any campers or bushcraft types? I saw a u-tube video on Loop aliens(little things that help you set up a ridge line) and thought they might be interesting to try the next time I'm out in the woods. I did not like the size of them nor the price for the largest one ($17) so I decided to try to make my own. I used stainless washers and made 3. Depending on the cordage being used, you have to have decent sized holes from my perspective, which means you have to have a decent size loop alien. Anyone experienced with using these. Some may prefer to just try a knot. The alien in the pic cost $9.

They are a light line slip tensioner device kind of like those plastic pieces that come on tents and canopies

Generally I use something like tautline hitch though because it beats carrying extra pieces around

The photos on the phone were not deceiving you....I think he was practicing his bushcraft welding with some 6011's and a ferro rod.

It looks like the Aliens have a champfer edge, which I'm sure the stamped washers don't have so I'd eze those hole/outer edges a bit to save the rope/cord going through them. Might even double up the washers to make them thicker. Otherwise...

Interesting … i watched the video which does a nice jib of explaining ... the reviewer said its a nice gadget but not better than just looping rope.

I don't see how washers will function correctly, given the ID and the sharp edges as previously mentioned.

Also don't see the need to spend any money or time, or carry anything when a simple knot will achieve the same result.

Alien loop should be an "as seen on tv" item.
