Motodavid,
I knew these signs were expensive but wow! Looking at that site really was impressive. I think I will keep my eye out for estate sales etc. and know when I see a great deal. I’m sure most people know the value of the signs, but you never know when you may find a deal. Congrats on a truly inspirational garage. My father was also a veteran of wars and the values I learned from him are un-measureable.

Nighttrain -

Keep an eye out at garage sales and estate sales. A dealer friend of mine had an amateur collector find a rare gas globe that sold for $25 at a garage sale and was later sold to a serious collector for over $25,000 ! It happens.

+1 on your father and all of the other vets who made such great sacrifices for our country. You have my never ending respect and gratitude. It is amazing what can be learned from someone who has been in combat.

Motodavid,

I have to say that you have a beautiful example of what a dream garage could and can look like. I am very impressed with your range of cars and your great collection of oil/gas memorabilia. Seeing another example like this always gives me a motivational boost to strive to succeed.

I must say that I am happy to see you chose Lambo over the "other" Italian auto maker. I too am partial to the 'bull' and have heard many stories of the reliability nightmares that the Ferrari brand can be.

This is the first time I have seen someone with a collection of gas pump globes. Very nice. That is something to be proud of and I am sure it is worth quite a bit to any serious collector.

Thanks again for sharing!!

dezigninmotion -

Thank you sincerely for your kind comments and liking the Lambos. Don't get me wrong, I like the Ferraris, but a Lambo is my cup of Italian tea....and they drive better than they look -- if that is possible !

Awesome garage and cars! Also, very cool that you went to Purdue (I graduated in 2002 and am originally from Lafayette) but live in Zionsville now.

Just found this thread. Awesome collection of cars and memorabilia. Like some others on here, I might just be a little bit more impressed by the globes and signs (especially the Sinclair stuff) than the cars.

Thank you for sharing.

BTW - My wifes a Boilermaker as well. She'd probably say "Boiler-Up!" but as a Miami grad, I just call it Pur-don't... :bounce:

I have a few years on you, but Purdue University gave me a great start in my professional career.

Im going to go against the grain here and say I could care less about the globes and oil cans. They're cool to look at, just not my cup of tea, especially when surrounded by so many fast cars. Thats a beautiful collection of cars. Do you race any of them?

Better not let your wife know you have a hot girl in the garage checking out your collection!
;)

Good to hear from you again Nighttrain & thanks for following the posts ! Who says the hot girl in my Lambo is not my wife ?

srmofo - I have had both of the Vipers on the track and the 1997 has been on the Las Vegas Motor Speedway during a Viper event several years ago. Not a race, but a driving / teaching event with instructors on 3/4 of the oval and all of the infield course. It was a really good session and lots of fun.

The Vegas oval course is pretty great. (One hard transition point notwithstanding.)

I agree. For me, it was always "interesting" to transition out of the pits, onto the course apron and then up onto the track itself as that transition was a "jolt" to the chassis and it wanted to yank the wheel a bit - especially running big rubber in the front. Then back off the oval into the infield course and back on the apron and the track for each lap. I learned a lot of skills driving that course with a mix of oval speeds and infield cornering.

I just got ride of that exact same TV. I can say that I truly feel bad for whomever had to carry it up those spiral stairs. Those had to be the heaviest tube TV ever made. Our's sunk the feet of the stand into our flooring so bad it left dents in the subfloor.

Very nice garage and collection of fine transportation units you have there!

I like the infield course at LV Motor Speedway. I was on a motorcycle training school & we never used any of the oval but it still makes me grin when I think about it.

:scared: HA !! You are speaking from experience - it was a VERY heavy POS for sure. Works well, but oh man is it heavy. I was hoping that the spiral staircase would hold two men PLUS the TV. Yikes!! I have an extra flatscreen that I could put up there, but I am too hesitant to bring the "big-girl" down the stairs again.

I see that your name is GASGAS. Do you ride a GasGas moto? I recently sold my CRF450R, but still have my trusty, unbreakable XR400 woods bike. Long story, but I have been riding dirt for over 40 years, and street bikes for over 30 years. My knees and hips are about done though. Had knee surgery in 2008 and the results are only mixed, at best.

Thanks for looking and for the comment on the TV - right on the mark!!

 Thank you for looking and for the nice comments regarding both the garage and the business challenges within the current economy, as well as the impending economic disincentives vis-a-vis the current administration's clear distaste for success, honest profits and their general dislike of the pursuit of happiness within a free-market economy.

As far as Esso and Exxon signs, the best I can do is the following set of Esso and Essolene gas globes on the 2nd from the bottom shelf, and the oval Esso globe from Australia.

I have indeed looked at the ZR1, but have not yet driven one. Impressive numbers for sure. I am also considering the Ferrari F430. No decisions yet, however.

Yes, I have a GasGas MC 125. Bored out to a 144 cc. It works really nice in the woods and on the track. I've been riding for 28 years on various street and trail bikes, XR's and a couple gasgas bikes now. I had a 750 interceptor back in the day. I plan to keep riding as long as I can but this will be my last year for mx. Between the carpenter work and the racing it takes a toll on the body. :lol_hitti

Small world. My Mom and Dad met at Purdue. We lived in married student housing in West Lafayette when I was very young and Dad was getting his PhD. That was about 1974 and I can still remember a parade of streakers running down the road in front of the building that winter. I vividly remember a ******* a horse and a guy on roller skates being pulled behind her by the horse's tail. I was in kindergarden but I can remember it like it was yesterday. If you graduated in 1978 you might have been a naked freshman in that crowd.

Beautiful garage and car collection.

I noticed the spiral staircase. My garage build starts this week (hopefully--builder is not as enthusiastic as I am, in spite of the challenged economy) and I feel compelled to ask a rude question: How much did the spiral stairs cost and where did you get them.

My build has a loft which is designed with a traditional set of stairs. A spiral staircase would save a great deal of space plus it would look very cool.

Brother - isn't that the truth. Don't forget the age - the years pile up quickly and the knees and hips say "enough already" when it comes to dirt bikes. You are only young once.

Ha! LMAO - I lived at married student housing also, just behind Owen Hall where I was a Waiter Captain running the kitchen for $2.22 per hour. Days gone by. Yes, I remember the "streakers" very well - it was rountine around Cary Quad and Owen Hall. What a scream - especially in the dead of winter!

Thanks for the kind words on the garage. Sincerely appreciated. As far as the spiral stairs go, I don't remember the cost. I had the enture staircase powder coated and I wanted all welded connections and steel handrail. Erie Spiral Staircase is the best around. Shipping can be a hassle due to the fact the staircase is fully assembled and welded, so it will need to be shipped via flatbed trailer. I suggest NOT getting a screwed / bolted kit. Much weaker connections and wobbly. My welded staircase is rock solid.

I love this post. One can make an entire site off all the details in your garage and collections alone.

I really like the garage, is "7" a lucky number?

I have to admit that I'm most fascinated by the lighted signs and the globes shown lighted.

The globes which appear to have the CFL do look really bright and almost an eerie hospital white tone to them. I favor the old standard incandescent bulb to lite them. They just have a warmth and old school glow about them with those bulbs. Guess that I'm still very much an old romantic for that sort of stuff.

And I don't know if I'd missed it or not. I was hopping to see an old style "Champion" air compressor restored on display. I have a couple of old Champions, a model "K" about 70 years old (horizontal opposed compound twin) and a R-7 about a '47 (vertical side by side compound twin).

Great collection of collections.

One Word! "Gorgeous"

Very nice stable of cars and the collection of Gas Pump Glodes is like a museum. Where dose one find all these? Are they reproductions or old units?

Thanks for sharing.

porschedude996TT -

Thanks for looking and the comments. The antique gas globe collection consists of 99.99% originals. I have 2 or 3 reproduction globes that I am in the process of liquidating, as I want the gas & oil collection to be 100% originals - globes, signs and pumps. My one "visible style" gas pump is a repro also (by the large Coke sign), but I am looking for the "right / original" visible pump to buy. All of the other pumps, globes and porcelain signs are originals.

Wow, that is one amazing garage! Thanks for sharing :D

Sure thing, I'll ask him. He is 72 but has the heart and mind of a 20 year old. Next time I see him I'll ask him. I think he has about 12 of them. My favorite is his Pantera...I know, I know......how could I take a Pantera over a Ferrari? Something about it is so sweet. LOL.......I'll see what I can do.

The GT5 is a nice car,but a Mangusta has more curb appeal,to me anyway. There was a nice one in Vero Beach ,where I used to live, all original and low mileage....very clean car.

David....what can I say that hasn't been said yet?You have very nice taste and the means to back it up.Have you considered an LP640 or a LP560 Superleggera?Last time I was in Vegas,my wife and I stopped by the Lambo dealer and they had a Reventon(thought I overheard the sales assoc. say it was #14) what a nice car.My wife said I turned into a drooling sack of speechlessness when I saw it.here is a pic of it.Also, nice to see the '99 R1.I had a 98,an '02 and 04 which I still have(all blue) and just got a BMW S1000RR.

Well, you have a great collection and glad you enjoy driving/riding what you have and not letting them be garage queens.Use them for what they are.

Motodavid, An amazing collection(s) and beautiful garage!

As one who is a Veteran, I appreciate your comments concerning Veterans. It was not always easy and at times it was down right hard but it was truly my honor to serve for 30 years. Your comment means more to Veterans than you will ever know.

Thank you!

got to be one of my favorite threads

webbs2jzgte -

I got a very good, practical education from Purdue University many, many years ago.

you know i was originally going to get a ME degree from there but it wouldn't be what i would enjoy doing on a daily basis. from a money standpoint i can see where it would be a good idea but i would rather work on custom cars all day then at a desk designing the catalytic converters. its a shame there is no money in car repair unless you own the shop. money isn't everything but unfortunately in this country money = freedom. anyway sorry to rant great collection!
