Looking for something that makes accurate cuts for mostly wood trim and can also accomodate PVC pipe. Very limited use; maybe 10x/yr. Max thickness of wood to be cut would prob be 3/4 to 1". Maybe 4" wide. Many reviews on the Stanley at HD or similar complain about poor or inconsistent angles.

What would you all recommend for my needs? Again, only for small, quick tasks. Not looking at a miter power saw; just couldn't justify the price plus storage is getting tight.

Saw that, too, but need something about 4-5" wide. For smaller pieces, though, looks decent.

Don't laugh..
The yellow Harbor Freight one works well. The saw is WAY better then the Craftsman one I have. I did all the composite baseboards and crown molding in my house with the Harbor Freight one without any problems.

Sorry your looking for something for wider trim.

No worries; I thought about checking HF but I figured I get some choices from GJ, first. I have no problems with the dozen items I bought from them. The 5 drawer tool cart being the gem, for sure.

I run a 5" Langdon all steel Mitre box, think the saw is 26" long. Do all my square and mitre work on it (Can't cut square without it anymore). This is an older 6" I traded away when I could not find a saw for it. Found the saw 2 years later. Mounted to a 1x board, slap it on the workmate and away we go. Occasionally use it on the bench inside.

If you want low space requirements, the Gem box is rumored to be the best in class, even now. Others besides Alaska Freezer made them. Can use them with almost any saw that fits in the slots.

This is one of those tools that got 100% dialed in ages ago

Find the best vintage possible, or buy the cheap knock clone

Figured I'd see for myself how good or bad this is. Stanley 20-600D. $19 incl tax at HD. First cut was a 1/4" x 3" trim piece. Needed it to be 20.5" long. 90° cut. Made my measurement, used the cam locks and made my cut. Was pleased to see it was dead-on at my measuement; maybe a hair over. Not more than a 1/64" off. 076174206005.jpgMade a few other cuts at 45 and another 90 and results were very precise. I used the included saw for all cuts.

IMO, for light work like trim or crafts, it more than proves itself.
Appreciate all the replies, as always. I have good info if my needs change in the future.
