I'll probably do some of them with a different color wash on each layer, as well as leave some natural. I definitely have to find a better way of aligning the layers.

I had thoughts of other objects when I bought the laser, but creating 3D-ish items, built up from multiple flat pieces, was what I got it for. The layers idea comes from me watching some whodunit on PBS, where actors were doing a play on the ocean, and the water was made up of several painted layers a few feet apart, and different parts of the action went on between the different layers of water. Like a boat sailing across in one, while a sea monster swims by in another.
Like the washes / stain idea. I'd suggest programming in a small notch on the bottom edge. Or better yet the top at 12 oclock then you can cut a D-hoop as a hangar which just happens to slot into the alignment notch.

Got rid of about 10 small packing boxes worth of stuff from the garage, digging out stuff to put in my new bookshelves. Got a bunch more boxes of old business and finance records I need to cull and sort for shredding. Feels good to pare down that pile in the garage.
Got the Suburban oil changed and some stuff lubed yesterday, and managed to successfully avoid attempting the transmission pan & filter swap today. Maybe Friday, maybe not for months. Have a bunch of other stuff that needs doing, including more furniture building starting next week.
More vehicle maintenance work tomorrow. Can't fit the Suburban all the way in the garage and close the door, so vehicle work has to be able to be done in a long day. And right now would be a very bad time to break exhaust bolts.
Made a 'Type 1' error buying a house with a sloped driveway, when I have a long history of keeping old vehicles and pulling maintenance on them at home.
Rayra you seem to be in constant motion and getting things done with a plan!

Oil change and tire rotation on my DD.
Managed to avoid:
-Drain oil running down my arm.
-Dropping the drain plug in the oil catch basin.
-Dribbling oil back to the used oil drums.
-Backing over the jack..uh nope did that...
I was able to reset the oil life counter and relearn the TPMS without looking up the procedures so, there's that.

Test Ran the 13 Horse powered generator, the carb was a little gummed up but fresh gas cleaned it out. Welded tie down rings on the small generator and painted the frame.

Repurposed steel looks a lot better with a coat of paint on it.

Garage adjacent again.

Once I started tearing apart my house, the pups had to stay in the mud room. Well, they did what pups do. Especially when they are alone for 12+ hours while I’m at work. 151648CE-BC97-470E-AD78-BEDA38F11717.jpeg

I got the carpet pulled and was extremely pleasantly surprised at the linoleum underneath.9C0A1388-EAC3-441B-A379-BA87FEEDA81C.jpeg I was wholly expecting to have to scrub and then have to paint or somehow seal the concrete to contain the smell of the urine. But nope. Some pine-sol and a mop and she cleaned right up. The house smells immensely better now.

Also loaded the Dakota up with some more garbage for another dump run Saturday. I was scheduled to work Saturday, but last minute it got canceled. So that freed up a dump run day!

Thx, more of a 'sequence' really, as I can get to things. I'm about a year behind where I wanted to be for this house. 3-4yrs ago the Missus and I were in L.A., our careers tied to the entertainment industry. Various changes, completing a long delayed degree, covid shutdown destroyed our careers, move to Vegas that had all sorts of challenges, got sick and hospitalized with covid, then trying to catch up, then my aged folks decided to move out of CA too and we spent most of 2021 facilitating their home search, renovations, moving them, destroying my own health again, wound up with a toe amputation. last two winters, lamed for both. My 'constant motion' is me desperately trying to 'catch up'. Xmas will be 2yrs in this house and we're still unpacking and getting rid of stuff. And still helping my folks as much as possible. I was just over there this afternoon hanging a big TV on the wall for them. Tomorrow I hang a grill guard on my Suburban, next week I commence building a huge dining hutch.
I'm supposed to be going back to school in January, training for my last official career (medical imaging tech), so I'm kinda desperate to get everything done here I can, before going back to school and work and before my folks' imminent decline.
I'm working far harder in "semi-retirement" than I ever have in prior careers. It's a race between me finishing my work and my work finishing me.

Today I just done a couple oil changes and some tidying up. Because I had a lot on my mind about the work situation which I’m getting ready to write about.

Had a chat with the big boss as well. Nothing bad at all just talking about the plans for me and everything like that.

The talk went nice today. My boss was very nice and reasonable and supportive like always. That’s one of the many reasons I work for this company. He basically begged me to run the new Toyota Express Lane so I finally agreed to it. We come to an agreement I would still be classified as a Subaru tech and still train for Subaru because this position is temporary he said he wanted someone competent to run the express lane to start off and get things going and he wants someone that can lead so he said when I think of those things I think of you, and then he named many various things I’ve done to benefit the company like spending my own money on tools that we need so I let everyone borrow and then training all the new people and running the shop by myself several times when I was the only one who bothered to show up for work or when all the managers were out and stuff like that. And pointed out he always knows I’m there and doesn’t have to worry about if I’m there or not. Plus the service manager who is at our Toyota franchise is the one who hired me and he thinks the world of me so I can’t let him down either. He got moved over there about 6 months ago. I miss seeing him everyday. The big boss looked me right in the eye and said that he is like you have to do this for him he is counting on you and I was like alright. And he is letting me take two techs with me because that helps my nerves a lot cause I’m one to get very nervous when I don’t know anyone and he understands that and respects it. Also letting me bring the service advisor that I feel most comfortable talking too because he is my age. I asked all of them if they would go for me and they said absolutely. We will all be coming back eventually probably in the next 3-6 months. I don’t want it to be a permanent position I want to get more years in the service setting before I go full on manager lol. He already has arrangements to have our tools moved via the company rollback. I know that’s going to drive my OCD up the wall cause everything is going to shift lol. I’ll have to fix it before I let anyone look at my stuff. It’s just right across and diagonal from where I’m at but I definitely ain’t moving my two giant pumpkins as everyone calls them lol. I still don’t feel the best about it but I’ve been assured multiple times by him and other managers that I’ll be fine and they aren’t going to let me fail. And he said my Subaru spot is my spot and no one else is taking it cause he knows that’s where my heart is at. I’m just glad I work somewhere that is always supportive of their employees and willing to work with them.

After our long talk and conversation I made sure to thank him for his time with me today.

Let's see some pics. I've been following your commentary on the build. Sounds like it's pretty much a done deal now.

I worked on picking up tools and supplies in the shop. The 4x8' sheets of drywall are still hogging up space and we're becoming an extension of workbench space. Good news is they are cleared off. Next step is making them go away! 👍😁

Added this BelAir script to my mini split.
Todd

When I first saw the small attached image on my iPad and the text I thought you add a mini split to your car. I had a 64 vette that was stolen and never recovered back in the mid 70s. It was my first car. A few years ago I bought one of each of the badges on 64s and mounted them in honor of that car. I also had an American flag (burned in wood) made that also had the vette etched in and these things are handing in the garage. Attached is a close up image of the flag and another showing several things on one of the walls, including that flag and the mounted badges above it.

Did you paint that housing with the same paint as the car? Looks great either way.
Also a great play on words. a mini split in a garage is indeed 'beautiful air'
Thanks..
The housing is not painted. The script I got at a car show from a vendor called Speedcult.com. They make tons of that kind of stuff in steel. I painted it black and used double sided tape to mount it.
The play on words is just a coincidence. When I bought the script, I didn't know what I was going to do with it. I seen it and had to have it kinda thing. I look up at the split and thought, wonder what it would look like up there. The rest is what you see.

I'm a bit derelict following this thread, but... I wanted to note:
I was at a "street fair/farmers market" thing about a month ago, and one vendor was making little boxes with cut panels like what you've created above, using what appears to be a material very similar -very thin plywood. Some of them were quite ornate. The large units (which were about 5" x 5") with hinged lids were selling for about $250, as I recall. The smaller boxes were in the $100-$125 range.

;)

Just not my style. I'm a simple girl. I sure as hell wouldn't pay $100 for a little fancy box. So, I make simple, inexpensive things. Nice enough stuff the below average Joe/Jill can easily afford without taking food out of anyone's mouth. Good thought though.

^ Just letting you know that there are people out there who are paying crazy money for that kind of stuff. I wouldn't pay that for a 5" square box either, and boxes are something I collect! (Russian lacquer ones are a favorite.)

Made an angled rack for the little compressor, so the drain hole is on the bottom. Hooked up the bottom drain to a foot pedal. Reorganized the paint cans. Cleaned up. Pulled the Burg out. Put it back several hours later.

Was in the garage looking for a carb gasket kit for the bike when my next door neighbor came over and asked me if I had any gas. Yes - I do have some gas. Then she shared why she needed it - she had backed into a fence and the black paint had come off on her bumper. She's a widow - mid to late 80's at least.
Hmmm - i don't think you need gas for that. Here - I have some Goof Off - you should try this. Actually, let's go look and make sure it works. Ten minutes later and it's clean except for where she knocked the paint off the bumper.
Well I didn't mean for you to do it!
Well I wanted to make sure it worked....
(And I didn't want her walking off with a gas soaked dish rag to rub on her car)

In the old days we used a gas soaked dish rag to wipe paint smudges off cars. We used gas for all kinds of stuff that folks shudder over nowadays.

I'm aware - I grew up in the era where gasoline was the universal solvent. That's why I dug a little deeper on why she wanted some.
We have better things now.
She is a very independent woman - it was also a way for me to take care of it for her without her asking me to.

White gas/Naphtha/camp fuel IS the "old gas, and I still use it for a lot of things... (Look for the "active ingredient" for most of thos e"magic" chemicals - Naphtha...)

Is there a thread yet for things we have used gas for other then it's intended use?
If not, someone needs to start one.
