Moly that is a really nice pile and some really nice finds For $20 that deserves a USUCK for sure!
Are you kidding me? The south bend and all thatSigh. I can't quit you. It seems that as soon as I say something like that, good stuff pops out of the woodwork.
An old timer, a model A and military vehicle man, was divesting his collection of tools and parts. All of the buyers were very polite, unlike the man's daughters. In any case, I found a Proto LA torque wrench, Snap-on ratchet and spinner, Plomb ratchet and spinner, OTC spinner, a handful of small wrenches (including a Proto LA long 1/4"!), and this:
A homemade toolbox full of Ford wrenches, Winchester and perfect handle drivers, and a bearing scraper:
There was no way I was passing that up!
The next two sales were not as good as they looked online, but I found a few things:
One stop yielded the two miniature slip joints and the two dowl cutters (sans blades, but dirt cheap), while the next stop was where I found the winged Allen keys and chisel handles.
Today, I planned on getting some stuff done around the house, but the wife made sure I got out of the house, per our agreement (see, it isn't me doing this!) and I half-heartedly hit four stops, looking at a bunch of junk or overpriced junk. But, I did find one thing cheap enough to follow me home:
A South Bend 9inch. It is in pretty good condition, as it is covered in dirty oil, very little rust, but the belt adjust lever is broken (I might use a perfect handle for a fix. This is going to replace my 6inch Craftsman, which will, in turn, pay for a set of change gears and other tooling that I will need. This cost me a total of $150. I just couldn't pass it up at that price, especially as I had been thinking about looking for one.
Neat find. And no pooperscoopering!a battery operated K9 from the Dr Who show

Are you kidding me? The south bend and all thatnice finds! I think this is the you **** of the weekend!
Love the box and contents, Beemer!I got my other 5 gallon for about $10 sealed in the box years ago at an estate sale of a closed auto shop. That one had the funnel. There were a few GJ members at that sale. I bought my Dake press at that sale.At less than 10% and NIB - that's a USUCK on the Safety can!

Was able to get all the new drawer slides installed,a good wipe down of the drawers with a Bucket O'Towels, fresh tube of SuperLube, some major re-arranging and we are here now:

Eagle type 1 in the box (no funnel, but I have a few) $5.
I usually don't post in this thread, more of a watcher. . . .but I had to share this one.
At the Flea market last week Sunday, found a vendor with a Ridge/Ridgid #35 Hex wrench. Kinda rare, as Ridgid discontinued them years ago. I collect steam whistles, and have had my eyes open for one for awhile. Have seen these go for $200-$300 in steam whistle auctions.
The seller was asking $65, so in my mind, he obviously didn't know what he had, and I just HAD to try and talk him down. I started at $25, he came back with $50. .and we settled on $35. I immediately had the wife take a pic of me and the prize. Needless to say. She was not the least bit impressed.
It's got a crappy coat of orange spray paint on it, but that's it. After a quick dose of Citrusstrip, with all the paint gone, I can see it's in perfect condition. Going to either paint or have it powdercoated best I can to match original. She'll be shining star in the Steam Whistle toolbox!!
Don’t you love picking up stuff after a below bottom feeder says it’s too much? I’ve done that at a few estate sales. They usually grab a huge pile, expecting it to be almost free, and then grumble at the $10 price. I grab what I want when they leave it at checkout, occasionally while they are still there.I went to an Estate Sale yesterday. While looking aat tools, a man approached the seller and asked the price of a craftsman breaker Bar, Craftsman 3/8 Ratchet, Craftsman Universal, Craftsman 3/8 - 1/2 Adapter and Craftsman 14mm socket (right side of the picture) The seller wanted $7 for those items. The buyer said it was too much, put them back and left.

Not much useful info yet, this is a post from 2002, from the editor of DAT*.- Goodall plane. I initially thought the tote was a replacement due to the top nut and it being a different color than the knob, but Time Tested Tools shows the exact plane, with top nut, red handle and black knob. Not much help there on narrowing the estimated date between 1894 and 1934. Any help would be appreciated. No clues beyond the Goodall name on the top sole. Nothing at all on the iron.

Thanks 3bay, had to pick up the wrench set since it is one you don't see every day.Nice scores!
Outlaw, Thanks !..........the box is approximately 19 1/2" L x 6" W x 1 1/2" D which pretty much jives with the dimensions shown in my later catalog. I have a similar box for a 1/2" drive set that measures 23" L x 7 3/4" W x 2 1/4" D which exactly matches the dimensions in my catalog. That box like the 3/8" drive box has only one end section so sounds like yours is maybe from a different eraNice finds!
I have a flat Williams box (just the box) similar to that full of electrical parts. It may be the 1/2" drive version? it has the end section on both ends?![]()

This is the only pic I had seen of these prior to today. Looks like a bit of variability across them Left to Right. Maybe too small of a sample set. Only made for 3 years 1894-95-96, per the posterWhat is throwing me is the measurements. My plane's sole measures 9-5/8" x 2-3/8" with a 1-15/16" blade.
While the blade falls within their stated +/- 1/8" caveate, my sole is outside it by 1/4" in both dimensions.

Nice grabs! Pretty good for $190, especially since that sander includes the discsI went heavy this weekend (120 lbs. or so each). I have wanted an arbor press for a while, but really was waiting for one like this, which works well and only needs a little clean up. The Greenerd No.3 Arbor Press can apply three tons of force and the ram is about 17” in length. I may have the inside track on a heavy cast iron grinder stand which I will configure to work with the arbor press. The J Line Combination Power Sander was an added surprise. The belt is 6" x 48”, and the disc is 10" diameter. It included a stack of maybe 25 10" sanding discs too. I will use different grits than on my 16” disc sander, so I don’t have to change them out as frequently. $190 total.

Mystery DBE looks Armstrong to me. Nice score on the MAC breaker bar for $5. That’s a you ****. Love the stuff you find, Saukit!Spent some time over the weekend going to the local flea market and a few yard sales, here's the haul. I also went to Packwood which is a bi-yearly flea market that's supposedly the largest in the state of Washington, but I'll document that in a separate post or two.
First, the local flea market stuff. I think I paid around a buck a piece for this stuff. The ball pein is nothing unusual but I'll rehandle it, the combo is Proto LA, P&C socket, Craftsman crows foot. I assume the partial hex set is Indestro, then there is a Lectrolite DBE and some SK 1/2 drive sockets. A Herbrand combo, Plomb WF-78, 5245?, 3320 ignition, and 1122 DBE. Then there's a mix of Snap on sockets, Blackhawk, Duro Chrome, and D-I, with a mysterious DBE marked only 38052 at the bottom.
This stuff came from a random TOO sale, I should have looked at the Craftsman combos more closely as they're newer and not USA so they're headed to goodwill. I was pretty happy with the Crown Top 1/4 inch box since I've been needing one for loose sets, and the big Mac breaker I couldn't leave behind. $5 for all of it.
Another TOO sale yielded a few knives, paid $15 each for these two. The D2 version is not a well known brand (Contender), but usually D2 knives are really expensive so I took a shot on this one. The CKRT I just thought was cool and it'll get used hiking and camping.
Finally, went by an estate sale that advertised tools and there wasn't anything left in the garage if there was ever anything there to start with...I ran through the house as well and found this in one of the closets. Not really my thing but I thought I'd get a price on it. $8 later I need to figure out what to do with it

This is very, very sadly, true. Can you imagine the garage sales people will be hitting once the GJ’s members start selling off all their stuff?
One thing about Packwood is that most of these vendors make a lot of their income for the year from this show. So nothing's cheap. In particular, axes, planes, cast iron, and other collectibles are ridiculously expensive. I spent most of my time digging through totes which yielded some decent stuff but not much of it was a bargain. Oh well, the main intent of this trip was to have fun and enjoy myself, and by the time I left I was exhausted and picked out! All in all a success I'd think despite the lack of suckage.
Without further ado, here is the haul.
I really like this old Wright set, not sure what pieces A big Duro speeder, Indestro (I assume) hex set case, the combos are Billings, Bonney, and Williams. Armstrong on the right starting with the spinner.
Here I see a Caterpillar Diesel wrench to the right of the Armstrong spinner.
I didn't get a coffee can, but did find an exhaust flapper when going through the garage. That's very cool! but you need the obligatory coffee can on the exhaust pipe to keep the rain out!![]()
