Exactly why I'd love to watch you work.an old man farting around in his shop doin what he's done all his life
You wouldn't have liked watching me work today ToolfoolExactly why I'd love to watch you work.

Lutzbummer, I thought that stuff only happened to me. Hopefully you can get it sorted without too much trouble.
Yes ShortyRain….in Southern California
It least the engine didn’t land on you, that’s the important part. A little duck tape with fix the ******.
I would just get a new case and swap everything over.Lutz
The tag on the trans says that I had it rebuilt in 2013 so maybe I can just get a new case
Yes Shorty
They promised us a huge rain storm with a couple of inches of water but it just drizzled all evening
Duct tape? you must have better tape in florida
Thanks for dropping by KellyI would just get a new case and swap everything over.
I grew up in Hemet so I have been watching the Fairview fire. The mainstream media and the
Weather channel were talking like y'all would be having to build an Ark. A years worth of rain
in one day. Yea you bet.
Oh DanAh ****, Don. That accident TRULY *****. Especially when you were making good progress. Condolences!
As for that cart? I try very hard to be a patient person but I think I'd be pissed as hell and cut it into teeny tiny pieces cursing the entire time! Yes, irrational but somehow it deserves it!! Lol

After licking my wounds last night I went out and took some damage assessment of the motor
So the thought crossed my mind "can the case be welded???
You can see the tag that has the date of 2013 when I had the trans gone through
It’s a valid learning method. Watch the best. Imitate them until you understand the why they are doing it that way.Osmosis?
That was just my cheap *** first thought. But the 454 with Edelbrock aluminum heads and a mild cam with fuel injection a 700r4 may not be the right trans for that motor so It may be a blessing in disguiseAs long as you don't plan on putting big horsepower in it welding would work. I have welded a few of them.
Thanks DanDon, if it were me, I would get a new case rather than try to weld it together. Too many things need to line up perfectly and a welded case might not do it.
Just my humble opinion.
Surprising ZippyShoot that is not good…….I imagine you have some very descriptive adjectives floating around Southern California on that one.
Yep, I think you may be right. If it were a stock small block maybe but you have definitely crossed the line. Back in the day it would have been a turbo 400 out of a 1 ton with the heavy case. That's what I have for my 64 but I'm starting to think that I may use the 480LE, what are you thinking would be better in the El Camino? That was just my cheap *** first thought. Maybe because I'm in this stupid state I'd better get rid of that gas guzzler and go electric so I can help add to our electricity shortage.Yep, I think you may be right. You are right Uncle Willie***** about the trans, but since you are going with a big block the 700 will not last. I would go with a 4l80 if you want overdrive. A turbo 400 if not.
Oh No DudeWow, Don. I thought that sh*t only happened to me.
Thanks for the visit patlunI havn't been commenting for a while, but I have been following this and some other threads. That small accident with the transmission had get me to go out in the woods for a long walk to calm down. I am not a car guy *), but I would not use that trans for anything more than showing it is a discouraging example.
*) I like to drive them and look at them, but I am not repairing them![]()
Thanks DanThe little air compressor is cool and will even even cooler once it gets the Long treatment.
I have a mildly cammed LQ4 in my '55 and it has a 4l85e behind it. They came out of a big flat-face Isuzu delivery truck with only 81,000 miles. We rebuilt both anyway but they were still pristine inside.
The guy that did my mechanical work claims the 4l80's require very little to handle big power whereas the 4l60's require quite a bit yet guys use the 60's because they're more readily available. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Failed after just one launch.the 700 will not last.
Slow on the jokes huh? That was suggested 17 posts ago.Sir,
What about JB weld for the transmission case?.........haha
JimWhat spray gun will you be using,
Sorry, I couldn't resist!
I'm with you DanUGH, I'm no drywall specialist. I only do it infrequently so when I do it there's plenty of do-over to get it smooth.
About the time I finish is when I've regained enough ability that it's THAT point I should have been before I even began! Lol
IcemanFailed after just one launch.![]()
But ShortyI got some tried and true duck tape and baling wire.
Nice early gen Wilton and look forward to what the compressor becomes.
I dropped the trans off at the ****** shop today and asked if they could weld the case back together (THEY LAUGHED AT ME)Sir,
What about JB weld for the transmission case?.........haha

...When one of my grand daughters was here last time, she wanted to help me out in the shop...
