Old craftsman toolbox just received and it’s “blue”?

I just got my grandfather’s toolbox he used as a mechanic, from my dad a couple days ago. My granddad was a Ford tractor mechanic his whole life. I’m going to guess he painted this box Ford blue. Haven’t looked for serial numbers yet because it’s still full of tools, half homemade tools. Really not sure where to start looking and do I restore back to original or back to “Ford blue”?

I think originally gray and dates are Inside the drawers behind the two logo plates.

No serial numbers.

Try some laquer thinner on a rag on those badges, blue paint may come off

I think the Rustoleum hammered silver vein (might be wrong on the color name) is a very good match to the original plus it will hide imperfections to a certain degree.

Wow, ok. I’m so clueless about these things. I just came into possession of it and I’m trying to learn all I can. Though I’ll never let it go being that my granddad, and then my dad used it, I still want to know everything about it.

I have the Montgomery Ward version.

They are terrific boxes. There are a lot of guys on GJ that have these boxes in different configurations.

I really like the idea of redoing it in Ford Blue to honor your grandfather.

Technically... The MW version was made by Rem-line. So similar to saying Plomb made the original, and Proto made the red version. Same idea...

I would go blue. Most likely the Ford Blue from the 60-70s Then it is a family pass down. It also gives the guys who are so important to us the honor they deserve for keeping us operational. Did it have any Ford stickers on it?

Surprisingly enough I have been able to get many decals or emblems from E-bay. Not always cheap but they are there. I hate doing tool storage. It seems I can fix and paint a tractor faster than cleaning and removing rust on a box. Say I will never do one then do it again. I found one of my grandfathers, an old Monkey Wards hip roof box. Since I wanted to be like he had it. It had a one year color from 1957 and I believe he bought it since it matched the color of the pickup he drove. Amazingly PPG was able to match the color and decals were available on ebay. Go do it and hope you have the family pride I did when I finished.

If mine, it would be blue. The value is in who owned it, and the blue is the way he made it.
