What type of metal building? Are you going with a square tube framed building like Carolina Carports or Eagle, or a red iron building?

Some basic info would be needed to help sort out your search.
- Stick framing or metal framing
- Approximate size and height
- Commercial or residential
- Roof and siding materials
- Slab or just gravel (like in a pole barn)

Good luck with your search and going forward with the build!!

If a general contractor will be involved then they should source the building. If you purchase the building and anything is wrong or missing you will be responsible for correcting the problem and you will be responsible for any warranty issues.

I would search out a general contractor that installs the type, or even manufacturer, of building you're looking for. Spot some newer red iron buildings in your area and ask who the contractor was. Good luck.

Yeah, considering a GC will want about 8% or so of the total project Im going to contract it out myself. I am really looking for so metal building providers that people on here have had good experiences with. I will contract out the 5k SF concrete slab with the plumming pre installed though.

I have been a metal building contractor for over twenty years so here are a few questions. Are you dealing with a building department? Do you already have permit plans prepared to put out to quote? Does having water in the building affect the energy design of the foundation and building with the building department? If you have plans do they take into account any collateral load required?

Even if you decide you will be your own contractor I would strongly suggest that you hire a metal building contractor to provide and erect the building. I am the guy you call after a week of frustration to come out and finish the erection. I show up with a crane, telehandler, a couple of sizzor lifts and six guys that know what they are doing and start hanging iron very quickly. By the way 8% is a good deal, he is almost working for free.

My local building department has looked at some prints for a building id like to put up but have not gotten any permits as of yet. Their concern is wind load, weight load, and seiesmic....any building that i purchase with have stamps for my state or at least the other 2 buildings i put up came with them so... I hear ya on the 8% also... my budget it low for this one so every little bit saved will help...

A local supplier will know what the local requirements are and should be able to fill in all of the requirements for ordering a building. Buy local if you can even if you erect it yourself. A local supplier will have a relationship with the building supplier and if anything goes wrong they will be responsible to correct it.

Corle building systems out of Imler Pa. They can deliver stamp drawings . I did a 40x80 with a 4:12 pitch and 2 ft overhangs and every nut and bolt, spouting and seamless roof. Not one issue or anything missing. We have a Ceco at work and not the same quality at all.

Wow, they certainly look promising. Are these the red buildings that they are selling? Simpsons have a 40x80x12 with a 312 pitch for 43,500.00 its the best price for a red building that i have seen thus far. Is Corle' 40x80x12 prices close or even better than this?

My dad had Morton put up a pole building in Massachusetts and I would say it is a very nice building and they are a very good company. 40 x 60. I wish he had gone maybe 4 feet taller so we could have had an upstairs. I think it is 14 to the bottom of the trusses, like where the ceiling would be. Plenty of room for the lift though. Always go bigger and taller than you think you need! I also wish he would have put radiant in the floor.

My red iron building I built last year included stamped drawings, but no foundation drawings. I had to contact a local architect to have them drawn up for the local building department here in NE Ohio. So be sure to account for that also.

Am I aloud to post my findings on who has given me the best quotes?
I believe so.

Here, an engineered foundation is not required. I'm not saying "not recommended" (especially if you're not familiar with your soil and foundation construction). The guys that install these buildings - I ALWAYS have them come out to set the weld plates in the foundation (for weld up).

Check with your building department.
When comparing prices look at the total weight. If everyone is looking at the same plans they should be within a few hundred pounds.
