So we hit some sales yesterday and I picked up an 8 piece Lisle Torx bit set for $3.00. I don't run into Torx too often but the price was right.

I came home and my son stopped by with his new to him "beater" - a 1999 Chevy Suburban and he needed a large Torx bit to remove the cargo hold downs in the back of the truck. We used the new to me bits to remove the hold downs and I gave him the set for when he reassembles.

I don't have a pic of the bit set but I did take 2 of the Burb. 160K miles and almost totally rust free.

Cheers

All three are true. My intent and interest, since the box obviously didn't come from the W.B. Mathews Co., was to find the bookend dates of the company's operation in S.A. Was it a major firm (Aircraft Division) or just a flash in the pan post-war start-up?
BTW, the receiver's signature on the receipt matches the name scratched on the inside of the folding lid. :D

First I've seen in the wild.
Oh that’s right. I forgot that you are down there😉. The mid west and east coast got all the good stuff.

A couple finds from this weekend....

10 inch Diamond "Wide Opening" adjustable...not pristine shape, but for 2 bucks I couldn't say no.
Craftsman KromEdge round file, unused.
Craftsman 8pc SAE "SuperTuff" in unused shape.
Older Craftsman 1/4 ratchet
Really Small Snap On 44P pliers. Turns out their pretty collectable.
Craftsman punch set. I bought it because I hadn't seen any Heritage logo stamped leather. Its awfully dry, was pegboard hanging in a basement workshop for decades, not sure what I should do to the leather, if anything.

Dave, the 3 in the date code of your Air-O Light, is March, the 9 is likely 29? (not an expert on the older lanterns - lots of models and most looked similar - the devil is in the details...)

WG I'm guessing the tent is long gone?

I've got to admit, I've never seen a collection of typewriter ribbon tins. First on your block to have one?? I suspect they're becoming harder to find than some of the tools seen on this thread!
I think true. most small tins just got (and get) tossed, so vintage/antique ones are often hard to come by. Some exceptions of course. (Prince Albert" anyone?)

tent part is in there but warned by owner to wear haz-suits because of massive nastiness, mold etc. New and last used 2012.

A solo trip to Jake’s Flea this morning. I was sure I picked up two Wizard wrenches…hmmm, must have set it down or dropped it - bummer. C931ED43-AD11-4919-970E-03FDD7F7E199.jpeg8CAE5FFF-9D10-42F0-B46C-BD879F86C19E.jpeg
The S-doe is Winchester (better stamp and less than 20% price of the last one I saw). Happy with the Stanley Torx drivers. SO overstrike socket, two 1/4 and one 11/32 Bonney LocRite combos, Merit electrical wrench, Vlchek (I think) W1012, two Blue Point nut drivers that are dead ringers for Bridgeport one I already have.
MrsLS was not pleased the second time she called to remind me she needed the car, so I missed a couple rows and sheds.

Read up on shaving cream for the leather. A lot of guys use it to restore ball gloves I believe.

I was so bemused by the suggestive illustration, I failed to notice the CrowderJr Co location, which is local to me. I cannot say whether I’ve used their services, but the company is still in business. Their website is not.

Me too! Pinup worthy. Vaguely Marilynesque. But I did notice the ABE.
Just because this is GJ!

Finally able to get pics uploaded from Fridays escapade.
Recently purchased a 10L ultrasonic cleaner. So they’ve been rotated through that and shined up.

Wiss was about all that was used when I worked in both the drapery and upholstery shops, when I was in HS. I have a bunch of them, most sizes.

Those Comet Pliers are cool! I didn't know P. S. & W. had "brands" besides PEXTO

The one on the left looks like a factory Ford Ranger jack from the 80s. I will get you a picture of mine in the next couple of days to compare it with.
Here are some pictures of my rangers jack the larger trucks also used this style of jack although I suspect they were larger

Couple of different flavors, just in this catalog (a later one by number) I think I have a different one where they have a "bargain" section too.

Forest City Nail Hammers

Blackbird Nail Hammers

Star Rivet Pliers

Comet obviously, but also PESCO

Make sure the shaving cream has lanolin in it. If it doesn't it will most likely just dry the leather out further. A few applications of any leather conditioner should help considerably.

I agree, Neatsfoot oil. I have a heavy leather belt that is nearing 55 years old -I still use it, and it's in great shape. - Neatsfoot oil...

Neatsfoot oil is derived from the oil of the marrow of cattle bones, its "native" to the leather...

Don;t be fooled with the "new blends - not the same stuff.

I remember using neatsfoot oil and then using a really strong rubber band to hold a ball in the perfect spot to form the pocket… in the 70’s.

We didn’t have none of that fancy stuff, forget what we used, but stuffed them under the mattress to get the shape.

OR , I believe your toolbox first appeared in 1939 , and by 1945 it was replaced with a Heritage badge box. 1st pic 1939,2nd pic 1942,3rd pic 1941. I believe the catalogs in 43,44 were light on mechanics tools as the war efforts continued.
To further complicate these dating procedures I found a graphic that shows ,what I believe to be the logo on your,(Old Radar) as a 1936 Jubilee logo based upon this picture:305465514_10224767698093352_8800103086934696192_n.jpg
The underline is present in the 1936 logo (and on your box) but not on the logo we would associate with your 1939 box as the 1938 logo. So...blah ,blah ,blah I'd bet your box is 1939 first run.

Al--thanks for the info! I have a couple of questions.
1. You lost me on the last sentence. It seemed you were making an argument for a 1936 Jubilee box but then put your money on 1939.
2. Until I saw your post, I didn't register the fact that logo on the wrench clip that was in the box is slightly different than the one on the box--and slightly different than the one labeled 1938 on your graphic. Did you mean that 1938 logo is normally associated with the box?
3. Where did you get the graphic and are those your notes?

Here are closeups of my decals

Well as near as I can tell that box was not available in a catalog until 1939. The logo graphic was posted on a Craftsman Group on Facebook by Jim Lovelace. I cannot be certain they are 100% accurate.

craftsman labels.jpg

What we do know is Craftsman in the 1930's is very hard to pin down exactly. I can find no mention of your box before 1939,but if the graphic above is true ,same logo as 1936. The other thing we do know is there was overlap/use of inventory/ changes in mfgs. and even availability by region.
