Never educate the vendors or your competitors (I call mine “the usual suspects “). It will only cost you.
It has paid off for me many times with vendors. Not only only with discounts, but first dibs on things they think I will like that they have put aside in their backseat. All in return for me simply tipping them off on something I don't collect that's worth $100 but they have it in their $1 bin. That kind of info goes a long way.

Competitors? What competitors? :pimpflash
that being said I enjoy chatting with him,
For sure. I love the Lugzsonian, but I live for the flea market camaraderie as much as the things. I don't flaunt it, but I don't hold back what I know with everyone, either. That delicate balance is all part of the game. You have to have a little rep.

Found these at a flea market recently. I don't have any "as purchased" pictures. These have all since been cleaned up.

I had to go out of town for a doctor's appointment, so I checked the local Craigslist while I was waiting. And after scanning for a few minutes, I spot a relisted ad for "Craftsman toolbox and tools." And checking out the ad, I text the guy letting him know which tools I was interested in (not the box, an '80s cheap roller). So, I came home with this lot:

An unusual adjustable wrench I hadn't seen before, and a very early Craftsman set. It's missing the original ratchet, sadly, and one socket, but not too shabby, eh? I am not a Craftsman collector, but I am sure it will find a good home.

I may have posted one I didn’t buy. I don’t think I have one like that.
Can we get a closeup of one of the sockets?
The rat has a somewhat Indestro look to it.

I'm guessing a "Fit-Mor" set but scanning catalogs I'm struggling to find a set with the stamped lid

Here is a closeup of the sockets:

And no patent # on the wrench, but the dates are 6-3-19 and 7-22-19.
yes, the ratchet is Duro/Indestro by the look, but is unmarked. For a very nice look at the socket box, along with more info, there is a complete set, with ratchet!, in the Long C thread.

What am I missing? Why is any speaker worth that kind of money?

Mike

1, Sound quality, 2, demand LOTS of people want them 3. Rarity not many were made and not many survived.

My "AL" buy for a certain tube amp to drive something like those currently runs 3-5K on Eprey, and that's likely the only place I'll ever see one.. (But hope springs eternal...)

I failed to spring for $450 for a pair of speakers that are unobtainium, and probably the best speakers Snell ever made, (I have 4 Snell E series speakers on my home theater system...) My only excuse was they are HUGE. But I'm not complaining - the new cost of my 4 was about $1700 each... (I have less than $200 in them...)

Still digging out of the hole full of tools that is my basement at the moment...here are a few things from a weekend or two ago.

This batch came from a thoroughly picked over estate sale, couldn't leave the duct tape behind along with the SK Wayne combo, Bonney DOE, Ford DOE, Craftsman combo, and Blue point DOE. And of course a couple more brass nozzles (no Outlaw, they are not duplicates!)
I was pleasantly surprised when I went to cash out and the gal running the sale said "a buck". Ok then!
Last is this recent(ish) SK metric set, this came out of a garage sale and the guy had commingled everything. I dug around looking for the rest of the pieces but no luck. Hopefully I can scrounge some up. Also grabbed the SK slotted driver and the little ratchet I thought was a Walden but it turned out to be unmarked (there was tape on the handle initially). $10 was the damage on this batch.

The little ratchet is Walden for sure. Usually they are marked but I have run across one or two unmarked ones.

I was advised it is going to a good home 😂. That escalated quickly

Scored this very rusty 1960's Wagner Ware #8 Skillet. My intention was to use electrolysis to remove the rust but was fresh out of Washing Powder - my local supermarket doesn't carry it, I could have ordered a super-sized box from Amazon for $13.00, and I try to avoid trips to Wally World at all costs, so that option was out of the question. Being the skinflint that I am, I threw the skillet in my fire pit last night.

After that I added elbow grease, steel wool, wire wheel on bench grinder and a wire bristle attachment to my corded drill it cleaned up pretty nicely. The pan is seasoning in my oven right now, but here is the after picture, for your edification. There is some light pitting, but I think it will work well after the seasoning :

11/16“ single-hex deep socket tee from Sunday’s haul. I do not recognize the logo, BMC or BMCo (BMCko?), with the B and C encircled within a ring. Ring any bells?
Botnik came to mind, but that logo is a rectangle. Also noted that BMW sparkplugs take 11/16” sockets…thoughts?26A42939-A1EF-4FBB-8BE7-C5AF7EDD9C9F.jpeg506C6C79-C88C-4CC8-ADB1-88B00DACECDC.jpegA32AC100-B08E-4A37-96CA-02B0ED0AF89A.jpeg

Gidge, pan looks good. FYI I used washing powder of some sort from the dollar store last time I was doing electrolysis, worked great. In case you've got one local, WAY cheaper than what you paid from Amazon

Outside of looking cool, what's this vice used for? Does it articulate at the base?
It's primary use I believe is for gunsmithing and similar hobbies. it can swivel and lock in several positions simply by tightening the jaws. Hopefully our real experts here will weigh in with a more in depth answer.

Just from what I’ve learned from this thread, it can be mounted as pictured, or mounted sideways. It can also rotate in either position.

The base stays mounted to the bench, and then the vise can be put on the base, using the large holes in the bottom and side of the vise.

Also called a parrot vise. Filing, wood carving, gunsmithing. I’ve never used one, but I see the versatility.

Not a pretty pile, but the price was right for this free.99 CL add.
Box of flares, Brass Craft pipe wrench, unmarked adjustable, Witco USA channel locks, Master Mechanic ball peen, Proto 12” pipe wrench, Proto 12” adjustable, USA vise grips, Chinese hammer with USA handle, Estwing hammer, Diamond monkey wrench, vise grip pliers, and an interesting Victorinox knife made in Switzerland. 455A3693-9D06-4FEB-9C37-7EB9CC837B5A.jpeg

Freebi when someone can't treat waste as it should be.
There is a short one block dirt road that the dog is trained to poo on as no one respects it any way, someone dumped a bunch of pails of driveway sealer and other ****, but there was other good stuff and I took some it and came back for more.
Called the town about it and then got a call back from some twitt who asked if I had a plate number, darling if I saw it I would have brought it up, what are you getting paid?
Anyway, most of a can of brake clean, Stable, power washer cleaner, some two stroke oil and a gas can that's younger than all of mine, what's in it smells fresh.A129C4FF-B9E5-46DC-9D75-6DDDEFEB82B8.jpeg

I had the chance to go back, once again, to that estate sale I was at a couple of times over the weekend, as I needed to pick something up. And there was a lot of stuff left, even after a half-price day! But, they said I could look around and hopefully buy something. Well, I did, and here it is:
52292218437_4489038e35_c.jpg
A Duro-type 1/2" ratchet, Sparta 1/4" ratchet, Plomb LA extension, P&C ball pein, vintage light fixture socket, Blue Point tappet, Dunlap chisel handle, Chrome Vanadium breaker bar...
52293687350_0f3184c435_c.jpg
U.S. Signal Corps. field telephone, and...
52293543424_5af2b13572_c.jpg
a pre-war Duro box, containing...
52293281231_6205cce33c_c.jpg
A Duro grinder kit! This shows up in the 41 power tools catalog.

But the reason I went back, and it is a two-hour drive, was I realized that the second belt guard was there, just not in the area where the shaper was located. I saw it, but it didn't register in my head what it was. So, when I realized this, I texted the estate company to see if there was any chance I could go get it, assuming it hadn't been purchased. And they were great! Gave me a time to show up, told me there wouldn't be a charge for it as it went with something I already purchased, and so on. I had to try, at least. I thought someone would have bought it to make a candle stand or something, but, no, it was there, exactly where I saw it.
52293459829_0e117eef00_c.jpg
I already had the lobe-shaped one, as I found it in a drawer full of mouse nests when I got the shaper.

And on that note, I will not be purchasing much in the next while, as my tiny shop is stuffed to the gills, and I need to work on fitting a lot of this stuff into it, getting rid of all the stuff I purchased to flip, and making some donations to clear space to actually work.

Glad you were able to get those guards! They are complex and really make the machine look good.

You can get ideas on a stand for the shaper from the manual, and also the Atlas shaper manual. They are almost identical in size and footprint.
