As the weather gets cooler I get more and more willing to do hot work.

I need to build a forge for my blacksmith setup. I don’t have the facilities for a coal forge, so propane is the best option.

I can build the forge itself no problem. I just don’t know much about the burners. Anyone have any recommendations on what to look at?

Google up reil burner

You can made them out of black pipes, reducers, the gas tip I made them out of .025 MiG welding nozzle, they are m6x1.0 threads.
At least it’s changeable in case you wanted to increase the. Size later. Instead of just drilling a small hole.

I bought mine from High Temp Tools. It's been going strong for 6 years now with no issues. I'm currently only running 1 burner but have a 2nd to install whenever I get around to relining my forge.

I went the homemade Reil burner route. Since I went NG, I had to modify the hell out of it, small blower, 3/8 orifice, fun stuff. If I give it too much air, it sounds like a small jet spooling up, and gets great dragon breath.

I did! @dr_clyde I have a two burner propane, a coal forge, induction forge and the latest is a ribbon burner forge which if you need versatility, forge welding temps and lower propane costs this is the forge I would recommend building.
Did you make a build thread?

I just use 2 of the Ron Reil burners I made. Make the ones with the elbow in them and point them straight down. When you are reading build that start talking about vortices you can just stop reading there. When I built mine I tried them at every position and angle imaginable, straight down works best (the elbow is to keep convection air from cooking your burners after they are shut off.) The vortex people claim there is a hot spot with straight down, and there is, right on the floor of your burner, right where you want it!
