I’m a little guy, but I carried a ton heavy **** up my attic ladder. Looked just like his:scared: Now imma be shitting my self bringing all that stuff back down when I move..lol
Yep, me too. I've carried lots of stuff up and down that ladder with no problem until the other day. All I had in my hand was one of my wife's vintage metal watering cans which probably weighs about 2-3 lbs. Ladder just decided to call it quits I guess. Good thing I had my other hand on the upper portion of the ladder which kept me from falling completely. I kind of just hung there for a few seconds I believe the ladders are rated around 200 lbs or so. I weigh around 173.

I buy all my ladders n whatnot rated for 300 lbs or better. I have plenty of paranoia.

Lots of yard/lot tasks lately.

I'd spent almost 3 hours looking for a lost sprinkler receptacle in the lawn. I had pictures and everything except GPS coordinates to it's location. Couldn't find it. After almost 2 hours on my hands and knees searching, I pulled the trigger on a cheap metal detector. $51 open box on amazon warehouse.

I usually like nice stuff. This cheap piece of **** is pretty awesome. Found the missing receptacle in less than 5 minutes. I'll be looking for other mysteries soon....

Neighbor calls and says he has rear brake issues, can I please help?

I'm a pretty helpful guy, so this is here now.

Had one rear brake get really hot.

This is what I found....

Bearing still feels good, one caliper guide pin is siezed. Gonna replace the caliper/bracket on both sides, both rotors, Seal and parking brake shoe on this side.

I bought aftermarket seats for my Chevelle and the seat brackets that came with the seats sit me too far forward and the seat leans towards the rear. The company Sid they were specifically designed for my year car. 🙄. I cut the legs off and going to reverse them to see if it moves me far enough back. I have a feeling they still wont be high and level enough. I’ll probably just end up fabing my own feet.

Former B-i-L came by & picked up the Horrible Fright compressor. Threw in an old rug for his patio.
New belt for the 60 gal Devilbis arrived, fitted that & the pulley guard.

Briefly energized the circuit to make sure it still worked. Had forgotten how quiet it is compared to the HF POS. It will be nice to have a real compressor again.

Sorted more boxes & shelves. Got my Grizzly 12 disc sander off the floor & onto a shelf.

Threw out the self-combusting HF air hose.

The vast majority of clean up out there now is down to roomie as it's mostly her stuff (altho quite a bit belongs to her adult kids). More ******** shoes than Imelda Marcos...

She's giving her (40yo) son until the end of the month to come get all his **** or it's going in the dumpster.

Finally sat down to watch a bit of TV at the other end of the house when we had a sonic boom of such intensity that for a moment I thought something had exploded in the garage.

Last night, solved a 2 month old mystery of why a '72 Midget wouldn't stay running. Turns out it was a bit of excess wire on the clip that the float valve was suspended by, was hanging up on the tab at the back side of the float, essentially holding the float valve closed.

I pulled the carburetor (Weber 32/36) and took the upper section off.

First observations, the internal filter was clean and not blocked by anything but there was very little gas in the fuel bowl.

Before starting a full teardown, it seemed the floats rested higher than they should have been. When I originally put the carb back together, I made sure I had the floats adjusted correctly. I even made a small gauge to make it easier to confirm.

I retrieved the gauge, re-checked the float height and sure enough, the floats were resting about 5-6 mm too high.

The problem was on the float valve, the thin wire clip that it hangs from has an extra length of wire that sticks out horizontally. There’s about ¼” of excess wire. The way I put the float valve in, this excess wire was pointing toward the float pivot pin, and (I’m assuming) got hung up on the downward rear tab that’s on the floats (the carb has brass floats) and restricted the float valve from opening.

A quick fix was to just turn the float valve around 180 degrees, having the excess wire point toward the fuel bowl.

Did the necessary cleaning and ensuring the carb passages were clear, put it back together and back on the car; and after 10 seconds or so of cranking, the engine started and idled fine. I let it idle for about 3-4 minutes, rev’d it a few times, shut it down and it restarted easily.

It was too late to take it for a test drive, but this evening, I’ll test it out around the back field to see if it’s finally fixed.

Minimally productive day...

Attached a short brass doodad to the compressor drain. Will be adding a piece of hose that I can point out the garage door when I open the drain valve.

Picked up an old radio from the storage place, cleaned it up & now have sounds in the garage :)

Also did some cleaning under the ZX on the bottom of the shock & linkages... & just now realized I forgot to grab my grease gun when I went to pick up the radio, so I won't be greasing the suspension linkages today...

Blew out my shop vac filter with compressed air. Then gathered all the trash in the pole barn, garage, and house.

The plan was that I was going to go around tomorrow and gather trash, pull some vines (poison ivy), pull some weeds, etc etc, to make some trash to justify a dump run Saturday.

Unfortunately, I got word late in the day that we will be working tomorrow. So yeah I’m glad I’ll make my 40 hours, but bummed because I planned a dump run, and now cannot do it (at least not with as much garbage I had hoped).

Dunno when the last time I posted about making a dump run, but I’m sure it was at least a couple weeks ago. I may now be at the point I can justify having trash service ($30/month vs $20 every time I go). I just don’t make enough trash I guess. And I don’t want trash just hanging around the house until I make enough. Oofta.

Might I suggest either hard piping the drain outside through the wall or firmly clamping the hose down. This way you can open the ball valve 100% and really flush things out without having the hose whipping about.

Just be sure you stand on that hose when you drain the tank.

I don't know what that means....

It's crazy, it has 4 chains!
Sorry about the obscure reference. On a road trip across the US in 1956 my parents drove through Alabama , where we encountered road construction crews (no interstates back then) made up of prison laborers. They were chained together at the ankles. Involved a lot of chain. Alabama did away with chain gangs in 2001.

What a pity. More of that and prison might not look like such a good deal. I miss seeing the man with no eyes walking the line with a scatter gun.

I aligned and tightened the set screw on the engine pulley of my current 12 Volt Alternator project. I also made an approximate calculation of the required belt length using Geometry skills from Junior High School.

50% of the effective circumfernce of both pulleys plus doubling the center to center distance. A 31 or 32 inch belt should fit nicely.

Kay, my all-time favorite movie. Couldn't believe Cool Hand Luke and Paul Newman didn't win Oscars. The winners, In the Heat of the Night and Rod Steiger were not even close for me.
The movie was great, but I can't count the number of times I saw chain gangs working along the roads down south. The movie looked just like reality.

Holy ****! Just noticed that I've made enough progress in the garage this week to pretty much access ALL of my workbench for the first time in I don't know how long. This means I'll now have to clean up all the **** that's piled on it... or at least most of it.

I'm a couple days behind. I had elbow surgery today and had about a dozen things that needed done inside and outside of the garage the last week. The couple days leading up to it I changed the oil in my daughters kia and sanded/polished 1 of the headlights. I bought a Salvage Title Dart that I needed to go through, so I spent pretty much all night pulling the wheels, checking the brakes, changing the oil, really going over it and then giving it a 1 step polish to bring back the shine before inspection. It passed inspection with no issue.

It cleaned up pretty good.

I ran my hose under the garage door. When the door is closed, the door holds the hose down and keeps it from moving. Just don't drain the tank with the door open.

Cleaned up decent,

0708221225.jpg

Bled, topped off, test drove and bedded the pads. It's outta here!

Back to work in the bimmer....
I've had too many axles loosen up leak when using RTV, I gone back to gaskets or new style seal rings if the axle will take them.

Box of new fairing/screen etc hardware for the ZX11 showed up. Originals are glossy JIS screws, replacements are spiffy satin finish Allen screws.

New hardware arrived in a small box with five compartments...

New hardware is actually 12 or so different items: Two different thread size screws in at least 6 different lengths, rubberized well nuts for the screen, plastic spacers for two of the screen screws & a couple of other styles.
Took longer to sort/separate everything as it did to fit the ones I changed (6x screen, instrument surround 4x, radiator cap cover 1x) fairing storage compartment. Grabbed an unused multiple compartment box off the shelf that has more than enough spaces for all the new stuff, all the old stuff I'm replacing, some new stuff I already had & some other new stuff that came with the bike.

Garage cooled off, went back out there & swapped out some more screws.

12 compartments of new stuff, 7 of the old stuff.

One of these screen screws was missing as was the well nut it screwed into (top row, 3rd from right in the box).

IMG_20220708_201251357.jpg

And these showed up, Two 1/2in drive 12mm sockets from Capri Tools. I can stick these in the rear wheel eccentrics & use them as spools to lift the rear wheel with my PitBull stand.

Finished adding more red stone to the new planting beds on the garage side of the house. More plants will be added in the coming days and we're looking for something to hang in the upper center of the wall. Perhaps a large 3' + diameter metal wall hanger compass. Maybe in a red or black color.
