Over the years I’ve picked up quite a few military canteens. I told my wife I was planning to move the canteens into the basement. She asked where I was going to put them and I told her that I had no idea. She reminded me about a dilapidated hall tree we found by the curb. I had ordered eBay hooks for it a few years ago and then put the project on the back burner as refinishing seemed like too much work. She and I dug the pieces out and before you knew it we had a canteen display. I figured while I was at it I would dig out a few WW2 mess kits since they were in the same cabinet.

Thanks, guys. It was totally my wife’s idea and I agree that it was a good one.
I added a few reproduction leather ignition rolls I had sitting around in a cardboard box to Grandpa Al’s toolbox.

I pulled a few items out of the back of the Jeep to consider adding to the new hall tree. I picked a 1944 entrenching shovel and case along with a belt to attach it to the tree and a cartridge belt with some nice detail on the snaps. The other items went back in the Jeep.

They were made in Australia. There has been two runs of them done. Tin Medic distributed the first run and I distributed the second run. I haven’t heard that any more will be produced. They smell great!

I bought this toolbox made to look like a Jeep gas can a few years ago with the intent of painting it green to match the can carried around on the back of my Jeep. Obviously I never got around to it so I decided to use it as is to store the Crescent tools I seem to constantly accumulate. It is now residing in the basement.

That's neat Don. I've never seen a tool box can like that, it would look very tidy and fit instead of a regular Jeep can.. I do remember some on the market years ago, of a similar theme, looking like a modern flat gas can but the bottom half held gas and the top half was detachable for a basic car tool kit.

I have a little 1-1/2 gallon can with storage in the bottom made by Blitz. It’s the one on the left. The other two hold an additional gallon.

Yesterday I made room in the Plomb display for a couple more 1/4” drive sets.

An almost complete green box set missing just the 4760 short extension
Added to the display.

Don got the logo sticker from me. You can build your own. But I 100% agree with you that display is amazing!

^ Wow!~ okay... those are "Door-Eze" packages I've never seen. We sold "Door-Eze" sticks in the stores. They were like .... soft, sticky beeswax - best I can describe it. I have one around here somewhere but I have NO idea where it is. Plain beeswax color with a red paper wrapper (like a Crayola crayon) with white graphics.

I found a Coes wrench with a 1900 patent date on Friday. I will be using some linseed oil on the handle before adding it to the rest of the monkey wrenches.

I’ve had quite a few random oilers in various locations in the garage so todays project was to gather them up, clean off some of the collected filth and relocate them to the basement. Here is how it went.

I found a copper Ford script marked oiler at a Tahoe TOO yesterday that will be added to the oiler display. It was polished by the previous owner. I wonder when it was produced?

Now that we’re back in the mountains, I looked through my garage and grabbed some more oilers that were sitting around to add to the basement oiler display. Most will go with the new copper Ford one. -Don

This early Plews oiler was totally frozen and had some unknown deposits inside so it got an Evaporust bath. Most of the deposits came off and with the liberal application of WD40 it finally freed up and started pumping. It is a close match to the Plews oiler shown in the NAF catalog. It will be added to the oiler display as well.

The new Gerstner box has made its way into the basement. Next I plan to go through my machinist’s tools, currently stored in other boxes, and make it look like it might have when it was in use. I helped the seller empty the box before buying it and it had obviously been owned by an experienced machinist.
