The Reed 4C split nut kit is now available.

It consists of the split nut, the thrust washer, and two point set screws (one spare). $75 USD per kit, inquire within.

Hi there,
Been a while. I’m now about to embark on producing a split nut kit for the Reed 106. It turns out it is slightly smaller than the 4C split nut.
Following that at some point will be the split nut kit for a Reed 3C if i ever get the sample beaten out of the vise.

Does anyone have a static jaw for a Prentiss (PV CO) No. 806? Also need the swivel base but the static jaw is needed in a bad way, split in half from what looks like a huge hammer...

The dynamic jaw, slide and handle are in pristine condition somehow and I would love to restore it someday.

I am posting to confirm that the 11115-15 is indeed 7/8-4 RH Acme threads.
I can also confirm that it works on Craftsman Vise # 506-51811 , which I think is a rebranded Columbian D45.
The original nut has a casting number D45-4B , and has a dovetail base with a pilot hole in the bottom wiithout threads.
The 11115-15 has a 1/2-13 hole in the bottom, which can be used to hold it down instead of the dovetail.
I just screwed it together with the included 1/2-13 bolt and washer, and it works fine without any modifications.
Hope this helps someone.

Thrumb: thanks for taking the time and effort to make these and offer them up to those that need them. I love reeds so if I find a big Reed that is missing it’s split but I now know where to get one. Good luck with your sales and go ahead and post up how you made them on the vise repair 101 thread and put in a pitch there too that you can provide them for sale.

Anyone have the main casting (static jaw) from a Wilton 1750 available? I have all the other parts, just need the main body.

Thanks!

Currently looking for jaws for a Craftsman 5197 / Rock island 4 1/2 inch jaws as well as the handle for the 5197.

Thanks
I realize this is an old post, but in case you're still looking for 5197 jaws, here's a source for new ones:

You're welcome.....I too am currently in the process of restoring a 5197 I picked up awhile back. It had a bent handle when I got it, but I was able to get it straightened at a local machine shop.

BTW, I need two Phillips 5/16-18 screws for Rock Island or 519X jaws, in case you or someone else still happens to have the originals left from before replacing the jaws, and would be interested in selling them (I just put an ad in the Wanted forum about that today). I believe at least some of the Reed vises also used these same screws.

I'll add my 5197 to the Registry on this site as soon as the restoration is finished in a week or two.

Thanks!

I bight a reed 3c and didn’t realize the slide support was broken off and missing until I brought it home. I decided to part it out. Let me know if you need any parts. The swivel base is already sold

Bagged, if the pipe jaws will fit a Reed 33 (the predecessor of the 3C) I could use them. Please PM me!

Hello, I am new to this forum. Not sure if I am asking my question in the correct place, so I apologize in advance if it's not correct. Perhaps someone will be able to help me:

I purchased an old metal table and it happened to have a broken Wilton 400 vise, dated 10 75 on the bottom of the back jaw guidebar. The back jaw (rear jaw)/body, casting #101157 is broken and missing the jaw. I hate to give up this cool old vise, and was wondering if anyone might have a body for this they are willing to part with so I can make this old vise a useable again for my shop.

I'd put a straight edge on the round slide in several places before investing in a new body - if that is also bent, then your better off going for a complete vise

And yes, the exact right thread.

Outlaw has good advise. With that kind of damage, I wouldn’t be surprised if the slide is a a bit bent. Bullet vise slide and bodies are machined to very close tolerances. Any bends at all will result in severe binding. Good luck. I hope your remaining parts are good.

I've been noticing lots of posts of people finding vises with broken or missing parts. I've been meaning to start a thread, so here it is.

Need a part?
Got some parts?
Hello I inherited a Reed 104 1/2r from my father. It’s been brazed back together and had held up remarkably well to shop work. I was wondering is it impossible to find another movable jaw to replace the brazed one?

Looking for jaws for a Samson Jr. 5509

(here's the vise: https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/threads/samson-jr-5509.479960/ )

It's not much of a vise, really....but I can use it in the small woodshed at our place in the woods of Maine. The jaws are shot, and if I can't find any replacements, I'll make some aluminum ones and keep it here as a soft-face vise.

Anyone have a clue if replacements are available anywhere? These measure 4-1/8 & 1/2" high. Holes are 1.930 on center, which seems odd.

Thanks Drives and Mr. W!

Sent an email to see if/when those jaws will be available. Vise is currently in a tub of ATF/Fuel Oil but want to check on a line for the jaws when I am at that point in the refurb.

Putting it out there to see if anyone has a swivel base for this guy!
All,

A while back i found this 3in Wilton Bullet and have always wanted to restore, and i have been searching for a swivel base. I had a thought and was curious as to if any knows, will a Wilton Shop King swivel base be the exact same as for the 3in bullet? Let me know your thoughts....Thanks all

Let me know if you would be willing to sell the lock down hardware. I've got a Wilton 450S that is missing the original lock downs. Thanks

Seeking a casing nut/spindle nut (the sleeve that holds the screw) for a Wilton Cadet. I think
it should be stamped 740. My vise is stamped 8145 on the dynamic jaw, 111009 on the receiving jaw. This vise was broken but brazed nicely back together and I want to give her some more years of usage. I am at 812 273-2472.

Does anyone know someone that can install a new handle? This Reed is very nice but the handle is a mess. I have a spare spindle from a Columbian I thought about cutting the welding back. Any help or suggestions/ideas would be great.

As mentioned, straighten it. It's not hard, I could do it in about 5 minutes. Just keep rolling it and wacking it, you'll be surprised how easy it really is.

Hi Wrenchr,

I might now of a guy or two who make new handles, please send me a PM if you want their info (I'm in no way affiliated to them). Also, below is a video of someone replacing the handle, not sure if that would be something you could do (I couldn't hahaha). If it was my vise I would try to save the original handle, in my view a replacement (even for a brand-spanking-new-stainless-steel-custom-made) would decrease the value of your vise.
I have used a hydraulic press before successfully, if you don't have one I'm sure a fellow vise enthusiast near you can help you out.
Let us know what route you decided to take and how did it go. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement fellas,
I was trying at first but was making it worse. I went back at it just a little while ago and much better, far from perfect but the vise is not either. I'm going to finish cleaning it up and it will be done. This little vise has lots of character.
