I put away the pool equipment. Frustrated that I don't have the garage organized enough to put those items in their designated places. I threw away a few items but not enough.
I started the bug, rolled it out and did a preflight check, driving it to work in the AM.

Fixed my screw up from the campground a couple weeks ago. My '01 Silverado I "re-positioned" in the pitch dark, with no headlights on, (and maybe a few too many ), to make room for another's rig. Bottom driver's side plastic trim piece caught a big log. You know the sound. Cracked the factory holes and broke the original plastic rivet things. Been driving with zip-ties holding it on that I put on that night. Cut the remaining plastic rivets out and just replaced with 1/4"x20's and fender washers. Did the routine oil and filter while up in the air. Makes the fix for the screw up end on a positive note?(y)

Had a small leak at the rear of the intake manifold. Yeah I'm still running the stock manifold on the 351 Cleveland hence the hoist. The stock heads can breath though, the intake ports are almost 2" wide, and close to 2 and 1/2 inches high.

It's so nice not having to drain the coolant or remove the distributor.

Well, it was at my in-laws' garage (2 states away), but I brought the tools from my garage :) ...

Finished repairing the LF wheel speed sensor/tone-ring on their 2014 Dodge Journey. I had replaced the ABS sensor over Labor Day, but was still getting a DTC for a bad tone wheel signal. The "tone wheel" is actually a reluctance ring that is pressed to the back side of the wheel bearing/hub - it is not available as a separate part, so it has to be replaced with the wheel hub.
old vs new hub with explanation.jpg

Then I took a drive and mapped out the wheel speeds that were read. No more DTCs :)

Today I replaced a double T12 light fixture in one of my out buildings with an LED unit. This was a test run to see how it compares to the fluorescent fixture, to help me determine if I wanna replace all the T12 fixtures in my shop with LED. So far, I'm leaning toward "yep". I am definitely replacing the oldest ones this week, they buzz so loud, sometimes I leave them off just so I can hear myself think!

Bunch of little things, (took most of the day off from work):

Found a small (converted First aid kit) box of tools (hiding in the Tvan...) and added those to the blow mold carry box for the van.

Put stuff away...

Replaced O-rings in the Coleman 519 radiant heater in prep for hunting

Reassembled the loose parts on the Tiny Tiger 300 W generator I picked up a couple months back, No apparent pieces missing. Tried to do some research on the carb for the one I've had for over 35 years.

Parts run:

screwed 1/2" box to conduit couplers into four 1" PVC tees, then cut the 1" section into a saddle. Those with a couple of lengths of EMT will make the tent trailer canopy so its not collecting water if its not pulled super tight (I plan a slight upwards bow to the conduit)

Put more stuff away...

Changed Oil in the car my mom gave us when she stopped driving last April (92 - Now in assisted living).

I replaced all the fluorescents in my shop and Judy's studio with LED, in pretty much one go. It turned dark flickery workspaces into virtual operating theatres. All the double T12 and T8 fixtures were traded for HF shop lights. They've been amazing. Only one out of 40 has gone funny, unlike the constant changing of bulbs n ballasts in the fluorescents.

I got these ones, cause they easily can be attached to drywall hat track with 2 screws.

Same here, Eight 4' shop florescent's replaced with Costco specials Plus 2 Quad F. lights in the screen room with 2 shop lights. Those are better than the quads! None have gone bad Its been several years.

Funny, that's the exact same LED fixture that I am prototyping right now! The HF Braun 5000. I like it so far. It's much brighter than the old T12 fixture. And QUIETER. That dang ballast buzzing gets on my nerves.

I look forward to actually being able to see in the winter too. The fluorescent fixtures are pretty slow to warm up in the cold. Some don't come on at all.

My first Costco led shop light failure, with only ocassional usage it failed at the 5 year mark. Need to remember to bring it back the next time I do a Costco run.

Took the malfunctioning on/off rocker switch out of my HF drill press. Then I went on a journey to local box stores and auto parts looking for a replacement DPST rocker switch that would fit. Got a close one at Lowes, but may have to order it.

A couple weeks ago I dragged home a backup basement fridge that I found for free. It was dirty but in working order, though someone had obviously set it down hard at some point as the back wheels were bashed up into the housing. Last night I finally got around to tipping it over, removing the old wheels, bending the brackets straight, and replacing the wee little axels with stainless bolts and nylock nuts. Fridge rolls nice and smooth now!

Now to finish cleaning it out and make it a new home in the basement...

Made up some organizers for my miscellanous drill accessories. A simple maple block shaped to fit a sardine can. The holes (27 each) are drilled to 17/64" but can be easily enlarged as needed. The spacing is 5/8" along the long and 1/2" along the width. The holes are drilled through, the can stops everything from dropping out of the bottom.

This used to be an exterior wall. So this had been an exterior window. At one point.

Well. Somehow a pane got busted and someone replaced it with this piece of DS. There had been storm windows in it at one point in its life.

Well, work was slow, and we had some storm window scrap laying around in the shop from a job last week (we charge by the foot for the extrusion and square footage for the glass). Got my measurements in the AM before work, cut everything after work, drove home and installed everything. $50 isn’t too bad I don’t think. Sure beats the DS wedged in there and taped up for insulation Lmao.

My OCD is wanting me to swap the middle out to the newer material, if only for the sake of having matching material that isn’t painted over 1000 times.

The wood frame will be sanded and painted eventually. This was just a side project as material was available and was otherwise scrap heap bound.

Took my brides broke spring curling iron to the garage and replaced the spring. Does that count as "in the garage", or even as a repair. She is happy though so I guess I'm okay.

The shop stool is done.

Here’s the old vinyl cover I pulled off before painting.

Watched a couple YouTube videos. Looks easy.

I reused the burlap padding instead of modern foam. It held up this long, why change it?

This is probably a lot easier if you’re doing a bar stool top and don’t have the legs in the way. It’s not perfect. It wasn’t perfect when I started. It’s good enough.

Welp, I replaced the noisiest quad T12 fixture in my shop (it was a double length fixture, like this ==). It was in a corner over my parts bins. I hung two of the Braun 5k LEDs, but I hung them in an L shape in the corner. They are actually kinda too bright. The other building I was trying them in has a much higher ceiling, so I didn't have to see the actual LED tube in my line of sight. In a lower ceiling, in my opinion, they are pretty harsh. Luckily I had enough extra chain, I put a 3rd chain in the center and tipped them toward the walls. Now they are bearable, lol.

Kinda sucked taking that old fixture down. It was enameled steel like a bathtub, and heavy as hell. I couldn't just let it fall, I had a bunch of junk beneath it (of course!). Plus, it was hard wired, so I had to install a junction box and run two outlets off it. Good times. But at least I don't have to hear that incessant buzzing anymore!

My ceilings are 8', so I've learned to look level. Looking up into them is not quite as bright as looking into the sun. But, when you need surgical light levels they kick ***.
