Used the mill and showed the son how to bore a hole through something.


Then broke the valve stem trying to reuse it. Probably should have just ordered replacements when I ordered the rim.

I don't have a way of cutting a larger key hole in the rim, so ground down the stock key a bit for now.

I'll order a new key and new tools in the future if it doesn't hold.

Rode the ZRX11 today. Fan cycled on as I pulled into the garage, somewhat unusual (last time was a couple of years ago)... Altho with that said I was hauling *** on it & it was about 100deg today.
However, 7 hours later it's still hot(ish) to the touch. Probably need to investigate that.. which is a PITA as ya have to pull the tank off to get to the radiator cap. No sign of a coolant leak & the temp warning light didn't come on.

Helped my son remove the faulty after market air bags on his Canyon. Once we had them off I pulled them apart. Pure trash. The mounting brackets were mismatched and mounting holes forced the bracket out of alignment with the frame. Truck drives/rides better.

Got my used oil barrel back from a shop that has an oil burner. Put a "new" pig mat on it, screw the vent back on and the funnel in the other hole. 30 gallons of free heat, he was happy to get it.

Furniture assembly is going much slower than hoped. Working four pieces as a batch is naturally increasing the time involved, even as I save some setup time by doing like things in batches. But things are coming together steadily.
One of two matching bookcases getting its oak fascia before I pull it off the bench and assemble its twin.
I'm intending to get all four carcasses glued up, trued up and nailed off today and continue fascia and molding trim work tomorrow morning.

Two bookcases 55"H x 27"W x 11"D, with adjustable shelves, sitting atop an existing lateral file and a sideboard cabinet built to match that lateral and fill the rest of that wall. The sideboard roughly 28"H x 60"W x 18.5"D. The bookcases will flank a framed movie poster.
Last is a media cabinet for my parents, a thing of cubbies, records, VHS and other media, to facilitate my 'archivist' father's quest to digitize things. 34"H x 48"W x 14"D

all with adjustable shelves, oak-veneer plywood bodies, various oak fascias and trims.

I've got seven more cabinet, hutch, built-in storage bench projects to build after these, hopefully all before the end of the year. And some time in late September I get back to work on my huge masonry grill island project in the back yard, as well. Long days of splitting time ahead, same as the last 2yrs+

Well, today I finally got some stuff done on my 1991 Subaru that's been sitting for three years after my oldest daughter rear-ended it into a truck. Replaced the headlights, turn signals, grille, radiator, AC condenser, front bumper, bumper foam insert, bumper shroud, and various nuts and bolts that rusted in place

Then I got to cleaning up some of the 25 years of **** that've been sitting on the shelves and on the floor in various piles and boxes. Who knew you could accumulate so much, yet need so little of it?

When I pulled my Clamp on meter out of the case to change the battery, i found that the release lever on the clamp was broken. Looked up the Manufactures name and got a telephone number. Amprobe is now owned by Fluke; they don't offer service or a direct replacement product.

Made a trip to Home Depot and purchased LOCTITE Super Glue, waiting until tomorrow for the glue to cure before I reassemble the meter.

My serial number indicates the meter was manufactured in the late 1990's, a former employer purchased it for me.

Rushed morning, starting with yet another trip to the big box hardware store for more expensive oak and more cheap beadboard. Got the rest of the 2nd bookcase box put together, both still need decorative moldings top and bottom. And I can't find the profile I want (and built for) on the bottom, to match the other two bookcases in my office. Not in wood, anyway. Very few choices. Am probably going to have to find a moulding store or better woods shop to find it, despite it being common in L.A.

Then my Goldbergian setup for truing up the middle support in its rabbet, in the sideboard. Probably won't get back to that until late this afternoon or early tomorrow morning. Have a couple medical procedures to head off to.

watch out, that's probably a bad 'upsell'. The alternator itself very rarely goes 'bad', it's little more than a metal case and metal windings / magnet set in resin. Any sort of parasitic drain is most likely with the regulator. Replace that and the pickup brushes, it's a very simple fix on older GM alternators. All you need is a nutdriver and a toothpick.

Discovered that the damage to my AC/DC Clamp Meter is not economically repairable.

In my efforts to fix things, I succeeded in making the problem worse. I have been shopping on Amazon and found a replacement from an unknown company for about $50. If I didn’t want DC current and HZ I could get one for less.

As long as I am working with generators and batteries I feel that DC & HZ are important.

Tore down the dryer. Rebuilt the control panel. Cleaned out the fuzz. Made a base and ablation plate for the laser cutter. Connected it to compressed air. Tested, tested, tested. Put the new watts link in Charlie's car. Kicked it out. Cleaned up. Put the Dingo, Burg, n big boxes back inside. Started the cutter cutting out a tree.

Pulled the (plastic) chain guard off the ZX11 & cleaned out 27 years of snarge. One of the three bolts is a pisser to get to.
Got most of it sorted, but it still needs some work.
Cleaned up some parts of the swingarm I couldn't get to with the guard in place. There's quite a bit more cleaning to do when I have the wheel out.
Did a bit more polishing on the rear wheel.
It's *almost* where I want it. There are very fine lines on it from the original machining & I like the look of those. If I took the wheel to a pro polishing shop those lines would disappear so that's not an option.

oh, also bought home my "garage trash can" from the storage unit. It was one of Doug Chandler's (13gal) fuel cans at Willow Springs when he had the #1 plate on the factory Kawasaki 750. I cut the top off it. There's another unmodified can in the storage unit.

In other news, got a call late yesterday that all my recent biopsies came back clear

Enough projects are done so that I can bring in my diesel and do the cab corners, swap out the bed, and install some sound dampening and sound insulating material.
