What's an old Columbian vise worth?

Came across a 5" Columbian vise, covered with surface rust but it doesn't look like it's ever been used, jaws are like new. The jaws are dovetailed with no screws holding them in, is that standard on old columbians? Worth $65?

I'm on the fence, my 4" Reed has always been enough vise for everything I have thrown at it.

It depends on if you really want it or not. Columbian used to make excellent vises, but I wouldn't touch a new one. $65 isn't too bad but $50 would be a lot better. Any Columbian with the T-shaped jaws that I've seen has been of the superior quality of old, so you should be ok. However, your 4" Reed is likely to be built beefier than the 5" Columbian just because thats the way Reed was. Find a 6" Reed and you've really moved up in the world. Anyway, just my two cents. I love vises, if you haven't noticed :bounce:

Same here, I too am a vise lover. I have TWO rock islands, TWO columbians with the "T" shaped jaws, and I just bought a "T" jaw Rigid off of eBay. All of my stuff is made in the USA, long, long time ago.

That's awesome. The Ridgid sounds neat. I thought that Ridgid vises were made in Germany. Do you have them posted on the vise pictures thread?

I've got two columbians, one wilton, one anchor industries brand (has a story to it that I will tell when I post it on the other thread), and I've just about finished restoring my favorite: a reed 4C.

What's an old vise worth?

Hi I just came across 3 old vises and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they may be worth. One Columbian, one Fuller and one unknown.

The Columbian C43 made in Cleveland OH USA is opens to 4 1/2 Inches

The Fuller is a huge vise and looks like it opens to about 7 inches

and the smaller unknown vise opens to 5 inches it just has a number 4 on it.

I have attached pictures of all 3 below.

Thanks

I've seen the "4" unmarked one sold as an Allied. Can't find any online info though. (Chinese)

That looks a lot like the old Craftsman vises. Great "Jetsons" styling on those.

Where are you located? I might be interested in that one. I recently sold a Craftsman version of one of those and I'm sort of sorry now.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but many years ago a Ridgid vise was made in the good old U.S. of A. They're rare but there are still a few around.

What model number ridgid is that? I bought one similar that is like brand new. It has a 45FCPN stamped into the boss on the side opposite of the ridgid logo. Then a 604 on the underside of the swivel. Haven't seen much online about them, just the newer models with the same part numbers. Any idea of age?
