New shop build. 60x40

Hey everyone, finally got to post something here!

We moved into this place last July, and one of the conditions (with the wife) was that I get a shop, the last shop, as this is our "last home". So we went big.

60x40. Heated floors. 2 10x10 overheads and only one man-door. 2 post lift in the far bay, a parking bay, and the rest for projects, hangout, lounge area.

Heated floors with back up gas overhead heater. 14' ceilings and an attic loft for storage. Started planning last year, digging May 1 2022, floors poured a couple weeks ago and trusses delivered today. Framing next week, hopefully.

Was orginally going to go with 12's. But really saw no use for them.

I have a 40 by 50 with a 12 foot ceiling, and am very happy with it. But if I could do one thing different, I would put in scissors trusses and a taller door in order to accommodate an RV. I don't own one now and I may never own one (or I might). But I wish now that I had the option and it may make the building more attractive to the next owner (even if that's after I'm long gone).

I regret having 10' doors. Wish I would have went with 12's.

And here I went with 8' doors. Still pleased with that choice 4 years later. Some folks have no need/want/desire for a RV. Larger doors equal less insulation and more heat loss/gain when opened to pull a car in/out.

Same here. Love that I went 12' wide, but should have done 12' tall.

To each their own. I built a 38 x 44 in 2019 with no intention of owning any sort of rv or trailer. Then covid happened and in 2021 bought a 23 foot travel trailer of a neighbor for a sweet deal. Things change and I wish I had those 12 foot doors now, which I debated when designing the shop.

I have no need to put an RV inside. We own a small trailer park, we have 6 trailers on the property. Our personal Travel trailers goes to off side heated winter storage. The shop is mainly for my own tinkering and rebuilding/restoring vehicles, as well as getting my junk out of the yard. lol

My door is 12x12, not for an RV but so you can bring in something like an 8' tall bandsaw on a trailer or pickup bed. I had standard 7' door 2 shops back and hated it the whole time.

Really, go with at least 12' x 12'

That looks like a lot of trusses to go either direction.

Future is a fickle thing - taller doors don't have to be opened all the way to move something in and out. I rarely open my 14' tall door all the way but when I need to it sure is easier than putting in a bigger door.

Awesome build - if I was to do it again I would have done 40x60. I am now in the process of planning covered parking spots to make up for lack of interior space.

That's going to be a very nice building. You could place your headers at 12' and then frame in for 10', that way it would be easy to change one or both in the future if it was needed. My door is at 12' and I have needed it all a couple of times.

Yeah, hope my post didn't make the OP mad.

I currently have a 30' x 35' building that's next to useless to me because the doors are too short for what I'd like to store in it. Reworking it isn't super feasible nor is tearing it down and building new in it's place. Little bit of a sore subject with me right now.

You don't have anything to be concerned about.

Same here. Love that I went 12' wide, but should have done 12' tall.

That should be the minimum imo. Also 10x10 roll ups don't have chain hoist/electric open options.
