I hate privacy fences, their like a damn prison. My wife and I love gardening and landscape designing. I'd prefer a gate to kind of match my design on other projects.
It's a sunburst style. I built my deck railings and had our seamless steel siding company to the same on our ranch style home make gable end panels. I should take photo's and measurements for you. So for a gate I want the design as well. This gate will be between us and a neighbors, they have a typical wood privacy fence.

We want it fairly wide gate.
A sliding barn door is cool.

Twin doors with a center rod/pipe to lock the two together, but with hamming a tube into the ground for the rod to go into, I'm going to get water, dirt and debris filling it up and rusting. We have dogs so the gate has to be strong because they push on it. One's a Boxer,..very strong.
What's your ideas ?

How wide is "fairly wide"? How heavy is it going to be? I have a pretty lightweight 10' swinging gate I got at Tractor Supply. I added a wheel to support it, and it swings open nice and easy on my gravel drive.

I'll get more details, maybe tomorrow, but around 8' to 10' from our house to the property line. I don't know how a wheel would work, as the ground is uneven. Unless it had a shock or spring. lol

Some doors at my work have a lock pin that goes down into the floor, which have a spring-loaded plunger in the floor insert to keep debris from falling into the hole. Something like that could keep the rocks and junk from falling into your gate center rod/pipe, but you would probably have to make it go into the ground deeper and maybe set it up like a drywell with holes in the sides, deeper than a normal pipe like that, and fill around it with gravel for drainage. OR, like another outside gate we have, a round 6 inch x about 1 inch high "traffic turtle" type bump with a 1-1/2 inch slot in it. I'll try and remember to get a picture of it tomorrow...

Can you post a link for those lock pins if different ?

Spring-loaded plunger in the floor insert. Is one included in any of these ?

maybe browse kingsmetal site catalog and see what design you have then select the hinges that you needed... they have some hinge pairs that are rated up to 2000lbs weld on and grease ******* for metal gates.. even for wood ones as well I think. I got their normal barrel hinges for my metal gate, works fine for me and can carry me plus door fine.

Here it is! It got hit by a snowplow a few times and sort of survived and still works! You could probably use a piece of channel steel, weld a couple stakes to the bottom, and drive flush to ground

I don't have pictures handy, but years ago built a bi-fold gate, like a closet door. Span was about 20', so four 5' sections with heavy duty hinges. Steel posts on each side set in concrete. Gates had stained wood panels between the steel stiles.

We would I need for a gate openers for the 4' main gate and would this be a good option for the second gate, to open when we have something wider than 4' gate ?

With our yard sloping down, the gate will have to open in, not out. So I think this ''Gate Bolt Hook'' would center the gate in the middle of the "4x4" post on each side. Need four. (Amazon is lowered prices)

Search Results for Gate Bolt Hook at The Home Depot

LIST TO CHOSE FROM - (galvanized is almost rust free, Zink would have to be painted, but we'll paint the gate white anyway. Stainless is great, but expense)

Then what latch's would be best ?

Would I need this cane bolt drop rod ?

This is the type of gate we want. Left side to use all the time, right to open when needed. I can pound 1" x 10" (or 12") long iron or galvanize length of pipe to hammer into the ground. We have a Boxer and Terrier that like to charge the gate to see who's there, do this gate has to be STRONG ! (big doggy proof) 🤣
