You'll get to love the Vampliers.
I used them this evening.

Found a yard stake that hadn't been put away from when we reseeded our lawn. It had 4 staples for the yellow tape still in it. Close to the wood. Out of habit, I grabbed a screwdriver and a pair of dykes and then remembered the Vampliers. Wow! Grabbed these staples without having to pry them up off the wood surface super easy.

As long as I remember I have them, I think they'll be great when needed.

Snap-On Tech Angle 5-100ft/lb
EBay find, paid about 1/3 of new cost, has recent calibration sticker and seems to function fine. Of course I will get it checked.

This is my first digital torque wrench and to be honest my initial impressions aren’t good. Seems to be really easy to over shoot the desired value unless you go really slow? Is this something you get a feel for with more use?

I have a 1/2” PI slip beam which I really love and was looking for a smaller 3/8” version when I stubbled on this one. Wondering if I should “trade” this for a split beam or hold out and give it time.

Would definitely hold onto that if I got it for that price. While I am not lucky enough to own a Tech Angle all of my digital torque wrenches (Eclatorq and Gearwrench) seems to like slow and steady as they approach the desired torque setting. Probably even more important in low torque situations where a little bit more finesse is needed.

I wish I would of got a green one. Mine is orange. But my dealer gave me a good price on it at the time. Mine is also black, not chrome.

I've only used it a few times though to be honest. It's only got something like 68 cycles and most of those were probably on it when I bought it.

That said, it's definitely not a split beam or clicker style. It won't stop applying torque until you do. You have to watch the screen/lights and listen for the beep.

That's probably one reason I don't really use it. Nothing wrong with it, but I'm also not a fan. I've thought about trading it in too, but I like having different torque measurements and angle.

I got some of those Ernst racks ealier this year and they are boon to drawer density!

Spring-loaded circlip pliers have zip ties loops loosely squeezing the handles, a tip I think I learned from Bob Heine.
Very nice, how deep does the drawer need to be to have the plier rack with the pliers in it?

I have these plier racks bookmarked so that I can eventually get rid of the zip ties holding my spring loaded pliers.

Just don't know if I like the overall height of it

The height of the rack + your drawer liner can make it close, in some drawers, but for me the interference issue became the height of some pliers. Which I solved with zip ties.

You could always reduce the height of the dividers with an oscillating buzzy cut tool after drinking a six pack and have it look horrible. (Or, if you had a band saw, in a good way.)

Had to go to Advance Auto to drop off a UPS package since they are a drop location and while I was there I was looking at the tools. I know a manager at this location so I got a good discount on these. I always keep extra 14mm around it seems that’s the size I always crack working on Toyota and Subaru stuff. No matter the brand lol. I’m curious if I’ll crack this one. The 8mm because I lack quite a few 8mm in 3/8 drive. I have been really happy with all my DieHard stuff. It’s good for the money. Still waiting on them to get the 3/8 long flex heads back in stock with the comfort handle. Even though the price has went up a bunch over the last month I still want one. If anyone is thinking about the DieHard stuff I’d definitely give it a go it’s nice. They sure do sell lots of it too.

Sometime this week I have to go to Lowes to get someone a socket I lost. I offered them a DieHard but they want Craftsman which is understandable considering every tool this guy owns is modern Craftsman lol. It’s my fault I lost it so I have to do the right thing and replace it which I’m fine with. I don’t know how I lost it though lol. I had taken it off his impact because we needed a Allen bit socket and his hands were covered in oil and I thought I had put it back in it’s slot in his box and I guess I didn’t but wherever it’s at we can’t find it now. I checked all my pants pockets I checked my boxes his box no where to be found. I know while I’m there getting his replacement socket I’ll buy other stuff too lol 😂because that’s just what I do. Plus I did a good job today when the Snap-on toolbox and equipment truck rolled up in the parking lot. I got quoted for a box but no way I can spend $5,000 on a box when the box doesn’t make you money. They offered me $1000 for my box plus a $970 preferred customer discount and a however much amount rebate. I was told interest for someone with no credit like myself starts at 27% I was like no freaking way lol. I love that supersonic blue and bronze trim box I created and had quoted in case I decide to buy it but no way I can do that and still live comfortably. My dealer is like I don’t take US General on trade his wife also a dealer said yeah we do I’ll give you a thousand on trade. I just couldn’t do it and I’m proud of myself for telling myself no. Lol. Don’t expect to see a new box from me on here lol.

Good on you for not letting the dark side take over and "needing" that brand new shiny box . Not sure if you are paying with cash or debt card for your purchases, but would definitely consider using a credit card for your tool purchases only to build credit history. Pay it off every month. I messed up when I was younger and didn't build much of a credit history so when it came time to get a mortgage had to go through embarrassment and hassle of getting family to cosign for me. Think of building credit history as a stepping stone to bigger and better things in terms of building wealth which means you can afford more tools in the long run...

Actually they have 3 different interest rate tiers... Something like 9%, 18% and 27%.

I got approved for $6,600 at 18% with no credit thanks to a bankruptcy about 3 years ago.

But you're right. Don't do it. Tool boxes don't make you money and there are cheaper options (including used boxes) that will hold your tools just the same.

Snap On credit got me awhile back when I thought things were going better for me. I've been wanting a Snap On box for 5+ years. My dealer had a beautiful green KRSC46.

But life always finds a way to make good things in my life short lived. Without getting into the details, the bad news is I owe around $3k to Snap On credit and I no longer have the box. The good news is I don't owe money to anyone else and it's actually helping me to rebuild my credit.

Slowly and steadily adding to my work box. Starrett tap handles. A bit pricey even with some savings via Zoro but I have struck out trying to find any via the interwebs and garage sales. I’m starting to look like a real machinist at work now. 🤣

Those are the best. I have gone thru many "no-name" handles... even a high end ratchet version. My favorite are the Starrett handles that don't ratchet. You can "feel" every thread being cut.

Used tool truck boxes are the way to go imo. Or student discount.

Figure out what the monthly payment for that 5k box would be and stick it in a savings account each month. Then wait for the economy to tank and buy a used box of marketplace for 2.5k...just check it hasn't got outstanding finance on it.

Idk what box they were selling Blake. I've paid 5600 twice for a triple bay krl10xx. A lot of times you're stuck buying a krl722 for 2500 locally. 2k for a beater.

But I'm with you. Take a car payment every month, put it in savings, have a 10k down-payment. Things change, but I financed 10k or so at 3%. Write a check for 10k and pay 300/month on a 20k car.

At a certain point you need a box for efficiency. But waiting until things line up is ideal.

I bought a 68" Epiq not that long after moving to a new dealership as my box was already overpacked and the new shops specialty tools were lacking so I was buying. I did have a good bump in pay from the move.
I got an obscene offer on the box I had bought 28 years or so ago used, my credit is excellent and it was 9% I paid it off in less than 4 mouths.
New kid came on the R&R truck with me and they hooked him, I tried multiple time don't do It, he bought I think a Master series hutch and side cabnet, he no longer works here nor the field as far as I know.
SO picked it up a couple weeks ago.

Idk what box they were selling Blake. I've paid 5600 twice for a triple bay krl10xx. A lot of times you're stuck buying a krl722 for 2500 locally. 2k for a beater.

Over here there’s a constant stream of used boxes in really good condition. Mostly 40” KRAs for $1-2k from kids that have joined and left the trade, quite a lot of 55” KRAs for similar money and a trickle of KRLs for $2-3k. KRLs are much rarer because by the time you buy one, you’re probably staying in the trade. Nothing is selling currently because everyone is worried about their heating bills not buying shiny sh*t.

I see your location is in the UK. Do guys still buy large tool boxes there? Or do they follow the mythical model of employers supplying everything?

I've been eyeing carts as my montazuma is pretty well worn. But most people want a couple hundred less than I can grab a new one for on promo.

We’re firmly in the “technician supplies hand tools” model for car, diesel and heavy equipment shops over here, and if you walk into pretty any commercial shop in the UK, you’ll see at least one snap on box. It’s rare to see the huge boxes, but a 55” master stack with a couple of lockers is fairly common.

It’s fairly common for the shop to supply diagnostic kit, like scanners, and specialist tools for the brands they serve. Outside of automotive, eg industrial, aviation, manufacturing, the employer always supplies.

BEHOLD MY MIGHTY FUNNEL!

Er, I mean, I just bought the be-all and end-all oil funnel for 4 of the 6 cars in the Underground Lair. (All of the German cars, 80's VW & Mercedes, and a modern BMW.) I had been using a $17 cheap imitation and it had sold me on the concept. Just like before that, the Lisle screw-in funnel that works on the old Durango spoiled me, too. The only vehicle that I have to stand there like a putz and hold a funnel with one hand in an awkward location while pouring a 5 quart jug with the hood in the way with the other hand is the danged Econoline.

Some reviewers of the cheap imitation funnel available on Amazon have mentioned the plastic tab breaking off inside the valve cover. On my old German cars, the Mercedes especially, yanking the valve cover to hunt down such a piece of plastic would be child's play. On the modern BMW? Directly above the timing chain. Let's avoid that. So having either lost or inadvertently thrown out the cheap $17 funnel, I decided to just get the funnel with the stainless steel tabs.

CNC machining, knurling, anodized colors and a gasket? Yeesh. Overkill.

Fits a lot more cars than their website or sticker says. If I ever buy that Lamborghini or any other VW W-12 motored car, I'll have to remember not to use this funnel.

"Oooh you are so big. So absolutely huge. Gosh, we're all really impressed down here I can tell you."

Like many things on GJ, it really was too much money and it's awesome.

RE: "overkill"

^ I've communicated with Assenmacher. I distinctly recall coming away from the conversations convinced that they are far more concerned about making a product as good as it can possibly be made (as most of their output is sold to their private-label accounts) and that they are not in the least bit concerned about competing on price.

Just my two cents.

Looks like a nice unit.
