I was sure this was going to be the guy who sells vises down by the Jersey shore. This ad here looks a lot like the one I thought it was except the guy in Jersey has restored almost all the vises he's selling.
I can't go to a place like this. I'd end up wearing 30 of these vises on my head after dragging them home. lol

Looks like OCD and most weekends at auctions, estate sales/garage sales. Guessing by the " text " of the listing, they moved on and family is converting to cash ? Guys Ive met that collected like that, nearly never sell anything, just acquire endlessly.

I emailed him and asked what it would take to buy a decent 3 or 4 inch Wilton. He wouldn't answer straight. I think he wants whatever the traffic will bear.

ya usually the guy that puts "make me an offer" and "I know what it's worth" in the same ad. Make me an offer* = one that will hopefully be over the magic astronomical number in my head. I know what it's worth* = An excuse to get bent out of shape for receiving an offer one cent below the aforementioned astronomical number.

Did it take much work to free it up and get rid of at least most of the rust?
I bought a 4 inch Wilton machinist vise from a guy who had it laying in the mud when I arrived.
It was stuck pretty bad and I had to pay $60. It’s all better now,

It was badly rusted shut. I finally managed to free it. The vise showed no evidence of abuse except for the missing horse shoe washer. I fabricated one that fit real good.

I got a "deal" on this 9450 that was buried in a vise graveyard behind this guys shop. I pulled probably five or six broken vises out of the mud. Only after I made the deal and they were loaded in my truck, I suggested he might need a bigger vise or different technique. I was asked to leave lol.

I sent the seller an email yesterday asking about any small vises and never got a reply. I wonder how many pms he's gotten since this thread was posted.
Todays scrap prices he did not pay much if that is the case.He got all of them all for virtually free. He runs a scrap yard. lol

I noticed that ad when I drove through St Louis a couple of weeks ago. I considered making the run off of 70, but it didn't look like the cost-benefit effort would have been good. That was an ad that was hard to ignore though.
