I'm new to the board and looking for some help finding any information about the Wayne 378-3SV Air Compressor that came with this house.

The previous owner left the compressor when I moved in 4 years ago. I am moving out in a few months and would like to sell the unit, but I know nothing about compressors and haven't had any luck searching for any information about this compressor. The motor starts when I flip the breaker on, but I don't have any tools or attachments to see if it's functional beyond just powering up.

I'm just looking to get the compressor out of my garage and not get taken for. Any help with specs, value, or suggestions on how/where to sell it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Brian

What HP motor is on it?

You could sell it as is, claim the motor HP, but declare you have no idea of the performance or condition.

The company became Symington-Wayne in the late 50's and Dresser had control of it by the late 60's, so that would indicate the unit is 55 to 65 years old. It was later sold to LeRoi Corp and stopped making compressors around 30 years ago, so parts are likely either unavailable or available only at ridiculous prices.

Given the age, unknown condition, and orphan status, I'd guess you'd be lucky to get $150 for it.

$150 would be gift! These older units were typically well/(overbuilt) and is still around because of that but with that many unknowns I think that gifting that to some young person that would not otherwise come up with a compressor would be a better out come for you. With a warning that he needs to do "some learnin'" to protect you and mostly himself! Remember FB marketplace/Craigs list doesn't necessarily bring out the best in people, and you may then only get $50 and multiple verbal/text beatings +/-. Harry

I pulled the compressor away from the wall and found a few more placards, see attached. It has a 5 HP motor. And appears to have been built in 1968. The tank measures roughly 16" x 36", after some internet sleuthing it looks like those dimensions equate to ~30 gallon tank.

Thanks for the history of Wayne Compressors, that explains why I found very little information about them.

Agreed, FB, CL, and Nextdoor can be challenging to sell on. I'm really just looking to get it out of my garage and getting it to someone who would use it and appreciate it. That gives me an idea, I'll call the local tech school and see if they or any of their students could use it.

The motor alone is worth $200 so I wouldn't give up easily.

As for the Craig's List Facebook hate, just ignore the block heads and move on. I sell all the time on Facebook and if someone make a stupid comment they get ignored. I have had guys make a super low ball offer and I don't even respond. Even after they keep sending me messages.

It is up to you if you want a couple hundred in your pocket or just want it gone.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I've posted it for sale and have received a few inquiries.

Thanks again,
Brian
