off the interstate. It’s been missing for a week. The state police called us saying there is a maroon Kia Optima registered to this dealership sitting on the side of exit 1 on Interstate 77 in Lamsburg Virginia. It’s been sitting there a week is what they said. The renter rented it for a week and never returned it. That was 2 weeks ago. My dealership sent our tow truck to go get it and it was still full of belongings and the keys were in it. Tried calling the customer who still hadn’t picked their car up that they were having worked on and the number said it was no longer in service so the whole thing is a mystery. The state police took the things out of the car there was nothing suspicious in there and no identification or anything either mainly just clothes and travel stuff and trash and personal things. They towed the car in, the car was searched and then brought to me to check it over for any signs of mechanical failure. The tracking device was dead on it. That does happen the batteries die and probably where it was sitting there a week made the batteries in the device die. I do hope the people come get their car and pay for the rental for the other week that it sat. That was a good 50 or 60 miles from my dealership. We are right off of Interstate 81 and Interstate 77 meets and interchanges about 50 miles from my dealership. One way takes you to 77 towards West Virginia and then the other way keeps you on 81 south going towards Bristol Virginia.

Today same. Nothing to do which is ok with me haha. Done a couple things but not much.

Well, yesterday on the way to work, the exhaust on my Dakota decided to yeet itself into the driveshaft. Yes Muncie roads are ****. So got that pulled yesterday. I was going to try and find a way to reattach it, but the rest is too rusty. A new muffler is needed.

So, not to be defeated today, I decided to look into the reason my kitchen sink faucet was spraying every which way but down.

Pulled it apart and soaked it in some CLR for a few minutes. Got it back together and voila! It sprays straight down again, and the “spray” portion doesn’t go everywhere again. Please ignore the disgusting kitchen sink. I’ve been occupied doing other things. I haven’t had a chance to really scrub it.

Taking a break for now, as this humidity is definitely letting me know it’s there lmao.

What are the requirements to get a insp license in Va?
When I got my Pa safety back in the 70'sI believe it was 9 classes(3 nights a week for 3 weeks) with the last one being the written test, then the area state police officer would come to the shop you worked at and watched you do a inspection.
Then a year later I took 3 more nights to add trucks over 17,001 lbs gross(I think that was the split back then).
Now I hear it's a lot easier to get your license but they have taken to retesting all of us online which takes less then an hour and is like a open book test................................

Today the other ******** ZX fuel line decided to leak, only t be expected, they've all been to the same party. Of course this happened when I'd only ridden it two miles since I gassed it up. Turns out the ZX tanks comes off a lot easier than a ZRX tank. Then had to get roomie to hold the tank at just the right angle so I could change the line without gas ******* everywhere. Probably lost 1/2 cup... which I ended up wearing.
Got the tires pumped up to 41psi, they were at 30 which makes the bike feel even more like a tank. Lubed chain, checked oil, cleaned up under the tank a bit. Got it all back together without any bolts left over AND I found where the extra one from yesterday was supposed to be.
Need to clean a small area on the screen with IPA for the camera mount.
Have a small list of stuff I need to order from the dealer. they have free burgers & hotdogs on the first Saturday so may ride over there tomorrow.

I'm not seeing the green cutting board, but if you're looking for a more subtle way to shim it reach out to local 3D printing guys. If you have a fitting prototype we can copy it and print it in various different plastics depending on the printer / setup. Some can even print Nylon and carbon fiber-infused plastics.
If your bike is like mine, there' s a bodywork bolt hole that's being covered by another panel. You missed a mount and then covered it. When I take the batteries out of my Honda's I often miss that one mount!. :)

Cursed a lot!! Finally took the snowplow headgear and the front wing tower off my Dodge M 882 (military version of the 1977 Dodge W200 Power wagon). Just unbolted everything and let it fall. I am still pretty weak from fighting bronchitis and sinus infection for the last two weeks.
Once that was out of the way I mounted a receiver hitch to the push plates, now I can use the truck to push hay wagons into the barn.
Just in time too, I baled three wagonloads this afternoon.

Avoided the garage all day today, looking forward to working in it tomorrow (Saturday). I did go to Home Depot and a grocery store.

Tomorrow you will find me at two rental properties; possibly more.

Had a pretty accomplished day.

Replaced the tongue jack on the travel trailer that I f'ed up by forgetting to raise it up on our first trip :(

Then went into the trailer and added door latches to the doors that keep opening everytime we go somewhere.

Cleaned up the shop some looking for parts that I finally remembered were still in the house from when I purchased them.

Then installed a disconnect outside the shop next to the 30a plug for the travel trailer so that I don't have to go into the shop and use the breaker when I want to disconnect it.

Now I'm enjoying a cherry limeade that my wife brought me from Sonic.

I was debating buffing the motorcycle fender, but I'll do that tomorrow.

In Virginia you have to work in a shop for at least one year. Or attend school for at least 2 years. As long as the school you are at is approved by the state police. Then you take the written test which is open book and observed by the state trooper who grades it on the spot. In Virginia there is not separate licenses for commercial vehicles or motorcycles it’s all together so when you take one test you are taking it for all three types of vehicles which is pretty confusing on the test usually. Once you pass the test in front of the state trooper you get your license and login to the computer then you are able to do stickers on your own. First issue of your license is good for three years then you have to do the written test again and every license after that it’s 5 years provided you pass the written test each time.

Much like NYS. Though I let my inspector's license die about 20 years ago, as the mandated obdii testing on the state's mandated hardware and software came into full force.

The piece is the size & shape as the blade from a Stanley knife. It's sandwiched between the back of a frame tube & a bracket that's also behind a piece of bodywork. It took me about a minute to walk to the kitchen, liberate the cutting board, cut it, trim to size & stick it inside the bracket. You'd have to remove the right side fairing under the seat to even see the location.

Finished the metal ceiling in the garage expansion. R30 batts above. Also picked up some treated 1 x 4 for baseboard to make it easier to blow out the crud. Another step closer to getting all the cars here to the property. Moving the lift from a mile away is going to be an early morning endeavor.

Still doing it - replacing the dead Alt in the T-van - I had to take a lunch break, then a rest break as its fighting taking the pivot bolt. (working this from the "hood" under the drivers seat. What a Pain...) Fell asleep during the "break" for a badly needed nap.

Back to it in few here. I'm going to sharpen the dang bolt...

Finished the Alt replacement in the T-van No more "Christmas Tree" on the dash (happens when the Alt is on the fritz, - it had been coming on and of periodically since I bought it (the wiring is a hacker mess in places)... likely from the loose connectors for running it - fixed those too... ) all new belts, while I was at it.

Replaced this water neck.

3BF01EAE-2BA4-4622-B904-429AF7BC1D70.jpeg

that the base had failed on. Cleaned up the resulting mess, and checked for leaks. New replacement seems to be holding ok, no leak spotted.

Started diagnosing why I have no A/C. Gauge says there is ~85 PSI (cold), so now thinking the compressor may have failed. Debating what I may want to do about that if it had.

Worked with my boys on a full interior cleanup and detail of an ‘81 Buick Riviera… My youngest son loves to detail vehicles, so this is how we spend many of our Saturdays. My sons work very hard. They have a Harley, a boat, and like 4 additional cars lined up for detail in the next couple of weeks. They’re going to wear their old man out!

Gave the lawn tractor a servicing. The hydro was a getting a little noisy and since its been a few years since the last fluid change, it was due. Got Mobil hydro oil instead of 30w and it seems to like it better. Sharpened the blades and found a loose bolt that holds the pulley to the spindle. Last time that happened i didnt catch it in time and toasted the spindle and pulley. Then i found 1 rear tire was flat. Theyre old so they need replacing due to cracking but Slime has kept em going. I Slimed it again till i get a new one and it held just fine while i mowed.

Trying a different approach to weatherproofing.
Built in 95 my man door has required ongoing repaint, recaulk, repair w/ Durham’s rock hard for rot. This door faces the prevailing driven snow as well as surface temps of 150* in the summer.
Worst area is of course the lower section where snow & ice accumulate.
This diamond plate is one piece. Wraps across the slab, under the threshold & up the sides. Exterior trim is a Trex product that I do not recommend. It does hold paint well and doesn’t rot, but has major expansion issues.
Guess we will see how it holds up.

Changed oil & filter in the F 150 Ecoboost. Did something different this time. These engine have a major weakness w/ timing chain, tensioner, cam phasers. Many hold the pedal to the floor to prime the oil passages before starting. So, I will now employ this technique to fill the filter and get all passages primed B4 starting after oil changes. With 106,00 miles and zero issues it can’t hurt.

So Far (time fpr a lunch break):
Replaced the drive pulley on the drier, removed the idler pulley so its ready when that part comes in neat Wed.

Fixed the Singer 221 featherweight plug and wiring - Plug parts (to the machine - half the Bakelite shell was gone, and one of the brass receptacle pieces) from Eprey, one wire from a YS find yesterday that is the same sheathe 18 Ga wire the Singer used from what appears to be a Sony PS plug? Everything is operational from an electrical standpoint Now I need some bobbins and possibly a bobbin carrier, or parts for one; not sure but the machine runs as smooth as a, Heh - sewing machine!

Removed the right rear brake drum on the 1/2 ton looking for the source of that wheel locking up. Verdict, leaking wheel cylinder. So gotta head off to the store for parts. Probably should replace the shoes too but am "conflicted" because they are so meaty. Sanded them and they look okay now, no glaze, seem to have removed the surface contamination.. Hmmmmmm?

Sparks is coming by tomorrow to install a sub panel, had to clean that corner out. Also did some more tidying up to (eventually) make room for the Camaro so we can put the ST where the Camaro is now.
