Alright guys it’s going to get cold in MN again and I need to insulation my septic mound. Can I use concrete blankets to insulate for the winter?

I've seen mounds here in WI with straw on them for the winter. Covering the straw with plastic to keep it dry would really help.

You'd be surprised how much 6" of hay or straw will insulate things.
Once I had to defrost the ground here in Maine for a well line installation. The ground heater came with a bunch of concrete blankets that you lay on the ground above the hot water lines from the heater. There weren't enough so I used some hay and covered it with poly for the few days that it took to thaw the ground. The little bit of snow that fell during this time melted on the concrete blankets and accumulated on the poly on the hay portion.
So I'd say hay is a lot better than the blankets.

A neighbour short-cuts for a visit. His path took him right over the neighbour's septic tank. As the story go, the rotted top collapsed, and the wandering neighbour fell into the tank system. He started yelling for help and shouting, I CANNOT SWIM." The owner of the collapsed tank said, "Swimming is easy, just go through the movements."

Interesting, I am in Minnesota and have a mound septic system. I have never heard of insulating it and have not had any issues in nearly eight years here now. Many neighbors have mound systems too and nobody insulates them.

It will depend upon the weather. If there is an early snow that stays, the snow will insulate the ground. No snow, and extremely cold temps will drive the frost down deep.
Years ago, it was well into January, and we had no snow yet, and the temps were well below zero for a week or two. My neighbors drain field froze, and he had to have the septic tank pumped every week for the rest of the winter.
