Beemers top box looks like what high end automobiles had on the running board in the 20’s.

Seems too much of a coincidence that the draw section is a perfect fit to it.

But those three draw handles are items from left field......

Sigh. I can't quit you. It seems that as soon as I say something like that, good stuff pops out of the woodwork.

An old timer, a model A and military vehicle man, was divesting his collection of tools and parts. All of the buyers were very polite, unlike the man's daughters. In any case, I found a Proto LA torque wrench, Snap-on ratchet and spinner, Plomb ratchet and spinner, OTC spinner, a handful of small wrenches (including a Proto LA long 1/4"!), and this:

A homemade toolbox full of Ford wrenches, Winchester and perfect handle drivers, and a bearing scraper:
52332091791_da63281df7_c.jpg
There was no way I was passing that up!

The next two sales were not as good as they looked online, but I found a few things:
52331284034_e53d4ff7b0_c.jpg
One stop yielded the two miniature slip joints and the two dowl cutters (sans blades, but dirt cheap), while the next stop was where I found the winged Allen keys and chisel handles.

Today, I planned on getting some stuff done around the house, but the wife made sure I got out of the house, per our agreement (see, it isn't me doing this!) and I half-heartedly hit four stops, looking at a bunch of junk or overpriced junk. But, I did find one thing cheap enough to follow me home:
52331049402_5632b8545d_c.jpg
A South Bend 9inch. It is in pretty good condition, as it is covered in dirty oil, very little rust, but the belt adjust lever is broken (I might use a perfect handle for a fix. This is going to replace my 6inch Craftsman, which will, in turn, pay for a set of change gears and other tooling that I will need. This cost me a total of $150. I just couldn't pass it up at that price, especially as I had been thinking about looking for one.
Are you kidding me? The south bend and all that 👍 nice finds! I think this is the you **** of the weekend!

I went to an Estate Sale yesterday. While looking aat tools, a man approached the seller and asked the price of a craftsman breaker Bar, Craftsman 3/8 Ratchet, Craftsman Universal, Craftsman 3/8 - 1/2 Adapter and Craftsman 14mm socket (right side of the picture) The seller wanted $7 for those items. The buyer said it was too much, put them back and left. That gave me a feel of the pricing. I told the seller I would take the items. The items I picked out along with the items that were put back totaled $20.

Craftsman sockets 19 to 6 millimeters
Craftsman wrenches 17, 13, 12, 11, 8, 7 millimeters
Craftsman 11/32 - 3/8 wrench
Thorsen wrenches 17, 14, 12, 11, 9 millimeters
Snap 3/8 - 7/16 line wrench
S-K 3/8 drive 3/8 socket
Vintage Universal (no name)
1/4 inch extensions (no name)
Pliers (no name)

Neat find. And no pooperscoopering! :)

Having Jetsons flashbacks, too. The episode where poor Astro was worried he was going to be superseded by 'Lectronimo, a robot dog, until it started going haywire destroying the house and biting George on the ***!

:+1: Love the box and contents, Beemer!

Dang, I had this post ready to go last night when SWMBO explained in short, unambiguous terms that dinner was ready. In my haste, I neglected to hit send!

I usually don't post in this thread, more of a watcher. . . .but I had to share this one.

At the Flea market last week Sunday, found a vendor with a Ridge/Ridgid #35 Hex wrench. Kinda rare, as Ridgid discontinued them years ago. I collect steam whistles, and have had my eyes open for one for awhile. Have seen these go for $200-$300 in steam whistle auctions.

The seller was asking $65, so in my mind, he obviously didn't know what he had, and I just HAD to try and talk him down. I started at $25, he came back with $50. .and we settled on $35. I immediately had the wife take a pic of me and the prize. Needless to say. She was not the least bit impressed.

It's got a crappy coat of orange spray paint on it, but that's it. After a quick dose of Citrusstrip, with all the paint gone, I can see it's in perfect condition. Going to either paint or have it powdercoated best I can to match original. She'll be shining star in the Steam Whistle toolbox!!

At less than 10% and NIB - that's a USUCK on the Safety can!
I got my other 5 gallon for about $10 sealed in the box years ago at an estate sale of a closed auto shop. That one had the funnel. There were a few GJ members at that sale. I bought my Dake press at that sale.

I got my 2 gallon on sale at Menard’s, and I want to say that it was about $25. The 2 gallon is a much easier size to use.

I have enough funnels that it doesn’t bother me that this one doesn’t have one.

Wow, SO MUCH suckage in one day!!!

Moly that is a really nice pile and some really nice finds For $20 that deserves a USUCK for sure!

Agreed, @Moldyjim ***** for that $20 pile!

Was able to get all the new drawer slides installed,a good wipe down of the drawers with a Bucket O'Towels, fresh tube of SuperLube, some major re-arranging and we are here now:

@alinc100: That SO stack is beautiful, and even though you had to do some restoration, that's a You **** find!

Are you kidding me? The south bend and all that 👍 nice finds! I think this is the you **** of the weekend!

Probably, but there are two days left. But, @bmwrd0 most definitely ***** for that SB lathe!

Eagle type 1 in the box (no funnel, but I have a few) $5.

Funnel or no funnel, You ****, @ecotec!

Don’t you love picking up stuff after a below bottom feeder says it’s too much? I’ve done that at a few estate sales. They usually grab a huge pile, expecting it to be almost free, and then grumble at the $10 price. I grab what I want when they leave it at checkout, occasionally while they are still there.

Weekend started out poorly with many dud sales but I spied a sign on my way home for a professional estate sale that I wrote off previously but since I was driving right by it I said what the heck and wheeled in. Upscale condo area so not a lot of hope but end up picking a William's 3/8 drive SAE socket set which is surprisingly complete according to my catalog. A few extras in the box including a 3/8 Snap-On breaker bar.

Saturday responded to a FB Marketplace ad for a wrench set so not a garage/estate sale per say but kind of ended up that way. Guy my age of 60 no longer wrenching so selling off a bunch of mechanic tools he had stored at his parents house. Picked up the wrench set but he showed me about the garage and barn to see what else I might be interested in. Unfortunately not a whole lot of stuff I didn't already have though he still had a ton of stuff. Ended a picking up a ratchet during the walk through.

Vulcan SAE angle wrench set and a Mac 3/8 ratchet.

I went heavy this weekend (120 lbs. or so each). I have wanted an arbor press for a while, but really was waiting for one like this, which works well and only needs a little clean up. The Greenerd No.3 Arbor Press can apply three tons of force and the ram is about 17” in length. I may have the inside track on a heavy cast iron grinder stand which I will configure to work with the arbor press. The J Line Combination Power Sander was an added surprise. The belt is 6" x 48”, and the disc is 10" diameter. It included a stack of maybe 25 10" sanding discs too. I will use different grits than on my 16” disc sander, so I don’t have to change them out as frequently. $190 total.

Nice finds!

I have a flat Williams box (just the box) similar to that full of electrical parts. It may be the 1/2" drive version? it has the end section on both ends? :dunno:

A single ES on Friday had three tool boxes and a table of tools in a backyard shed. For once I remembered to take before photos, although only the plane and level appear much improved in the after photos.

- Goodall plane. I initially thought the tote was a replacement due to the top nut and it being a different color than the knob, but Time Tested Tools shows the exact plane, with top nut, red handle and black knob. Not much help there on narrowing the estimated date between 1894 and 1934. Any help would be appreciated. No clues beyond the Goodall name on the top sole. Nothing at all on the iron.
- Stanley 36G-12 inch level. Yes, I wire-wheeled the machined surfaces. In my book, precision instruments don't benefit from "patina." Penetrating oil currently working on the screws holding the spirit levels so I can clean them properly. Japanning issues may remain.
- Five Indestro sockets of various eras--both 1/2 & 3/8 drive, one Thorsen and a Gator Grip 7-19mm socket.
- Challenger 1266 6" extension
- No name wood screw driver
- Milton Service Gage, Chicago 39, Pat. Pending
- Starrett C604R 6" Rule. This is what happens when you leave a precision rule in a leather sleeve in the bottom of a rusty tool box. It's shot.
- Craftsman Crown 4110, 4-Way Offset Screw Driver
- Meteor Ignition Pliers. Nice and sturdy, but no info on them. Most likely offshore.
- Unopened Daisy steel BB pack, 6000 count
Total $15.

Not much useful info yet, this is a post from 2002, from the editor of DAT*.

….asked about a plane marked Goodall. Per the DAT, the Samuel I Goodall Hdw. Co. of Philadelphia, PA, was a hardware dealer who marked planes and other tools "THE GOODALL Co." -1894-1896. But it may be more likely that the plane Minch asks about was one marked by the Central
Hardware Co. of Philadelphia ca. 1923 who apprarently marked some tools with just the brand (or such) name Goodall. It is not known if Central succeeded the Goodall Co. or some such thing, but such appears likely.

*Directory of American Toolmakers, pre 1900

Here is the timetestedtools link, which as you found, has much more info, for those who care.

Interesting that there isn’t a patent in Goodall’s name. (In DATAMP)

I’ve only seen one other pop up, a few years back, but he had five at once. The others are all misspelling GP

Nice scores!
Thanks 3bay, had to pick up the wrench set since it is one you don't see every day.

Outlaw, Thanks !..........the box is approximately 19 1/2" L x 6" W x 1 1/2" D which pretty much jives with the dimensions shown in my later catalog. I have a similar box for a 1/2" drive set that measures 23" L x 7 3/4" W x 2 1/4" D which exactly matches the dimensions in my catalog. That box like the 3/8" drive box has only one end section so sounds like yours is maybe from a different era :dunno:

Thanks RTM!
Yes, from the descriptions in TTT I was leaning toward the Central Hdw time period, however the article does little to narrow the possible dates from between 1899 and 1934.
What is throwing me is the measurements. My plane's sole measures 9-5/8" x 2-3/8" with a 1-15/16" blade.
While the blade falls within their stated +/- 1/8" caveate, my sole is outside it by 1/4" in both dimensions.

This is the only pic I had seen of these prior to today. Looks like a bit of variability across them Left to Right. Maybe too small of a sample set. Only made for 3 years 1894-95-96, per the poster

This is from a FB post, so holler at me if it doesn't load for people

Spent some time over the weekend going to the local flea market and a few yard sales, here's the haul. I also went to Packwood which is a bi-yearly flea market that's supposedly the largest in the state of Washington, but I'll document that in a separate post or two.

First, the local flea market stuff. I think I paid around a buck a piece for this stuff. The ball pein is nothing unusual but I'll rehandle it, the combo is Proto LA, P&C socket, Craftsman crows foot. I assume the partial hex set is Indestro, then there is a Lectrolite DBE and some SK 1/2 drive sockets. A Herbrand combo, Plomb WF-78, 5245?, 3320 ignition, and 1122 DBE. Then there's a mix of Snap on sockets, Blackhawk, Duro Chrome, and D-I, with a mysterious DBE marked only 38052 at the bottom.

IMG_4287.jpg

This stuff came from a random TOO sale, I should have looked at the Craftsman combos more closely as they're newer and not USA so they're headed to goodwill. I was pretty happy with the Crown Top 1/4 inch box since I've been needing one for loose sets, and the big Mac breaker I couldn't leave behind. $5 for all of it.
IMG_4286.jpg

Another TOO sale yielded a few knives, paid $15 each for these two. The D2 version is not a well known brand (Contender), but usually D2 knives are really expensive so I took a shot on this one. The CKRT I just thought was cool and it'll get used hiking and camping.
IMG_4285.jpg

Finally, went by an estate sale that advertised tools and there wasn't anything left in the garage if there was ever anything there to start with...I ran through the house as well and found this in one of the closets. Not really my thing but I thought I'd get a price on it. $8 later I need to figure out what to do with it :ROFLMAO:

Ok, will probably need two posts for Packwood. For those that aren't familiar, Packwood is a small logging town near Mt Rainier. Twice a year on Memorial Day and Labor Day, the entire town fills with hundreds of flea market vendors and thousands of shoppers. It supposedly is open Friday through Monday, but I went down Thursday afternoon and most of the vendors were open already. Apparently a lot of them are open on Wednesday as well, some of them arrive as early as Monday!

I had a hotel room in the area as it's about a three hour drive for me and I did the one day thing last year, which didn't leave me as much picking time as I wanted. So this time I picked for the second half of the day on Thursday, stayed overnight, picked the first half of the day on Friday and then left by the time it was getting busy and super hot out.

Here's a look at the scene...about a mile along the main drag is all vendors, and the vending stalls extend back way past the road...

IMG_4283.jpg

Here are a few typical booths/tables

IMG_4277.jpg

IMG_4280.jpg

One of my goals for this trip was to get some axe and hammer handles for a lot of the heads that I've picked up in the last year. There's a guy that shows up with hundreds and hundreds of handles, I got away with this batch for just under $80. Plenty of hanging projects for the winter!

IMG_4278.jpg

I have too many pics for one post so I'll continue this one on a new post.

Nice grabs! Pretty good for $190, especially since that sander includes the discs

One thing about Packwood is that most of these vendors make a lot of their income for the year from this show. So nothing's cheap. In particular, axes, planes, cast iron, and other collectibles are ridiculously expensive. I spent most of my time digging through totes which yielded some decent stuff but not much of it was a bargain. Oh well, the main intent of this trip was to have fun and enjoy myself, and by the time I left I was exhausted and picked out! All in all a success I'd think despite the lack of suckage.

Without further ado, here is the haul.

I really like this old Wright set, not sure what pieces I'm missing other than one of the sockets but it is just cool looking! $20
IMG_4288.jpg

Here's the Plomb and Duro/Indestro. Pretty straighforward other than the unmarked combo second from bottom. Looks like a Duro to me but I could be wrong.
IMG_4289.jpg

This batch is Cornwell, Mac, Blue Point, plus one token Snap on and Matco.
IMG_4290.jpg

A big Duro speeder, Indestro (I assume) hex set case, the combos are Billings, Bonney, and Williams. Armstrong on the right starting with the spinner.

IMG_4291.jpg

Here is SK/Lectrolite, Thorsen, Husky, New Britain, Craftsman
IMG_4292.jpg

A bunch of socket stuff, SK top left, Plomb/Penens/P&C top right, Husky/New Britain middle left, Bonney/Bog/Mac/Walden/OTC middle right, Indestro bottom left, Snap on bottom middle.
IMG_4293.jpg

Finally some Proto LA, Proto MFD, P&C, and Fleet.

So this isn't exactly from a yardsale, but I did have to pay for it. Although I got a great deal.

We are still dealing with my grandfathers estate, and we are at the point where the aunt and uncle have gotten what they want, and everything left belongs to my mom. Well I have been trying to buy this tractor for a while, but she would never come up with a price.

Well today she finally did.

This tractor has been in my family for years and I have tons of memories of riding on it with my grandpa. I always liked it because the seat was offset, so the axle made an awesome passenger seat for a grandson (me).

Anyway, it is a 1940 Farmall B. It needs a good cleaning and new tires. I was fully expecting a struggle to get it going, being a hand crank, something I have never messed with. But all I had to do is drain the sediment bowl of the foul smelling gas, put new fuel in it, and crank her. She fired right up and purred like a kitten. Not bad!

I got some hand tools (some unusual ones as well) and things too, but will have to get a picture tomorrow.

@freudianfloyd "You ****" seems wildly inappropriate, but WOW and congratulations on acquiring that sentimental piece!!!

Unbelievable that it fired fight up and ran so well. Definitely a good omen! Tires are cheap / easy in the grand scheme of things.

I really like this old Wright set, not sure what pieces A big Duro speeder, Indestro (I assume) hex set case, the combos are Billings, Bonney, and Williams. Armstrong on the right starting with the spinner.

Here I see a Caterpillar Diesel wrench to the right of the Armstrong spinner.

I got some pictures of the smaller things I was given at my grandpa's estate.

Craftsman valve spring compressor, lots of sanding belts, some tractor parts and a couple misc. bullets. Also a strange pair of battery cable pliers.

I also got this Porter Cable belt sander, a Snap on puller, a pull cable that I happen to need for the tractor I just got, and three ratchets.

Here is a close up of the pliers. I believe they are Belden, and thought they were cool with the box end handles.

The ratchets are made by Cornwell, Plumb, and Mustang. I have never heard of Mustang brand, but thought it was cool and worth adding to my ratchet collection.
