I have a insulated 10x16 garage door on my pole building. Unless I lift it to about 2/3 way up it will come back down on its own. Is this the way it is supposed to be or should it stay in any position? Thanks
I thought so. It has been this way since new. (3 years ago) I should have had him back right away, sure it is too late now. ThanksShould stay up. I noticed the last month or so that the 12w x 14h door at my business was starting to want to creep down the same way. Got up on the ladder and put about 1/2 turn on the springs and took care of it.
watch you tube videos on adjusting. basically you use 2, 3/8" extensions to walk the drum tighter or looser
No door opener yet. I am planning on getting a wall mounted one and thought this door is too heavy for it as adjusted now.Do you have a garage door opener? This might be close to spec. You should be able to download the instructions for your door online and confirm exactly what needs to be done.
I have watched a couple videos since posting this. I think I will give it a try. ThanksHere's a video that shows the balance points and how to test the door:
If you are at 2/3, it shouds like you are a little weak on the springs, but you will want to test the other directions of play to make sure you don't have any other issues going on.
I did not know that. I will install the opener before I have them come out to adjust. Thank you.If you are thinking about an opener like a Liftmaster 8500 you might want to hold off on the adjustment. They use gravity to close the door so your door may be just right at this time. It may need adjustment when the opener is installed so no use paying for a separate adjustment now.
